Hey everyone, I'm doing an extended fast on juice, water and with the occassional day of dry-fasting tossed in for good measure. I figured I'd start a new thread, rather than posting in the juice feasting thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=41394) (since that isn't what I'm doing)... and see if there is anyone else doing any fasting who would like to join me and we can support each other!

So... here's what I'm doing (http://aleeshasrawlife.blogspot.com/2008/07/fasting-goal.html) and here is the commitment (http://aleeshasrawlife.blogspot.com/2008/07/commitment-to-my-self.html) I made to my Self - and here is the log of my measurements (http://aleeshasrawlife.blogspot.com/2008/07/measurements-for-this-13-20-week-fast.html) during this fast.

I'd like to restate my commitment here... in this post though:

The commitment I make to myself every time I fast is:

I will not break this fast on a bad day.
I have to be on a good day to break it.

Another commitment I am adding for this fast:

I will not break this fast today.
I can break it the day after tomorrow, but not today.

This way... I won't break the fast on a whim... I will only break the fast after pondering it for a few days.

These are the promises I make to my Self for my fast.

Aleesha

So... today is a day of gentle detoxing. So gentle I almost can't even call it detoxing but that may change as the day progresses. Actually it probably WILL change as the day progresses.

So... anyone fasting?

I was just doing a search on fasting and found this little nugget (http://www.freedomyou.com/fasting_book/Physical%20Reactions%20to%20Fasting.htm) of info on hunger. Perhaps I need to further strain my juices cause I find myself often hungry in the evenings when I fast. Although honestly, they don't 'seem' pulpy... but perhaps if I strain them, I'll discover they are???

Hunger

Most are surprised by the disappearance of hunger once the border is crossed into fasting’s land of silence. After a day or two, hunger’s voice will be rare indeed. Craving can continue on for some days longer, and then at last stillness, leaving the deep groans of the soul. Once the body quiets, the richer connection with our spiritual hunger can be felt. There is nothing like it! Wonderful freedom comes when flesh is forced into silence, sharpening perception of the greatest sound of all; God’s still small voice.

The odd time hunger can flare up, more often in a juice fast than water. This could be due to excessive pulp in the juice, reawakening digestion. If hunger persists, try straining your juice or adding some prune juice to clean out the digestive tract.

or maybe I'll just add in a few days of water fasting and see if I get a different experience... cause there's no pulp in water LOL

Hi Aleesha,

I am on day 2 of juice fasting. Can't say how long I will go but sure would love some support. I'd love to join you.

Congrats on day 2 Debbie... I'm on a few days ahead of you. I started on Saturday... but I'm counting weeks instead of days this time around... so tomorrow is my last day of week one.

What's your favourite juice right now? Mine is definitely pineapple but today I got 3 cantelopes, 2 huge watermelons and some nectarines. I'm going to try a few different juices. I definitely juice way more fruits than veggies. I seldom have veggies but I do add spirulina and wheatgrass to my pineapple so I'm getting my greens. :P

Are you taking any supplements?

I'll probably be checkin' in... my family and I did a family fast for some things we want for the family (spritual).... That was just a plan fast from everything (water included) for a period of time each day... I think I'm switching over to do some MC-ing... Gotta feeling I'll be doing a combo of MC, water, teas and maybe herbs for the month of August...not sure how long though...fasting requires a sacrifice of muscle building (which I'm also working on)...I'll just see where it goes and check in with you guys from time to time...

ah sounds like a great way to fast... as a family. that's very cool.

i like the flexibility of a "changing it up" fast... i can see you do as well. i'm thinking of doing some days of just lemon or lime juice and water. kinda like m/c but different LOL

you know you are always welcome lavendarJ... so stop in and post whenever you get a hankerin'

Hi Aleesha,

My favorite juice is kale, spinach, romaine, parsley, celery and cucumber. I have a place called liquiteria where they use the norwalk press. So, I've been buying some juices there. They are quite expensive though, $8.00 per juice, so I can't go too often. They also have one called the grasshopper which is pineapple, pear, apple, wheatgrass and mint. Yum!!!
Normally, I take chlorella, the green powder (both from Alissa) probiotics, digestive enzymes and B-12 from Brian Clement at Hippocrates, and systemic enzymes from Fred Bisci. I'm not sure I should take these while I'm fasting, but I have been. Do you take supplements while you are fasting? What do you take while you are not fasting? Day 3. Woohoo. Feeling good this morning!!!!!

Morning-

Haven't had anything yet.... need to get some distilled water, I'm am so thirsty (from working out last night). I'm going to do the water/MC-ing for at least 7 days this month-possibly more. I'm thinking of switching over to veggie combos that promote detoxing at some point this month. I'm going to need my energy for these intense workouts I'm planning. I fasted all this week upon rising until 3 pm with my family. Today I guess I switch it over to water.

Plan today....

Some water off and on... later (after grocery) might have a few lemon drinks.....

Debbie,

I have superfoods in my home but seldom take much of anything except MSM and spirulina. I've never been a "pill" taker... as a matter of fact my doctor took me off the pill many years ago because I continually forgot to take them LOL So... needless to say, it makes me more of a 'grab and eat' it kinda girl when it comes to nutrition. (I take no supplements except chia (http://www.rawveganbooks.com/product_info.php?ref=199&products_id=1001333&affiliate_banner_id=1) seeds when I'm not fasting... if chia seeds would even be called a supplement).

Curious, why take digestive enzymes when you are fasting?

lavendarJ, I love switching it up as well. Today I had planned on doing just water but yesterday I got a great deal on cantelopes, watermelons and persimmons... along with a fridge FULL of pineapple and my box of young coconuts, I'm totally set for the next week and it seems a few days of water isn't factoring in right now. Oh well, I have weeks to get some water fasting in. I am sooooo excited about the juices I'll be drinking. Oh ya, got some nectarines as well but I'll have to fight the family for those LOL I should be able to grab one or two and add them to a juice for myself though.

I woke up at 5:30am today. Weird... every day is earlier on this fast. Less and less sleep seems to be happening for me. I've heard of this... but never experienced it myself till now. I feel like it's 9am... yet it's 6 right now.

So I'm up and ready for another juicey day!!! Already drank 2 glasses of water (which I do as soon as my feet touch the floor, before doing anything else - other than peeing of course)

Hi Aleesha,

(Curious, why take digestive enzymes when you are fasting? )

Good question, haven't got a clue. I've been taking them for 6 years, so it's kinda like habit, I guess. lol I forgot, I also take E-3 live, bee pollen, maca and MSM, but I haven't taken the bee pollen and maca on the fast. I think I will just do the E-3 live and probiotics on the fast. I like to do the probiotics cause I am using an enema daily. I will do another colonic when I reach 1 week. I will probably do weekly colonics as long as I am fasting.

