View Full Version : feeling tired

I have been eating raw for about 6 weeks and started to feel tired and lathargic. When I first started, I was feeling great. Everyone keeps talking about the spurts of energy you get from going raw and I have yet to feel that. I started by following the first week plans in Alissa's book, then when on and tried different things I wanted to try and some of fav things. Today I took a long nap for about 2 hours after lunch. Any suggestions? My husband says that I am not getting enough nutrients on this diet and that I need to go back to the way I was eating before before I get worse.

Is your husband right? Have you been eating enough?
Go get your bloodwork done if you are concerned. Remember though, your body heals and grows while you are sleeping. It is possible that your body is very busy during your naps clearing out toxins that have accumulated.
You can enter your usual daily foods into fitday.com if that will make you feel better. When I first started, I was still a little worried about protein until I did this and found out the nutritional info of my foods.
Are you getting enough sleep at night? Drinking enough water? Even 2% dehydration can cause fatigue.
When I get tired like this , I try to take a little nap (always little with 3 kids around)--or if I just can't..there's always a cocoa/almond butter/honey/maca shake=)>

I think following the thread Thick has pointed out is great advice, but I honest to goodness believe you're experiencing detoxification symptoms.
Oftentimes, even when everything is going along swimmingly well eating 100% raw or close to it, bam out of the blue you feel (or look like) a truck ran over you. I have experienced this intermittingly throughout my year long raw journey. It sometimes takes time to heal and it also takes time to get into a rhythm of figuring out what foods your body thrives on. I am currently experiencing a lovely rash on my face. It's detox and I'm waiting it out and drinking plenty of cucumber juice which seems to be helping. I've experienced bouts of feeling very lethargic and tired when I was healing something profound in my body.
So it could be that you're not eating enough, perhaps eating something your body is not digging right now or it could be that everything is in perfect order and you're simply healing and releasing more stuff (or toxins) that your body no longer requires. It's possibly showing up as fatigue and your body is telling you to rest while it heals! If it were me, I would sleep and keep eating raw!! :) Just my opinion.

I had a similar situation about four weeks in and got very frustrated. I started taking B12 and maca and making sure I'm drinking 8-10 cups of water a day.
That seems to have helped me... maybe it will help you!

Thank You all for the responses. I did recently get bloodwork done and at my b12 and vit D so I am supplementing and I got a b12 shot a few days ago to jumpstart. Also, I am taking Dr.Mercola's whole food supplement for now. I do drink lots of water and I eat whenever I am hungry but I think I better stop eating after 8 pm. Usually I start off the morning (10 am during the summer) with a green smoothie with hemp protein, flax seeds and t. of maca, or a fruit smoothie with green food. Thick-I will try visiting fitday and definitely try the maca shake. I notice when I get up and go for a walk even when I get signs of tiredness, I tend to feel better afterward, It is just hard when all you want to do is sleep during the day. I am also feeling irritable and some mood swings. I really believe in eating raw so I am going to continue but I just hope that things better before I go back to work from the summer as I am a teacher and will need all the energy I need. The good news: I have lost 15 lbs. since I started.
