I know you can eat raw anywhere. But where would you go for a special raw food vacation? NYC & LA seem obvious - any other places?

So. Cal. cause I grew up in Coronado and would love to go back and show off my bikini. I could never wear one when I lived there because I was too fat. I could visit old friends and turn them on to RAW!!

I'm in China now and it is pretty tough to be raw here, plus pollution in the cities if awful.
I'd really like to go back to Greece as a raw foodist and eat all of their figs and watermelons and grapes.

I was in Greece a few years ago during the first two weeks of August, I was eating a vegan diet, and I had my fill of tomatoes and cucumbers with evoo YUM!
I'm headed to NY, lots of great restaurants there. I would think that Seattle would be a great place to go. They have that market (Pikes?) I bet there are plenty of veggies there.

indonesia would be interesting.... i have a good friend who is 100% raw and goes there often to eat durian and other amazing tropical fruits. he says the coconuts are fabulous as well.
any place tropical would be heaven for a raw foodist and you havent lived till you have had a REALLY good avacado picked off a tree!
the difference between them and the ones from the grocery store is night and day.
the first time i had a REALLY fresh avacado, off the tree...still warm from the sun......spritzed with a lemon i picked off another tree nearby.....
i thought i had died and gone to heaven. all i can say is YUMMMMMMM!!!!!

Costa Rica....my brother is moving there with his CR wife...he says fruit bearing trees are Everywhere!
....but I'm sure that's the case most of the time anywhere in the tropics.

Arizona is huge into health. When I went there a few years ago I had just went raw and had a ton of options there.

My choice would be Costa Rica. There is fruit growing everywhere, it's the only place in the world with a Peace University (whereas we have a War College), and I've always wanted to be in a place where monkeys live in the trees.
Cheers,

We're going to the Panamanian mountains next month... fruit bearing trees are everywhere on the property we're staying on. There's also a health food store at a near by town...
We requested an electric juicer in the kitchen of our room!!
I'm thinking it'll be easy there! Plus I have been drying tons of fruit leathers , apple 'chips' and so on to take on the trip.
I'm worried about being in Panama City though... I'll have my blender... hopefully there's a farmers market some where close!

Last October I spent three weeks in Cambodia and another three days in Thailand.
We went there to primiarly visit Ankgor Wat, which is an amazing ruins to see.
But besides that, over there in the tropics of Cambodia and Thailand, there are so many fruits and veggies!! A raw foodist could go nuts. Cambodia is very third world, too, so consequently, there is not much processed food at all. It is very cheap (for Americans). Almost every single restraurant you go to has a huge list of pure smoothies!! It's awesome! Every market you go to has amazing fruits, durian, of course. Dragon fruit. You could just wander around for hours taking in all the different kinds of fruit and veggies.
In fact, I think that's mostly all they eat. I remember walking by a few garbage dumps, and the waste is 90% fruit peelings and skins, etc. People just don't eat processes foods yet. (There is a garbage dump right in the middle of the city.)
I remember sitting in several garden restaurants, and fruit is just hanging off the trees right in front of us, mango trees, etc.
Anyway......a raw foodist could go crazy there!

oooh, I LOVE Panama! We've went three times last year because we have fallen in love with it. You'll have an amazing trip! Are you going to Boquete? We spent the last part of our honeymoon at Los Quetzales ecolodge, near Boquette. Simply magical!
Sorry, got distracted...
now to answer the question of the thread, where would I go for a raw vacation:
If I specifically wanted to focus around raw, connecting to myself and the land, I would head to Gabriel Cousens' Tree of Life in Arizona. http://www.treeoflife.nu/
I've wanted to go there for years, and someday I might make it over that way. It is a little pricey for some of programs I'd want to do, but I think it would be highly beneficial.

costa rica...montezuma el sano banano/ yling ylang resort (sp) has an entire raw foods menu, and is set up the beach..you have to walk to it. they have a vegan sister hotel in town , cheaper but not as nice.

I thought only Mexicans can eat raw there because the water/fruit/veg makes tourists sick. Montezuma's revenge?

Thailand, but I'm a little biased, of course:rolleyes:
My 2nd choice, somewhere in the Central American region.

It's lot cheaper to do all that while staying in Thailand!! - just thought you'd like to know that. The best mangoes I've ever tasted though, were in Cebu, Philippines, not a good place to stay long term due to safety issues etc. My three cents::D.