But hey... I'm open to whatever this fast brings me!

It's nice to be fasting with you Deb.

Alessha,

I started doing colonics cause a couple of months ago, I had this skin itching that was driving me CRAZY. It lasted for 2 1/2 months. I went to different doctors, one gave me a prescription for zyrtec and the other told me to just keep taking benedryl. I told them I would not take a prescription that I wanted to find the reason. They both said, you're probably allergic to something your eating. I said I'm only eating raw nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables. They both said its probably the nuts. So, I went on a green juice fast for 5 days and the itching stayed the same. Then I added fruits and green juices for another 5 days, and still the itching remained. I went back to the doctor who told me that I probably would never find the reason and to just take the medicine. So, I finally went to see Fred Bisci, he is a Doctor who is raw fooder for 40 years. He told me my body was trying to detox, maybe from the birth control pill that I stopped taking months before. (which the other "reg" doctors laughed at me and said that has NOTHING to do with it. Anyway, Fred told me to go for a series of colonics because my body is detoxing and its trying to come out through my skin. I went for a colonic and by the second one, the itching COMPLETELY stopped and that was about 6 months ago and it didn't come back. I heard that when your fasting especially, if the toxins cannot come out, you reabsorb them into your body and it makes the detox much worse. Better out than in. Anyway, I feel WONDERFUL after a colonic. Kinda like your walking on a cloud. You feel really light and like your floating when you walk. I didn't know what to expect the first time and was quite nervous, but after just a few minutes on the table and after seeing ALL THAT CRAP (lol) come out of me, I knew I would definitely go back. I went for a series of 8 colonics at that time and I really can't wait to go back next week. I really recommend you go especially if your fasting. You wont regret it. :) :)

Thanks Deb. As I was reading I knew it was detox... I had the same thing when I first went raw. I also experienced it whenever I did a cleansing using herbs... so I understand your itch LOL

At this point I'm listening to my body... if it tells me to do one, I may... I think the most important thing... in life... is to remain open to new ideas. Even if they don't resonate or feel right at the time... giving them a window to come in later if needed... is a good thing. :)

Thank you for sharing with me!

It sure doesn't. I was making some watermelon juice and I added a little lemon to assist the iron to be processed into my system. Well it tasted pretty nice! So I thought... well then I'll add the whole lemon!

Not a good move. I'm not really a lemon person... I'm more of a lime person and even then I'm not fond of 'strong' lemon or lime... and this is strong LOL

So I added some blueberry juice to it. *giggling* Didn't make it better... but of course, I'll drink it. It's good for me afterall!

This morning I made a lovely blend. Normally I'm a mono juice person. Not too much on the blending... not sure why... I just don't seem to do it much. Well I had a little papaya, a little pineapple, a few kiwis, a persimmon and a couple of apples. What a lovely drink that was! My friend that I drove to the bus depot yesterday gifted me with the contents of her fridge... so I was just 'juicing' them up.

I wanted to follow up on my post above where I discussed possible 'hunger' with not fully strained juice. (second post of this thread)

I've been straining my juice and have yet to end up with anything in my strainer LOL So... I don't think that's the cause. I think it's more mental than physical. Now that I believe this, I'll work on changing it for myself.

Happy fasting everyone!

Hey Everyone---

Okay, okay I'm going to have to start the MC on tomorrow.. I ended up buying some stuff at the grocery store and now I'm making a fruit juice drink to sip on througout the day:D

It's so hard to walk past all the beautiful little fruits that I know will be out-of-season and out of my reach soon:D

Moth- your drink is delightful (light and energizing...)

Okay amigos.... take care

08-02-2008, 10:39 AM
raw danceruk, fennel suntea? hmmm how do you make this? just juice the fennel and add water? i loooooove fennel.

for those of you who don't know... fennel is good for your eyes and for headaches.

Moth, have a great weekend!

lavendarJ, i hear ya on the "out of season" - that's part of the reason i ended my 45 day juice feast. i was having a hard time looking at all my favourite fruits coming into season and not having any. now though... i juice them. even if it only makes a little juice... i juice it and sip slowly and enjoy!

for example persimmons are a fruit i truly love. i buy 4 and make myself a lovely juice and although it's a little thicker... i enjoy every moment LOL i try to drink thicker juices in the beginning of my fast and then only thinner ones later on though cause i don't want the thicker juices to cause me to restart my digestion and thus ending my fast too soon. i don't know if they would... but somehow that just makes sense in my head... so i'll only be doing the persimmons for the first 3 or 4 weeks.

today is the start of week 2 for me. i'm detoxing which is good. i sure hope i'd be detoxing.

here it is:

~i'm fasting
~it's the dark moon (which aids us in releasing)
~i have my period

if i wasn't detoxing i'd be concerned LOL

it's nothing major. just super tired. went to be shortly before 8 last night. slept till 8 this morning which is good. i needed it. woke up with detox taste in my mouth... but it was sweet which is different than normal (anyone else had that?) - my teeth felt overly fuzzy this morning so i brushed with salt instead of just water. and i can smell a little detox through my nose (which is common for me to 'smell' detox).

so i put on my cinnamon oil, brushed my teeth, drank a few glasses of water (had a poop not that anyone is asking me if i did LOL) and today i'm going to have some apple juice to assist with more releasing of my bowels.

next dark moon... perhaps i'll even schedule a colonic *gasp*... yup you heard me. perhaps i will.

i'm just going to take it nice and easy this weekend. it's a long weekend here and it's raining. so no meditating on the beach for me :(

You know what...I know it's not lady-like but once when I was cleansing with just citrus juices...it got to the point where I didn't have time to juice before going to work...I "juiced" my oranges by chewing the juice and spitting out the pulp and rest of the fruit-got pretty good at it

Now that I think about it...kinda embarrassing thing to share:p -oh well, not lady like but it worked (also used to cut the oranges with knife and suck the juice out that way too...depends on the kind of orange to get the best results with my method):D

really good and waaaaaaaaaaaaaay sweet...probably not a good idea because the sweetness will probably stir up some cravings for other sweet things...but I'll tough it out tomorrow....

Never had one before, I guess I'll wait and see what if any consequences will come from this combination (bloating/headache,etc)....

Have a good day amigos

angela stokes did the same thing when she was doing a 92 day juice feast lavendarJ... she often sucked and chewed stuff up and spit out the rest.

i often chew aged fresh coconut when i'm fasting as well. later in the fast that is, to give my jaw a work out. i do it for a day or two and then my jaw feels better. also gives my teeth a super good cleaning. i chew and then spit into the sink LOL rinse my mouth out with water afterwards as well. ;)

Back again...

since this is thread is all about fasting/cleansing...think it's okay to talk about bm's...

