Hello, my name's Jimmy, I'm from Texas, i now live in southern Missouri. I used to be a vegitarian back when I was 16-18, then after peerpressure (my new friends thought I was a weirdo because I was a vegitarian) I started to eat meat, burgers, steak, you know.
I'm 23 now, going to 24 I'm sooo outta shape, I wiegh 250-260 at 5' 10", my back and joints hurt, I have asthma, I'm very sluggish and it seems like I can never get enough sleep. Do to my being outta shape and stuff, I'm suffering emotionally from being single, I'm too fat for any woman to find me attractive, I've been rejected so much by women I've become sorta jaded towards them. I don't really blame them for not wanting to be with a fat outta shape guy though, I mean I would sorta feel the same way if the shoe was on the other foot.
Back when I was a vegitarian I used to be in tip top shape, full of energy and hardly ever got sick and I did'nt have asthma!
I'm going to try and go back to being non-carnivorous, but instead of just being vegitarian, I'm going to go a step further and become a raw vegan. I hope to learn a lot and become healthier and happier in life with this life change.
Just to let you guys know, I'm a Christian Fudamentalist, that means (to me at least), that I believe in the fundamentals of what Yeshua (Jesus's original hebrew name)taught, to love each other with the same amount of love we have for ourselves, that violence does'nt make things better, but love and forgiveness does. Those are the fundamentals of my religion, I'm well versed in the more complex things though, after all I am a preacher's kid. Being a Christian is actually what first got me into this lifestyle though. In the Bible it says that God made man vegitarian (raw vegan actually), then later on 9after the flood), man started to eat meat, he started to live a shorter life after than. So as a teen I thought to myself, "Why don't I just try and become a vegitarian, since that's how God originally designed us.". So I beame one, healthiest three years of my life. I'm not too keen on many more verses other than what's in Genesis about veganism though. And don't worry folks, I'm a rather tolerant guy, I won't shove my beliefs down anyones throat. My job is not to make you believe as I do, all I can do is live my beliefs in hopes that you will see my testimony, you make a descision on what you believe in, if you choose to believe in anything or nothing at all.
Well I'm going to try and make sort of a video diary of my progress, I hope to lose about 100 pounds.

Hope I can be a good helpful member of this community :)

Welcome Jimmy! I wish you the best of rawesome health:D! I am also originally from Texas, but now I make my home in Tennessee. My husband is currently in Missouri getting processed out of the Army due to injuries sustained in basic. (kinda sounds like the Kevin Bacon game, doesn't it?)

I am not Christian, but like you, I am respectful of others' truths. I have often wondered the same thing you have in relation to Christianity, in respect to as why don't more preach vegetarianism for the very passages you are aware of. I think the Seventh Day Adventists are about the only group I know of that does. I've always thought that odd, myself.

Dr. Gabriel Cousens is an Essene - a Judaic religion that preaches raw veganism. Interesting texts on this can be found on the internet if you enjoy research;). I personally do enjoy comparative research especially in the area of the Middle and Far East and their beliefs on specific foods and why they are excluded.

Raw foods are a wonderful way to go and a beautiful journey - you will definitely lose the weight and feel the best you ever have in your life!

Start up that blog pardner! We're all dying to hear and see about it! :)

Welcome Jimmy!
I'm glad you are here! This raw foods journey has been, for me, a journey to self love and self discovery. Before I was raw I didn't take care of myself and didn't love myself. Now i have lost weight and care for myself. I have so much more love to offer the people around me and the world! I wish you all the best on your journey!

I have heard of the Essene Gospels, My only reference to it though is what I read in the Raw Foods Bible. I believe the churches here in America are way too Americanized and that something must be done to improve the quality of life in Christians as well as everyone else. I have a friend that believes in eating meat, every time I've told him about being a vegan he acts like I'm some sorta PETA supporter of something lol. I believe in treating animals with respect, but I'm not as hateful as some of the PETA people are, there are extremists in every group, mostly because that person doesn't follow the actual beliefs of said group.
I also have a friend who eats rare steaks, burgers and any other red meat rare. He's had a serious bout with colon cancer ever since his teens (he started eating rare redmeat when he was a kid), he's now about 26 or 27 and he has had that cancer removed several times, he also suffers from the same asthma problems I suffer from, but his are much worse. When I start loosing wieght I may go back down to Texas and talk to him about changing his eating habits, you know show myself as an example.

Shashibala, your quote from Ghandi is similar to this quote from the Bible:

Proverbs 12:10
"The righteous one is caring for the soul of his domestic animal, but the mercies of the wicked ones are cruel."

There are many more verses in the Bible that talk about treating animals with love and kindness. I think everyone who eats meat needs to go to the slaughter house to see how the animals are treated, I believe it would change peoples hearts and minds.
