Maca....I just got some and I'm not sure how much to use. I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago and have been on Premarin for the last 4, after trying to do the hot flashes naturally and getting osteoporosis, not to mention being totally miserable. I had what they call surgical menopause, and because I was thin too it was severe...hormones are stored in the fat, and I didn't have any storage, anyway, I am thinking I'd like to get off the Premarin, even against my doctors advice, and was hoping the maca would help, but I'm not sure how to use it. Any help there.
Green Powders....and help with drinking this. I can do most things when they don't taste good especially when I know it's good for me, but this one is hard, Hemp Protein, and Oil....same thing. Would appreciate any help or ideas on using these. I added the hemp protein to my green smoothie one day and YUCK. Just want to use it up.
Green Smoothies. I am drinking about 4 quarts a day....holy cow...no wonder I can't eat much else. I've been trying to do like Victoria says in Green for Life and eat 2 pounds of greens a day, and that's what it comes too...I use the 2 cups of water, some fruit, dried coconut, chia seeds, and now I guess I can add the Maca. But I can hardly eat anything else the rest of the day. I am using 2 bags of Spinach a day...almost....and not always. I add some Bok Choy, and if I'm lucky Beet Greens, I can't find much else here...no kale. Anyway is this a lot or what?
Thanks...:)

There's a recipe for Super Candy on here somewhere...do a search...it has maca and it's DELISH. I make it with carob b/c cacao gives me panic attacks. or you can just add a teaspoon a day to your smoothies.
can't help out with green powder...i just drink it and hold my nose...and the hemp oil, man, that stuff is disgusting!
PS Make sure to mix up your greens...you may start experiencing gout symptoms by eating that much spinach. You'll get a bad pain near your ankle...and that's a sign to really cut down. Try cilantro or parsley in your green smoothies. Sometimes I do carrot tops too, if you can find some carrots with the greens still on. Good luck to you!

Thank you Raene....LOL....you made me laugh about the Hemp, I agree, it's gross, I guess I'll have to hold my nose too. The first time I drank it I added it to one of my smoothies and it was all I could do to get it down, disgusting, the ads make it sound so good.
Oh oh, gout, yikes, thanks for the telling me that. I have seen carrot tops, but I've never eaten them before. I'll make sure to get them. Fresh Parsley, that seems so strong? No? do you use just a touch or a bunch or? I love Cilantro and here we have Recao too, which is very similar. And all kinds of Chinese cabbage...you'd think we were in China, there are several variety's...besides the Bok Choy...can't find chard, or kale...:( thank you again...:)

Kale and chard in smoothies makes me really gassy, so in my opinion you're not missing much, lol!
I use about half a bunch of parsley and 2 or 3 bananas. Same with cilantro. I love cilantro too! It's amazing.

All of those can taste better in a smoothie with cacao powder and/or fruit powder. If using just the green powder alone in a smoothie, orange juice alone or with bananas works well. That's what I've done with Vitamineral Green, which is one of the strongest tasting powders. Since I've discovered Camu Powder, I use that the most. You can also make green soups with various greens & green powders.

instead of hemp powder/oil, have you tried hemp seeds? i grind them in my blender with a little water before i add the rest of the smoothie ingredients.
i especially like hemp seeds with a banana and cacoa!

Raene, those words about gas made me feel better about not being able to get it here and THEN I went to the store and guess what, "they had KALE" my eyes almost popped out, so yeah, I had to get some, I'll let you know how it goes, I also got some parsley thanks, I'll add that to my green drinks...:)
GilmoreGirl, I was thinking of that combo too...well the orange and the green stuff, the cocoa sounds interesting. I was afraid it would ruin the whole drink, but I'll try it, I've got to find something I can use it in...:)
Hibisanpo, Yes, I do have the seeds, I've been sprinkling them over my salads, your drink sounds good too...I'll try it, thanks :)
I'm going to try veganforlife's kale chips...:) Appreciate you all, thanks!

I love hemp seeds. I do use when I remember hemp seed oil on salad. It is super pricey however.