I've had 2 since that choc-banana shake thingy....well, that's a pretty BIG deal for me... here I was thinking I might have to take a herbal lax tonight before my MC...because long-term MC-ing shuts me down.... I'm definitely mixing this up (my cleansing/ might due a whole week of watermelon juices...thinking about it or cherry/pomegrante).

Aleesha...got an idea..you know a lot about a lot (does that make sense:D )... we all do; wouldn't it be a good idea if we could start some sort of resource directory regarding supplements/whatever we have tried/using that support the immune/digestive system/supports for cleansing/fasting...like a one stop shop (in this case, thread)?....just thinking out loud, this might not be the place to do that...I don't know...guess that's kinda like advertising, just thinnking it would be great to create a list/chart to share with nonraw friends...so many people ask so many questions...guess I need to sit down and do one....

Aleesha Sattva
08-02-2008, 04:24 PM
yes you certainly could do one. problem is though... everyone has different experiences - some people love maca... others do not. some live for wheatgrass *holds up hand proudly* while others find it horrible tasting and don't like the way they feel...

so writing something is hard to say the least... as there is truly an unending list of things you CAN do while fasting... it's all up to you, what you believe, what you desire from your fast and what is available to you.

someone, for example, may feel that cinnamon is an essential part of fasting. others may believe that taking ground flax daily is essential... while others will see this as a way to continue the digestive process and not allow the body to rest.

but... if it feels right to you, then i feel you should do it. cause all we can do is act from our own beliefs and our own knowledge. that's what i do... i cherish that opportunity in my life, that i live in a place and time where i can do exactly that.

just finished watching the movie 'water'... so moving... deeply moving. had a good cry. watched 'miss potter' and cried during that as well.

found myself only drinking water today. i'm pretty dizzy so i don't really want to stand to make juice and since i'm not really using any calories, why take any in! instead i'll just assist this detoxing to continue.

i did just make myself a little roobis (spell?) tea. a tea bag with an inch of hot water... a tiny bit of raw honey... mix it up, take out the tea bag and fill the cup with filtered water. just a smidge of something for my body... nothing major.

ahhhhh time to go relax.

good to hear you've had 2 nice BMs... that is wonderful!

Aleesha Sattva
08-03-2008, 10:25 AM
lots of nice detoxing yesterday, went to bed nice and early (before 9) and slept till 7ish. no major horrid detox - just complete exhaustion and a mild headache here and there. i did mostly water yesterday. did have a cup of tea and then a glass of pineapple/spirulina/wheatgrass juice.

today i'm going to do water unless my body asks for something else. i was reading about water fasting yesterday and it said that very little water (in sips rather than glasses) was needed when water fasting since water is mostly needed for digestion. this makes sense but i figure the toxins coming out in our urine can use some diluting by a nice full bladder. as i know my urine gets very strong smelling when i'm detoxing. (esp first thing in the morning)

but it was nice to read about what worked for that particular person... just shows how something may work for one person and another for someone else. it's so important for us to follow OUR flow, rather than someone else's when we are fasting. "if it doesn't feel right, do something else" are wise fasting words indeed.

the sun is finally back. we've had rain for the last week - so off to the beach we'll go for awhile this morning. have a cup of tea before all the beach-goers get there LOL (the beach is 7 minutes drive from our home)

i know the 'clean everything in sight' will hit me soon... as it did with my other long fast... and i'm happily anticipating that coming. the house could use another deep cleansing with this many dogs in it.

happy fasting everyone!!!

Had a fabulous weekend, lots of fennel and water

Have some clementines and oranges I can juice in the week.. Been in the cold fridge for a while, must use them up!

Made some MC ice lollies yesterday, bit quirky...but nice treat!:o

thanks for the word on the tea... :)

had a shot of wheatgrass this morning... a little cantelope juice. wow, if you haven't juiced one... do it now. it's wonderful. i worried it would be really thick, but it wasn't.

cleansing fish tanks today... and blissing out! a little detox 'smell' in my nose... but nothing else at this time. i say "at this time" cause we all know how that can change.

stopped it at someone's place i haven't seen in a year... he almost passed out when he saw me. he said to my hubby when i walked away "how long you been dating that hottie?"

makes me really smile cause i'm wearing a skin tight sun dress. skin tight! so to hear that... he was seeing all my 'flabby' spots... :)

Hi

My computer was down for 3 days, I was going crazy, not being able to communicate with juicing friends -lol- anyway, as crazy as this sounds, I was feeling GREAT on the 5th day of my juice fast when i got scared that if I didn't break the fast while I was feeling wonderful, I would pig out and break the fast the wrong way, so I broke it....????????? It didn't work anyway, and the next day and the following day, ( which is today) I really, really pigged out (ALL RAW) but crazy amounts of nuts and seeds and treats. I'm so mad at myself again. I need to get back to the fast. I WILL start tomorrow again. Aleesha, I was doing really good while I was talking with you. Darn computer - lol. Well, I'm back, hopefully for awhile.

Thanks, Debbie

hi lav!!! *waves like crazzzy*

hey deb, ah that sucks. well nothing like getting back up on the fasting wagon again. i know the first three days are the hardest and then you kinda get into the zone. don't be afraid of bad days... they are detox and if you look at them as a huge gift to your body... then you cherish them rather than dread them. :)

my day was magnificent. we went to the beach... with pineapple juice and a persimmon/apple blend. mmm nice. spent about 4 hours at the beach and then came home and ran out to get my hubby a new pair of pants for a wedding we are attending next weekend.

i'm a little nervous about the wedding as in the past, i have not done well at social gathering while fasting BUT this time, the reception is at the end of my street (3 houses away) so i can come home if it's too hard to cope. nice to know that.

i figure i'll take plenty of juice with me... way more than i need and give myself permission to go for a walk during dinner :)

otherwise, i'm feeling amazing and said to my hubby today, "if all 20 weeks felt like today... i'd go 40 weeks!"

started the day with young coconut milk... and am having another right now to cool off. just got home from a walk and it's sooooo hot out today... too hot to go for a walk to be honest... but hey, we enjoyed it anyways (although my little dog did not)

later chickos!!!

Hi Aleesha,

I feel better already. Good luck at the wedding. Having the wedding 3 doors from your house has got to make it easier. You can run down the block and regroup in your house and run back. haha I spent the day yesterday at the beach also. Had lots of fun.

Anyway, thanks for responding. Tomorrow WILL be a great day!!!!!!

Hello Everyone!

Just checkin' in..okay here's the deal.. starting a MC/tea-only cleanse tomorrow.... I've been eating some fruits...just can't let those babies go to waste....typically don't eat whole foods while fasting but someone gave me some delicious and juicy nectarines and yummy yummy yummy....

