View Full Version : Why NOT to eat fruit, according to the average American

So, every day when I go to the local language school for class, we have a 15-minute break in the middle. I always have a bag of fruit or something like that with me.

Yesterday, a friend from class says to me: "I can't eat fruit. I gives me the sh**s." <--- Use your imagination here, an expletive meaning -- must go to the bathroom to poo!

Now, maybe I'm missing something -- but don't we WANT to go to the bathroom? I went to the market with the same girl, the same farmers' market I have been going to every day for my fresh food for weeks. I had NO idea until I went there with her that there is also a large traditional grocery store in the basement. Ha! She had to go there to get her fiber cereal.

If anyone's wondering -- I did not bother to explain that she's using some bunk logic. I just shrugged my shoulders and kept on eating my fruit (and didn't comment when we went to the store, but I couldn't help but laugh). :)

My poor grandma was the same way - whenever she ate fruit it gave her the "runs"....She was also very unhealthy and I suspect pretty toxic....Although I have heard that some people cannot tolerate or digest fructose so maybe that was the case.....

Yep, you'd be surprised at how many people say that...."I can't eat fruit in the morning" "don't eat fruit..it will give you the runs". "I don't like fruit, it makes you use the bathroom", etc.

I thank God for being in the KNOW...about what the body needs for proper digestion, etc and understanding its functioning......

that is so funny because just this morning I gave my mom something to taste that I made with apples and raisins, and she said "oh no,it will give me the runs",LOL,like from just a taste,HA
I am loving all the fruit I have been eating since going Raw!!!

So funny -- well, fruit is naturally very cleansing. I'm just so far away from the thought of avoiding cleansing. I love it. Better out than in!

But people whose diet is not healthy do not think of it as cleansing. It's "the runs" or my friend's less pleasant phrase!

This was good for a laugh and I needed it today. She didn't have a real graceful answer did she. I guess she just told it like it was. :D I love fruit and sometimes it does me make me poop. I did read in the ph Miracle not to eat fruit because it's acid but my body loves fruit and all it's benefits. I just kind of ignore all of that stuff. :)

by "runs" does she mean she has to use the bathroom more than a couple times a week?
oh, the excuses of the average american! lol

this is too funny. my dad's like that. he doesn't eat any fruit or veggies (unless you call mashed potatoes with extra butter and gravy a veggie ). He complains about "the sh--s" all the time when he tries to eat something healthy like corn on the cob smothered in butter and salt.

Now, if they would only realize that their bodies would normalize at some point. I have an 8 yo ds that has been known to eat 10-20 apples a day when they are fresh picked, with no ill effects.

Ha! I guess the apple sometimes just falls where it falls... because you and your kids are eating nothing like your dad! Whew -- what a sigh of relief. 10-20 apples! Your ds must be very well adjusted!! Back in "the day", I remember having a horrible time when I picked too much fruit from a tree AND had a bunch of watermelon. LOL, I'll never forget that day, GEEZ!

I'm glad I can laugh at that now!

When people tell me that, I always tell that means they need to eat MORE fruit. I say that's a sign your not eating enough fiber if you get "the runs" that easily.

Good reply. People don't know fiber can work both ways. It eventually normalizes your system. It cleans out the bad cells, etc. I know, because I had chronic diarrhea for six months and when I added more fiber on a Drs. advice it improved. I still have a little trouble even on a raw diet, but nothing like before I went raw.

i always thought fruit was just 'a sweet thing to eat' with no real value to my diet when i was SAD. i seldom, if ever ate fruit except christmas oranges.

my friend (who was super into being vegan) told me that fruit was bad as it would only promote candida in my body.

now i am thrilled to be eating so much fruit. i'm almost a fruititarian.

Goodness, how would your super vegan friend avoid fruit?! What a drag. What's left? Just greens and nuts? Or was she a "junk food" vegan?

Before I went raw, I remember thinking that fruit wasn't substantial enough to live on, now I eat mostly fruit!
