I really like dates and raisins by themselves but not a big fan of the flavor when mixed in with things. New to raw and experimenting with recipes/food, anyone have any suggestions on what I can substitute as so many recipes use dates for not only sweetness but consistency also?
I have looked at previous threads and comments on this topic and am preferably looking for something that is not a dried fruit.
Thanks!

Agave is a sweetener. I am by no stretch of the imagination a chef but I think to keep the same consistency you'd need to stick w/ other dried fruits.
It would also help to know exactly what you are wanting to make. I know some people use dates in nut mylks and I think agave would substitute just fine.
I use dates w/ almonds for crusts and "donut holes" and I think you'd need to use other dried fruit to keep the consistency (like dried pineapple or something else sort of sticky). Best wishes!

Thanks for the info. I was using dates to makes "sweets" like tootsie rawls, caramel sauce, etc. I know for pie crusts and similar things that dates will be great, but looking for something else to use when making treats.

Hmmm......I've never made those and I don't know what they are so I don't have any ideas for you. Best of luck.

...try dried apricots. they go very well in pie crusts and the like. as far as dates go in general, there are many different types to try...many different flavors of dates. (dunno what type/s you've used so far)
best of luck! :)