So I just finished the last piece of whole fruit in my house a few minutes ago and I think my fridge is now literally bare (purposely not shopping until I switch over to green drinks)... thinking about juicing some lemons, limes and ginger to make some lemon-gingerade to keep in the fridge when I have to take on the heat (100s with humidity/heat index)

Hi Lav,

Good luck tomorrow. That reminds of when I used to wait till all the food was gone in the house so it didn't spoil before I would start any kind of fast. Unfortunately I would wind up eating soooo much more that I wanted to cause I kept finding trigger foods all over the place. I didn't want to just eat the food that was going to spoil, I wanted to eat ALL the food in the whole house. LOL. Anyway, my husband and kids kept coming home with more food, and I would eat their food to to get it out of the way. LOL again. Everyone would say, stop trying to go on a fast, you eat so much more food this way. This way would take me DAYS to start the fast, sometimes longer. I'd gain 5 lbs before the fast trying to get rid of the food. Now I just do it when the feeling hits, I give the food away if I have to. Works much better for me this way. LOL. Just thought I'd share.

Debbie

I hear ya.... I was blessed with that fruit from someone and I wasn't about to turn that blessing down... This time of year is bittersweet because I know my fruit selection choices will be narrowing down as we approach fall.... I'll get back to my yummy fruits and veggies soon...Today, it's just teas and water....off to stock up on lemons

Hello ladies,

I just wanted to pop in here. I am on day three of a fast. Not sure how long I am fasting for. I would love to do at least 30 days. So that is my short term goal. I have done a 30 day fast once before and loved how I felt after I finished it. So, we'll see where it takes me. This time I am doing more green juices, before I did none. I tried making a savory juice the other day with spinach and cukes and lettuce and spinach, a juiced salad if you would, and eww, yuck, can't do that. It did not taste good to me. So I will stick with adding apples and what not to my green drinks. Today I had a spinach/romaine/cucumber/apple juice and it was surprisingly good. Yesterday for breakfast was starfruit and peach juice. So good!
I'll pop in again later.

lav i'm surprised you didn't juice those nectarines. i looooooove juicing them! especially adding them with some kiwi mmm mmm gooood.

but it is your choice, your body and if eating them was what you needed... then good for you. ;)

deb, i hear ya. i used to do the same, now i just pack up a bag and take it to my girlfriend. she happily enjoys all my avocados since no one in my house likes them. much better than eating 5 more days.

alisha,

i've never tried star fruit juiced. i'll have to give it a try though... sounds yummy. welcome and pull up cushion and get comfy. watch out though... rawdancer often pushes people off their cushions when she's laughing... and deb... well she's likely to try to steal your juice (so watch your glass) other than that... we are a friendly bunch LOL

Hi Aleesha,

I was just reading throught your thread and first of all, I have to tell you I love reading your posts. You have so much to share. I admire you because you truly are the fasting queen.

I fasted for almost 2 days this weekend. Not intentionally, I just listened to my body and I wasnt hungry so I didnt eat, just had some tea.I know, not raw because it was hot but at least it was green tea! I was away from home and that is all I had access to , didn't have my blender for gs. I resumed eating on the second night with a big salad.

I was reading your posts and just realized - it literally popped into my head - that I need to do a fast right now to release some emotional baggage. I realized on Saturday when I didn't eat it was because I had a lot of stuff going on in my head. I am really excited to have figured it out, almost as if you somehow channeled me (please excause my expressions) to do it. Hate to sound weird but I really felt it.

Do you have any suggestions on what specifically to fast on or how I can really be more in tune with myself more? I will start tomorrow morning.

Thanks for this thread and thanks for sharing all of your knowledge.

Um....I have a question... The juice for fasting...can it be made in the vitamix?
Or, is it the kind with no pulp? Sorry if this is a dumb question...

IamLoved
08-06-2008, 04:57 PM
Rrose - You can make it in the vitamix and then strain it. It is not suppossed to have pulp to be a "juice" fast. You can also do a smoothie fast if you don't wish to strain it.

Doing good today. I had orange/pineapple juice for breakfast this morning, grape/apple for lunch and I am working on my supper of celery/cucumbers/swiss chard/carrot/apple juice. It actually tastes pretty good. I am trying to get at least one green juice in every day. Later I might make some detox tea to drink to help things (ahem) move along.

Have a great day all!

Wow - way to listen to your body there girl! That is great... you were able to see all that. I'm so proud of you and happy to channel through ya!!! That is so cool.

If you are looking for a spiritual fast... you could do what I am. I'm drinking coconut water, water and fruit juices. When my body asks for it... I add in spirulina or wheatgrass... but only if my body asks for it.

How do I know if it's asking for it? Simple really. I ask it. "Hey, how about a nice strawberry mixed with that pineapple?" I feel a yes or no in my body... and I honour that. If it's no... I ask it if it wants the juice straight. If that's a no then I ask it "How about blueberries? Red peppers? Blackberries?" etc till I get a yes.

You are in tune with your body... so ask it what it wants to fast on. Ask it how much it wants... it'll tell you. Trust in the answers you get. Just like you trusted yourself this weekend. (((hugs)))

Alisha, sounds like you are doing GREAT! Keep on juicing!

Rose, there are no dumb questions! EVER!

Lav, I hear ya girl... I'm the same way. Water water lovely water! I have a 40 oz bottle (one of those metal ones) in my car... take it with me everywhere I go. Essential IMO when fasting (or even when I'm not) but realllly essential when fasting to never be without some type of fluid at all times.

As for tea... hey lots of people do tea on fasts... I did a nice roobis (spell?) with a little raw honey in it the other day... with ice cubes. Soooo nice going down!

Just finished a wonderful visit with one of my girlfriends. I soooo love and adore her. We drank watermelon/blackberry juice in the garden and chatted about our kids. Such a healing visit. I love spending time with her.

Just made some pineapple juice but while I was making it, I realized my body didn't want it LOL So I froze it in individual jars. This way I can take it out when I need some... and it'll be a nice cold drink! I'm going to pre-freeze juice for the day of the wedding... so I'm prepared.