GilmoreGirl, that was great, thank you, I can definitely stomach that one. I only put in 1 T of the greens, but next time I'll add the 2. It's the cocoa that does the trick, thanks again, now I know I can drink that stuff daily!! :D
Oh and I added a t of Maca too it as well and it was great....a big thank you!!
Thanks Carol, I do have the oil, but yuck, I can eat the seeds, but won't be using the protein or the oil anymore...:)

Emerald Kale Salad
2 heads kale
1/4 cup olive oil
3 T. sesame oil
1/4 cup nama shoyu, soy sauce or tamari
3 cloves garlic, minced (I love garlic so I use 10 cloves!)
1/4 cup sesame seeds
Wash kale and break into bite size pieces. Place kale pieces into sealable container with both oils. Shake container HARD to bruise kale. Add tamari, garlic and sesame seeds. Shake a bit more and eat.
This is a very addicting salad. I actually make a triple recipe and eat it all by myself over a three day period (til it would go bad).
Enjoy!
p.s. I use the curly kale. It is tough, but that makes it hardy and able to withstand days in marinade. It is very easy to chew once marinated.

Linda7276, I'm glad it worked for you. :) Cacao powder was the only way I could consume maca back when I used it in powder form. I also used goji berries, but was never a fan of them on their own. It's interesting how things you don't like much taste good in combination with others.

I made a protein drink mix based on the Vega brand. I used:
pea protein
hemp protein
brown rice protein (might not be 100% raw)
raw cacao powder
maca root
goji berries
superseed powder (Life Time brand? Not sure, but purchased from Sprout's)
dash of cayenne pepper
I make a smoothie with that adding:
acai frozen concentrate
blueberries
bananas
oj
handful of spinach
Very tasty and the raw cacao curbs my appetite. You could easily add green powder to that mix and not taste it. I've used Healthforce Nutritional Vitamineral Green powder with success.
If you can't stomach the hemp oil, you could use it as a moisturizer.

Walnutty, thank you, that sounds amazing :D and like something you'd get at a very nice sushi restaurant, I'll definitely try it, I have everything but the sesame seeds. I love garlic too!! And Sesame oil..YUM.
As I said above I found Kale, but didn't know it was the flowering kind when I bought it, didn't even know such a thing existed, I was just happy to see Kale, do you know if I can use it the same way?

I'm going to try it today with a grapefruit and some stevia...along with the cocoa and the maca...Yeah it is funny how great that worked out, the cocoa is overpowering in a wonderful way...love it! Thanks again GilmoreGirl :D

dakinimind, thank you, you guys are all amazing, I really appreciate your help. I'll have to find some of these ingredients at online shops, because we don't have a lot of health food stores here. I have some of them, but not all. It sounds nutrient packed, like a great way to start the day.
Hemp oil as a moisturizer, good idea, does it go into the skin, or leave an oily residue, guess I could do a test...thanks again, very much appreciated!!:D

the smoothie i often make prior to lifting weights or doing a significant amount of cardio is as follows:
large handful of greens (spinach for less of a 'greeny' taste...but i like kale too)
half a banana
1 cup fozen fruit (i use berries and peaches)
1-3 tsp vitamineral green
2 heaping Tbl Living Harvest vanilla spice hemp protein powder
i usually add a little agave and sometimes throw in a Tbl of cacao nibs, flax seeds or hemp oil. the protein powder is definitely a questionable item as it contains organic whole can sugar in small amounts. it also contains organic cinnamon, maca, and madagascar vanilla bean. BUT, it is also the most delicious smoothie i have ever tasted...with or without greens.
my energy is through the roof and the powder contains 9 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber/serv. i work out a lot and was not maintaining my desired muscle mass without supplementation. i was not enjoying my hemp smoothies before this powder. perhaps it is a good transtitional item, though i eat 100% raw other than this. lol, 99.9673% raw? whatever :). best of luck to you!

Good point about muscle mass. So you're getting your greens and protein in the same drink, sounds power packed full of nutrition!! I wonder if I could add cinnamon, and vanilla to my regular flavored Hemp protein, that has to improve it too...of course, neither are organic, but...:)
My green smoothies are filling me up so much that I can barely eat anything else. I think I might need to simplify them and reduce the amounts too. I don't see how we get a pound of greens into a 32 ounce drink like Victoria in Green for Life recommends, mine are bigger than that. More like double, no wonder I can't eat anything else.
Sorry got off on a tangent there...haha....thank you for the recipe, sounds wonderful, I'll give it a whirl...you guys are just great!! :D
