plan...that raw is even better?

Everyone who knows me personally saw my weight loss sucess following low-carb. Because of this, they seem convinced that that's what they should be doing as well..so I have had a couple ask me about the protein-only fast I did for 3 days to get my weight down a little more. (before I went completely raw) Well, when they ask for this, I do give them what I did, but at the same time, I let them in on the raw food lifestyle and how you don't have to worry about counting carbs, calories, fat, protein, sugar, etc etc. And I let them know that going raw was and is the only thing that has helped me stay out of the 120's and get me to my first goal. And it's a no brainer! One of them said to me 'I could never do that'. And I just e mailed another and recommended raw food but not sure the response I will get from her just yet since she asked for my protein-only thing I did as well.

So how do I convince them that raw food is even healthier and better? The way they look at it - 64 lbs lost on low carb and only 7 lbs lost on raw food, so in their mind, they are thinking 'low carb is better'. But I know otherwise now.

Low carb made me food obsessed. Raw food made me health obsessed. (I don't know that that statement would convince them any)

These are people that need to see results to believe it is healthy and really works.

That's exactly it! The health benefits are ENORMOUS on raw, and awful on Atkins. Alissa's book has a ton of good info at the beginning on this.

Hi. I just happened to see your post, and felt inclined to respond. Your story is very impressive, and similar to mine, although I did not partake in Atkins. (I followed ~and often still follow~ a low glygemic, or low candida diet with lots of exercise and water. At times that was high protein, but not as high as Atkins.)

I thought I would share a couple of things, I too lost a significant amount of weight on non raw eating plans before I learned of raw. Raw however, brought me something else, not just weightloss...it brought me health. You mentioned this in an indirect way when you said raw has made you "health obsessed". Perhaps you meant that it turned your focus from weightloss, to health and wellbeing?

When I discovered high raw, I did become "obsessed" to some extent, as all newbies are zelous, aren't they. However, since that time, and it has been a little over 2 years of high raw +-80 %, things have become much less intense. I just eat this way naturally. I am not obsessive about being perfectly 100%, and I think that has been why I have not thrown in the towel, or given up.

I think that the best way to see how eating a particular way has helped you, is to look at physiological changes. One's skin, ones innards, one's mental clarity, etc. As we strengthen our constitutions, (and we are what we eat) our "dIS-eases" will fade into the background. I don't assume that my plan will work for everyone, but it certainly plays a part in my own health. That is what I share with others. Perhaps that perspective is what you are trying to express to others?

Overall, your message of health and wellbeing will speak for itself. And, since it is working for you, you are lucky in that you no longer have to convince yourself of success. (Reading the journals here, you can see that there are quite a few who struggle.) For you, it is happening right now...! ISn't that wonderful?

For those in your life who need proof, continue to share with them your daily progress, and encourage them to drop in here, and read others experiences. They will no doubt go away "without a doubt" that Raw works.

Continued sucess!

Cassy :) :)

People pay me for what I do. They see how I look. I tell them how to achieve this look, energy, health. They STILL don't do it! So, how to convince them? Just live your life and do what you do and eventually, folk who REALLY want health will do what you do.

The answer is: don't try to teach pigs to sing; it'll irritate the pig and frustrate you.

Hi LivenRaw,

Here is a good website to send your friends:

http://www.atkinsdietalert.org/

The website is by Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). These are regular MD's, not raw foodist trying to convince people. They explain what is wrong with high protein diets:

- Personal stories
- Lawsuit updates
- Health advisories
....Colon Cancer
....Heart disease
....Impared Kidney function
....Complications of diabetes
....Osteoporosis
....Constipation 68%
....Headache 60%
....Bad breath 38%
....Muscle cramps 35%
....Diarrhea 23%
....General weakness 25%

It's not worth the weight loss to have your friends have to deal with the above.

I personally tried a "vegetarian low-carb" diet to get my post-op weigt off , which meant nuts , tofu, salad w/ oil and rice vinegar ,DIET COKE* ,and edamame beans and low carb candy - I ate WAY too many nuts , felt yucky!!!!! I also lost only a little bit of weight ,had NO energy ,then gained not only all the weight back but became heavier than when I started !!!!! I was WAY too fat sensitive too eat all that junk ,and the diet is CRAWLING with toxins , alas , you CANT just "convince" them that they are thinking the wrong way -sometimes, you have to LET them follow their own advice , and if they feel great and it works ,fine! But I doubt that will happen ,and if it doesnt you will be there with the same info you had earlier :)!

*I lived off these ,and drank 12 or more a day!I FELT SO YUCKY!!!

LIvenraw, I think you already know everything you need to tell people why you choose raw. I've done the low carb diets too, and even though they are fast weight loss plans, I just never felt healthy eating that way. Hormones in meats, fat, nitrites, every bite I took I knew I would have to pay for later. With raw, there is no sense of harming yourself. The other major difference is on a low carb diet, or any diet, you count the days until you can stop. On raw, you count the days, but only because you want a history of raw, the long term benefits of raw. And... it is so easy to love raw, that once you've done it, even if you go back to cooked for while, there is a sense of, "I'll always have raw." (I haven't had cooked yet since starting, but I already know that once I lose the weight I'll never have to worry about being obese again, cooked if it happens will be the exception. Raw is just too great a way to live). Who says that about low carbs.