And yes... there will be pictures posted!!!

yeah... it was not my most brilliant moment. had this weird dry mouth and bad stomach feeling all day... doing a little better now. maybe i'll skip the wheatgrass tomorrow :P had the HUGEST bm right after all that wheatgrass though. oh my goodness. i gawked at it; i've never had mucoid plaque or worms in the toilet bowl so this might be the first time i've gawked.

i'm hoping it WILL become as into poop as we were cause you know me... i loooooove to talk about our poop when we are fasting LOL

speaking of which... yup, i'm still moving my bowels all on their own. *holds up hands waiting to accept her prize*

i wondered if you had a big one after that big glass LOL i imagined you did... and i imagined it was gi-normously amazing too LOL

i just went for a lovely peace-filled walk. didn't take any dogs or kids. ahhhhh bliss. then i came home and had a nice cool bath. it's so hot and humid here... it's crazy. nice to feel warm though i must say - as i've been cold so much lately.

i've been wearing this lycra-spandex type of sun dress covered with sunflowers everywhere. (nothing underneath but my skin) and let me say... i am not getting any disapproving looks from the male population! feels mighty fine... MIGHTY FINE!!!

i am wanting another juice... but at this time of night (8:30) i really don't want to have one. so i may treat myself to another coconut milk... hmmm... actually i WILL treat myself to another coconut milk and go watch a movie. been renting a lot of movies lately. haven't watched any in so many months... but something about the movies i've been renting has been touching my soul in a good way.

ah ya... that's me folks... all blissed out on fasting!

Hello!
May I join?

As of now I don't know what my plan is but my body has been calling for a fast for a few days-I've had some stomach problems for the last week or two and the last two days have not wanted to eat anything-but for some reason I did anyway-and then my stomach gets very uncomfortable. Last night in the bathtub it hit me-LISTEN-so here I am.

I've read through all the post, and Aleesha, I have to say that I love the commitment you made to yourself on page one-I plan on putting that in my fasting journal-such wisdom

I'm not sure yet what I'll be doing, or for how long but I'm ready!

So far today I've had a cup of tea and water.

Come on in and grab a cushion Michelle!!!

I'm so glad to hear you are listening to your body.

How much have you fasted in the past? Personally I find that when I don't give myself a goal... I tend to end my fast sooner than my body always wants. I end up giving into the craving/moment and end my fast.

Hence why I added the "I won't end this fast today... not tomorrow... but the next day." - in order to make myself NOT just end because of a craving.

If there's anything I can do to assist ya... let me know.

Thank you for your quick reply. And thanks for asking, I have another questions as well.
My only other successful fast, is what led me to discover Raw-it was a 10 day MC, I've never done a juice feast and would love to do a long one but have a few questions
1) I know bad breath is common during water or MC fast-does one have to worry about that during a juice feast?
2) Does/Will ones body still realease unwanted pounds and waste (bm)?

Thank you for your help!

Aleesha Sattva
08-07-2008, 10:14 AM
yes and yes. :)

bad breath is detox. detox is what fasting and feasting is all about... so yup, you'll have 'the breath' LOL

your body releases weight... different for everyone but a few pounds a week are pretty much the norm. the more you have to release, the more you release daily. at your weight, i would expect a few pounds a week. i think i've released 11ish pounds so far and in my second week (i weight 164ish).

and... everyone has a different point of view when it comes to bms. personally i use juice to create a bm when i feel i need one (straight up apple juice in a nice a couple glasses and i'm ON) - others use enemas or colonics. it's up to you. there's a thread "to enema or not to enema" which gives some info if you are wondering what to do for yourself. it's a personal thing.

you can follow the 92 day juice feasting protocol... there are other juice feasts as well out there. that's just one of many to be honest. but you need to still follow what your body asks for. if they say drink xyz and your body want xbc... then do what your body wants... use their guidelines as suggestions. you are in touch with your body so you should have no problem doing this.

:D

I can't thank you enough....I'm going to spend the day on water and be as quiet as possible today (while taking care of 2 kids and cleanning the house for great grandma), my plan is to end the day with a walk (alone) and meditation....then I'll decide tomorrow the route I will take.
I'll also do some searches of juice feasting-thank you, thank you, thank you!

sounds like a plan... just remember to be flexible within it. if your body calls for something, (like a juice) be fluid enough to accept it's wishes and provide.

Hello!
Last night in the bathtub it hit me-LISTEN-so here I am.

OneBite, Isnt' it awesome how your body tells you what it needs?

I woke up this morning so excited to start my fast. I mean the second that I woke up it was on my mind! I am really in touch with myself today.

So far I've just had tea and water. I usually have stevia in my tea but i didn't use any, my body didn't want it. This is such a cool feeling.

I have to hit the store after work and get some things for the next few days. I think I'm feeling watermelon and lime...

Happy feasting everyone!

Aleesha Sattva
08-07-2008, 12:38 PM
mmm watermelon and lime!

i made some cantaloupe and kiwi this morning. waaaaaay too sweet so i added water and it was much better. i love the cantaloupe alone... so i'll remember to leave it alone next time. i only added the kiwis cause they were going 'overripe' and i didn't want to waste them.

oh well, it's not a bad juice... just too sweet is all.

IamLoved

Cantaloupe and kiwi?? That sounds interesting.

I am still enjoying my orange pinapple juice for breakfast. Funny thing too, this morning after I drank a quart of my delicious juice I was so full. Stuffed on juice. How great is that? Then I had some peach/mango juice earlier this afternoon. It was a pretty thick juice even though I strained it. It was delish though. Hubby is going to the store today to pick up some more produce. I told him to just get whatever looked good, I'll juice it!

I am surprised at how easy this has been thus far. I think that it is because I am not putting restrictions on myself (except the one green juice a day rule). If I want a sweet fruit juice then I let myself have it. Before when I fasted it was primarily on carrot juice. Now I like carrot juice, I do really, but when that is all that I am allowing myself to drink it gets to be a huge sacrifice. This way is so much more enjoyable.
Have a great juicy day all!

Aleesha Sattva

I hear ya Alisha... choices make it easier for me as well.

My hubby loves the cantaloupe kiwi combo and is taking it to work with him.

Okay something new I'm doing... I'm making up a big batch of juice and then freezing it in individual jars. One serving per jar. This way, I always have fresh juice and don't have to worry about how long it's been sitting. I end up using it all within days (max) anyway so no real nutritional loss.

My friend Melissa Gilbert has been doing this and so I tried it. I looove it. Now I can make a bunch of pineapple juice... a whole watermelon... whatever I want and not feel that I have to consume it all.

This was a problem for me when I did my juice feast. I would make watermelon juice but didn't necessarily want to drink a whole (or half) watermelon in one day. So some got either wasted or I forced myself to consume it.

I love this new 'protocol' I'm flowing with. *smiling*

Alisha, you are adventurous... anything in the store that looks good eh? You may be making a kiwi, apricot, parsley, red pepper juice later tonight LOL

I got to be honest with you guys...when I was camping...I fell off the juicing pony...

It's because I was doing my best to juice the first day, but then the next day, all my friends went wild blackberry picking. The fields were FULL OF THEM, just bulging with the sweet dark berries. They were everywhere, crying out to be eaten, and I couldn't resist. It felt wrong to not indulge in a berry feast right then or something. It's not too many times in my life I've found myself in such a heavenly situation...I just took advantage.

