I would love to try kale chips
I saw that some use oil with them, does this work? I would think that the oil would prevent it from getting crispy???
What about the steam that is part of the kayle, do you dehydrate that too?
I wonder if you can process the kale with sprouted kamut>
Where can i find some good recipes with kale snack type thing. It would be convenient to bring in my lunch.
Thank you!

DE-stem the kale, as it's very tough. Break the kale up into smaller pieces, drizzel a LITTLE EVOO on them, crunch with hands with sea salt or whatever flavoring and them spread on mesh sheets to dehydrate. They DO get very crunchy. If not crunchy enough, stick 'em back in the dehydrator a continue. I LOVE them! Can't eat enough of 'em!!!

I just made a HUGE batch of kale chips using a recipe I found on giveittomeraw.com. They were awesome. I took some to work and everyone who tried them loved them. Just go to the recipe link and it is the second recipe listed. Olive oil makes kale a beautiful dark glossy green once dehydrated. These were easy and inexpensive to make. Not to mention the fact that kale right of there with spinach as far as nutient density.

EVOO - Extra Virgini Olive Oil
nope, just add a DRIZZLE of evoo and SOME sea salt. I taste as I go. Good stuff.
Yeah, I checked that web site and can't locate any recipes...
Okay, I did find the link, but can't find the recipe. But saw about adding Nutritional Yeast. That would give them a cheezy flavor...interesting

YES! I add just a drizzle of EVVO, not much and then crunch 'em and yep, they do get crispy. I left mine out and the humdity got to 'em so I turned on the dehydrator again and they crisped (trying saying THAT word! :D ) right up!!!
I am so loving these!

Kale chips are my fav snack lately! I havn't tried them with oil yet.. must do that version next! Thanks!! :D
I don't de-stem mine because I find they make good handles! When I eat them I always say mmmm roasted newt! and hold it up by the stem and twirl it a bit... I think you would have to try it and have watched Spirited Away to understand why though lol.

Just got mine out of the dehydrator and they are almost gone. Absolutely awesome way to eat kale. I used a bit too much salt and will back off a bit next time. They got very crispy with the olive oil. I'm going to try spinach too although I eat spinach every day in my green smoothie. More leafy greens is always better right??!

For anyone interested in the recipe that unbent was referring to at welikeitraw, I believe I did find it. Welikeitraw gave a link to this blog for the recipe: http://rawketscience.blogspot.com/2008/07/kale-chips.html
I haven't tried this particular recipe, but it sounds like a good variation.
I LOVE kale chips.
Blessings and peace,

Yes, they are crunchy even when covered in oil.
Try spinach chips, too. Same process. They are delicious!

I have never warmed to eating raw spinach, but as spinach chips, I am enjoying them.
Good idea to try the spring mix. Let me know how it goes!

So I just got the spinach and swiss chard out of the dehydrator. Still used too much salt. Must cut back next time. And I used too much EVOO this time too. Too greasy but good taste.
Does anyone know how many nutrients (approx) are lost in the dehydrator process? Is it significant??
I think I liked the kale best. It is a sturdier leaf and holds up better to the drying. The spinach especially got quite flaky.

are the dehydrated kale chips sturdy enough to use with a dip?
like chip and dip?
or are they brittle?
thanks.

Brittle ... thinner than paper. I just use EVOO and salt on mine. They are so yummy, I don't miss the dip. This from a flavor junky, too.