Anyway, I'm back to juicing again. I got all funky in my tummy after my blackberry feast, reminding me that yes, my body wants to juice, to heal, right now. I've been feeling great since I've been juicing again. I guess this means I've "started over", but it's okay. The more juice I drink the better.

glad to be juicy with everyone. :)

i agree with you... indulging in those berries was heavenly. even if i only got to do through you! next time make yourself some yummy blackberry juice as well!

I've even been asked (blessed) to sit at the Mother-of-the-Bride table with her Mom... since I'm like a second Mom to her. I cried when they asked me. I'm so deeply touched.

Anyway, I've already cut my pineapples and have them sitting in the fridge so there isn't as much acid etc in them. (read that in a pineapple/burning thread) - cause I want to enjoy this party completely!!!

Aleesha, how long do you let the pineapple sit? I love pineapple juice; just not the pain in my mouth after too much of it.

Today I feel awesome. I woke up and lifted weights and did some yoga, then drank some pineapple and orange juice, and prepared the juice for my day. After a few starts and stops, I feel more comfortable each time I reenter a fast. My sense of bravery and desire to continue the fast increases. It's fun to be juicy.

Today I also made a lot of orange-spinach juice (used a whole container of spinach and lots of oranges) that was impressive to say the least; green as can be, but sooo sweet and delicious. Even my friends like it; my one buddy kept calling it a "full-bodied juice," haha.

Yoga seems to be one of the keys for my peace of mind, fasting or not. I

Sorry for babbling!

Aleesha Sattva

I let it sit overnight. I read you cut the bottom off and set it upright and let the acid drain or do something... anyway it's not in the pineapple anymore. I needed to cut the top off as well cause these are HUGE pineapples and they won't stand up in my fridge.

That sounds like a full bodied juice all right. I'm looking forward to my wheatgrass juicer coming... soon... patience Aleesha... soon... and then I'm going to add some greens to my juices. My champion does greens... just not fabulously... I know my new wheatgrass juicer will do green fabulously... so I'll be sure to do some.

hmmm... maybe I could do up a bunch and freeze them! *light goes on* and then just add them as 'ice cubes' to my juices!!!

I'm all about making this as healthy but as simple as possible for myself. Having my juices ready-made is wonderful. I didn't even use my juicer today... although I only drank water anyway LOL so that point is rather mute isn't it. *giggling at myself*

Ahhhhh it's so quiet in my home... I love it! Just the sound of my fishtanks and fountain... running water... so peaceful. Even my birds are quiet and the dogs are not barking... bliss. Absolute bliss.

I use this MSM (http://bio-alternatives.net/msm.htm). I love that it's pure and isn't in capsules. I just add it to a little freshly squeezed orange juice and drink it down.

My hubby doesn't like it so he takes a liquid form from the health food store.

Thanks...

I've have only used it on ocassion and it was usually mixed in some sort of supplement... I will be ordering some at the end of the month (or when my budget allows).... Leesh...did it really make a difference for you in terms of helping the skin's overall performance... I'm in year 2 of this raw vegan journey and I think at this phase in the journey, there are still a few pounds to lose but the main thing is to focus on is re-shaping my body...lost a ton of muscle initially but that was to be expected as my body replaced the old muscle formed by SAD eating to this new raw power leaner and healthier muscle... I lost those first 80 pounds so fast that it was kind of scary and to be honest...I think, I know I would have lost a 100 or more...but it really tripped me out to see how fast the weight dropped off (six months)from simply eating healthy and exercising...anyhow...I hope the MSM will help with the tummy area... if it wasn't for that darn stubborn tummy which still is noticeable (poking out) whenever I'm bloated I wouldn't try to lose weight- don't really want a "six-pack", just a flatter looking tummy that isn't noticeable when I am bloated..

Okay enough chit chat now

I'm going to increase my juicing and make the MSM a regular part of my daily intake and see what kind of progress I get (along with my strength training routine)...I have noticed that whenever I have done a long-term MC in the past (like 30 days or more) it has been really helpful in helping the body to "tighten" up and my skins always has a better appearance afterwards...so we'll see.

I can't honestly say if it's assisted me or not, cause I can't 'view' what I'd look/feel/experience this moment without it. But... I can say this.

My dog who is arthritic... I mixed some MSM with some raw meat and we give it to him daily. He stopped moaning and whining in 48 hours!!! I was completely blown away! My hubby gets huge joint pain when he stops taking it. I haven't taken any this fast... and my tail bone and hips have been bothering me (so as I type this I realize) - I need to start taking it again LOL

I can tell you that my 45 year old skin that's covered in stretch marks from 3 babies doesn't look bad at all and that's with releasing 150 pounds in a year.

So... I'll happily take it rather than not. If someone asked me if they should take it... I'd suggest to them that it certainly won't hurt... and it may be very helpful indeed.

Does that help? Cause all I have for you is my honest experience... nothing fancy... just my experience (which I'm not even really sure would be different without the MSM).

Yep, that works for me..that's what I like about these threads...I'm telling you. just don't get to have these discussions with the everyday people around me...I like to hear other people's opinions and experiences...it gives some insight you can't always get from reading an ad online....especially good to hear from raw people like you who really see this as a journey and not a "quick fix" or the lastest "diet fad"....

I think we may need an "Ask Aleesha" thread.....
Aleesha,
reading your posts have got me very interested in doing a long fast/juice feast. I was wondering if there is a particular book on it that you suggest-there are so many out there-I'm looking to plan and do a long one and wanted to go ahead and start some prep work and research on the subject-do you have a "go to book"?

Aleesha Sattva
08-09-2008, 01:06 PM
I do I do I do... I really really REALLY love Jeremy Safron's book "Dining from an Empty Bowl".

Here's a review of it in my mag... click here! (http://www.timelessspirit.com/JULY08/review1.shtml)

*blush* I sure hope no one takes what I say as gospel though... honestly do your own research and live it... then come back and share share share. It's what I'm doing... and I'm happy to share but honestly, it doesn't make me right... just makes this my experience. But... that said... I'm thrilled and excited to assist others... it's my path in life... so thank YOU for assisting me to live my path! (((hugs)))

I'm so excited, I just ordered the book....the "I do I do I do..."" got me, I love to read a book that someone else loves!

I will do my own research, always do....but for me the best way to head in a general direction-is to take a look at someone who is living/experiencing what you want...and ask questions!

Thank you so much....while I'm waiting for my book to arrive I'm cleanning house and clearing my schedule (as much as possible) for the fall, October-December is my favorite time of year-and I would love to do a nice long extended fast during that time. This sould give me ample time to prepare and get adjusted to my fall semester work/school schedule.

One more quick question....
Until then....could I do a juice/water fast/feast, say...2-3 days a week each week? I think this would help me stay RAW and give me practice (making juices and dealing w social/life situations) while I'm learing about fasting?

Aleesha Sattva
08-09-2008, 05:35 PM
That is actually a GREAT idea. A really great idea. I loved doing little week long fasts before I did a long one. It really got me used to the idea and allowed my body to do lots of detoxing before the extended fast which made the extended fast a bit easier to do :P

I'm happy to share my experiences with ya... hope you'll do the same with me cause that's how I learn as well... from other people.

Ahhhh isn't this thread GREAT!!!

I just made some cantaloupe juice (2 cantaloupes) and some pineapple juice (2 pineapples) for tonight. The wedding was absolutely beautiful... truly amazing. What a gorgeous dress she was wearing. Once we are dressed up... I'll have someone use our camera and get some pics of us at the reception. We are in comfy clothes right now before we go back for the food.

Speaking of which... oh man it's not my strength to deal with social situations/food situations when fasting. Tonight is going to take all my will power and won't power combined. Hence why I have so much juice to take along. I figure I can always bring some home... but I don't want to be 'short' and then be even more tempted by the food.

So... think of me tonight everyone. I know other people do great in these situations but so far, this has not been my strength...

well you can all be soooooooooooooooooooo proud of me cause i'm sure proud of myself. not only did i not crave a single thing... and let me tell you i've never seen so much food at a wedding before! but... i didn't even open my little cooler. i just drank water with lemon that was at the table.

i even cut my daughter's food for her... i mean i was RIGHT there with the food and not a single twinge of craving.

Hello everyone!

Hey Aleesha, wow! I'm surpirsed you didn't buy a new dress for the wedding. You can tell in the picture that it is too big for you. How cool is that when it fit god for the other wedding. Good job resisting the food. I cook for my family and prepare food every day so I know how hard it can be. A big ole buffet wedding style is even wrse!

Ok, so I am doing well, on day 9 today. I do have a problem that I am hoping someone can help me with. My mouth is so dry. No matter how much I drink as soon as I swallow I feel like I haven't had a drink in days! Detox? How weird is that? Should I be worried?

Thanks

08-11-2008, 12:11 PM
Na I wasn't going to buy a new dress. I'm going to get it altered once I've lost all my weight (but honestly in real life it looked good on me)... it cost me $250 (and was on sale from $500)... so I'm going to wear --- and get some use out of it. :D

Had some cantaloupe juice this morning. Drank a little too much and my belly is a bit sore right now... but fortunately since juice is digested so quick, I'll be feeling better very soon.

mmmm glad to be taking in a bit more than I have been... but I'm very pleased that my intake was so low with the wedding... so I had no problems making it through it. ;)

I'm almost on 5 straight days and I need some encouragement. I feel kinda tired, achy, icky and worn down; yet jittery and "on edge." I know this has to be detox...right? But it's hard...I work at Whole Foods, right next to the produce department. I know I can juice all the things I want to eat (think I'll try juicing some kiwi) on the other hand I know that eating fruit whole will slow down my detox...but I WANT to detox...

I know I'm just going to have to relax through this...but I kinda need encouragement...

I've gone this far...figure I'll keep going...maybe it'll get easier.

Aleesha Sattva
08-11-2008, 11:43 PM
It will get easier and then it will get hard again... it's all part of the process.

Now... in this moment...

~have a bath
~go for a walk
~play solitaire to keep your hands busy and your mind off food
~read a book about fasting (soooo helps me)
~surf the internet and read about fasting
~go read my blog or anyone's blog who is fasting

last but not least... drink a big glass of water and meditate!

remember... we are here with you... and care deeply about your process... you are NOT alone! (((hugs)))

~~~
as for me... my juice consumption has gone WAY up today. probably close to a gallon for me. i've had a glass every hour all day long. apple or cantaloupe - mm mmm good!
i did a kiwi/cantaloupe the other day... i didn't like it but my hubby looooved it! so perhaps that would be a good one for you moth? or apple/kiwi i bet would be good.
MOTH
08-12-2008, 12:04 AM
Aleesha, thank you, kiwi-apple sounds sooo delicious! I haven't ventured into cantalope territory yet with juicing, heh...although my Whole Foods has the organic ones on sale right now so I better give cantalope on its own a try.
To cope with my icky feelings, I've pretty much been drinking fruit juice allllll night, thinking of it as nurturing myself, giving myself sweet medicine. I know I drank more then a gallon today, whereas yesterday I didn't have much at all. I made a special one awhile ago that was my favorite: just orange and grapefruit, but WOW, it was like electricity going straight to my brain and I knew THAT was what my body was asking for the entire day.
I am very particularly drawn to the citrus juices. But pineapple or watermelon is a nice treat.
...Need to work on my water intake though. I think that's part of the reason why I start to feel like eating sometimes.
Wanted to say hello.... Just the MC drinks and water today... have some toxins that are on the way out. I can tell by the way I look, always get a few little pimples on my face when the detoxing is in full effect (would rather just poop:D ). My sister just turning into a bowel moving machine when she does any sort of cleanse or fast...
Might have a dandelion tea but at the moment, just the MC drink.
Have a good day- I'm about to listen to my music for uplifting and motivation and then get started with all my tasks at home.
Hi Everyone!
Today is the first day of my "40 day fast" I am not giving up coffee but other than that I plan on sticking to 1 or 2 fresh green/carrot juices per day and then supplement it with bottle carrot juice etc (try and stay away from citrus)
My plan for today is to have 1 bottle Acai juice (done), coffee, 1 green/carrot juice, 12 ounce carrot juice @ home. Exercise - 1 spin class, 1 hour ellpitcal. :eek:
I'll post tom. morning and let you know how it goes. :p
hey tinge... just wanted to pop in to say that i personally know that drinking coffee during a juice fast would be a total disaster for me... i don't think it would necessarily cause major damage to you and i know you weren't asking for opinions on your choice... but do me a favor and just watch how your body is reacting to the coffee after a day or two of no solid foods. if you start feeling awful, look to the coffee first and see if that might be why. your body gets way more sensitive as time goes on. i'd predict that after a couple days (if not the first day) you'd start seeing headaches, agitation, stomach cramps/pain, acid reflux/heartburn, diahhrea... maybe heart palpitations... just be careful. lots of those things can be called detox, but severe digestive distress is going to be the coffee causing problems for you with nothing in your stomach to buffer its acidity. also coffee is very dehydrating so drink even more water than you normally would.
hey beckx, nice to see you! (((hugs))) how about water the first day?
i agree with beckx, tinge drinking bottled juices (which are dead food) and coffee is not going to give you the healing effects of a fast. you aren't feeding your body while you fast... instead you are starving it. i strongly recommend you rethink your choices... although they are totally 100% yours to make.
moth, nice to hear you made it through the night. drinking lots during times of stress is such a good idea. (((hugs)))
lav, crank it up baby!!!
here's my little update: so far i've had some water and then a small glass of pineapple juice with 1 T MSM in it and 1 tsp hemp oil... went down nicely actually which was a pleasant surprise LOL. I'm off to the beach (surprise eh? LOL) with some pineapple and some watermelon juice.
thanks for the tips. i don't mind at all. :) well i am going to try and drink as much fresh juice as I can, it just is the cost that is sooooo much more. I don't want to buy a juicer and all that. They make juice for us at work, so I can get that in the am and lunch. ($4 ea.)
I totally hear you about coffee, caffiene. I just am going to do the best I can right now, coffee is a bit too much for me to cold turkey on. I will just give up and quit. So I'll just ease into it the best I can and reevalute when I need.
It's 2:30pm here and I'm def. dying but I know it will get easier. :) Thanks again. and Happy Birthday!
tina (tinge), may i ask... why are you choosing to fast at this time? what is it that you are hoping to achieve with this fast and what do you plan on consuming once it is done? are you planning on becoming raw or is this simply a fast for you and then you will resume your regular standard american diet existance? i'm asking because it's easier for us to assist you if we know what it is you are hoping for.
also, sometimes it can be easier for us to remove our addiction to coffee first and then fast. consuming coffee during a fast is much like eating a burger for supper every night while being vegan ;) it's very 'contrary'... since the point of fasting or feasting is to get your body to an alkaline pH and coffee is acidic... so you are reducing if not destroying any positive effects of your fast by doing it this way.
do you get what i'm trying to say? i'm kinda out of it today (it's the one month anniversary and birth day of a very close friends death today)... so i may not be explaining myself well.
Ok, did fine for a couple of days but once I felt my emotions surfacing I couldn't deal and had a kale salad with avocado. This is my raw "comfort food". I tried again the next day and in the evening after fasting on MC lemonade all day I had a severe headache and had to lie down because I felt so sick.
I really feel I need to fast to get all of these bad emotions out but I can't get past 2 days. I am also feeling negative feelings all day about everything. I can't keep my mind straight at work without getting depressed.
How is everyone dealing with these situations if you are even having them?? I just want to cry all day long. :confused:
Aleesha Sattva
08-12-2008, 09:13 PM
Well I can only speak for myself... but yup, fasting is hard. Nothing easy and simply about it. Some days are really really tough (I'm having one as well) and other days are a breeze. You never know what you are going to have... or how the day will progress till it does.
When I'm having a bad day, I try to drink more juice, meditate, have a nice relaxing bath, go for a walk and spend some time at the beach. I've done all of those so far... except the bath and I'm still having a very hard time of it. Feel on the edge... out of sorts... grieving my friend and missing him like crazy.
But... I know from experience, this too shall pass. Tomorrow is a new day and so often, I just go to bed early to get to tomorrow faster.
All I can say GD is... drink lots and remember why you are doing this. Eating a kale salad is so hard on your body... try to stick with something more gentle, like just the avocado, a piece of soft fruit or perhaps a watered down green smoothie IF you have to eat something.
(((hugs))) to you on your journey.
Thanks for the questions and taking an interest. :)
Actually, I don't like to label my eating habits. I think it's personal and rather avoid "arguements" or being "defined" as this or that. Currently, I don't eat meat and rarely, if ever, eat eggs. I do have dairy sometimes but milk and yogurt gets to me sometimes (the thought of what it is) . I use to be vegan for a short while and found I am best listening to my body. I am doing a juice fast now for personal reasons that I don't want to share on the internet ;) but it's all quite normal - detox, more energy, redefine eating patterns, spiritual etc.
Post fast I don't know. I try and only worry about today and let the future worry about itself. I figure when I finish this I will have a better idea of what my body can or can not handle and take it day by day.
As for coffee - I have no desire to give this up, It's not something I think is unhealthy. If it does become too potent durning the fast and I feel it is having negative effects. I'll stop but for now I am fine.
Bottle juice - I don't want to buy a juicer, or invest in buying produce each week, clean up, prepartion all that. not my thing at all. plus I am moving overseas in a year and I don't want more "stuff" to deal with. So I will drink as much fresh juice as I can but an occ. bottle juice works for me. I totally get why somepeople don't like this tho.
Today went pretty well except I left my gate key at work so I can't leave my place to go work out (Grrrr) I won't be able to get back in. I had to wait 30min just to get in this time.
Consumed - 1 acai juice, 1 coffee, 1 green/carrot fresh juice, 8 ounces pomengrate juice, sparkling water.
ps - apologizes for poor spelling, grammar etc. in a bit of a rush ;) hope i answered your question and hope that you can accept me as is. if not let me know and i quit posting here. i don't want to upset anyone or step on toes.
Tina,
Do you have a blender? Did you know that if you blend up your produce (veggies or fruit) and then put it into a nut mylk bag or a paint strainer bag from home depot - it works just as good as a juicer. ;) It'll certainly save you heaps of money in the long run cause $4 a juice adds up quickly.
I want to support you in your fasting but because this is a raw foods board, could you at least not list the coffee and bottled juices you drink daily? Just name what juice you drank and leave it at that and perhaps in a personal journal or something you can write EVERYTHING you had for your own records?
Beckx,
Ah it's nice to have you here with me again. Can't WAIT for tomorrow!!!
Hey guys...brace yourselves...I gotta talk about poo for a sec. It might get graphic...
Okay, it's day six for me: for the past day, I've had runny stools...liquid diarrhea. And let me tell you...it STANK LIKE HELL. I've lived on mostly whole fruits for the past three months before fasting, and my stools have gotten to be almost...well, pleasant smelling, almost fruity. I haven't had a stinky poo in ages. WEll, it's coming out of me now...
Could this be my body releasing waste and toxins?! What could account for the foul odor?
What should I do in the meantime, while it is releasing like this? I drink orange juice, pineapple juice, watermelon juice, all raw juices that I make using blender or hand squeezer and then straining. I feel like I might just drink water today...I have the day off work to rest.
...I should mention the past 48 hours I've had an unquenchable thirst, too.
good luck tina! i think another option too could be not including your specific intake at all and just posting on your process. but if that's important to you, i'm sure there are other communities that will be supportive.
aleesha and gd, sending you both love to get through the hard days.
today has been excellent. got my produce this morning, felt really excited about all of it, made an amazing pineapple-beet juice (when this is first made it is the most amazing color... it gets a little darker as the day goes on so i try to drink it right away) and for later orange-parsley and cucumber-celery-kale. 3.5 quarts in total and i think i'll probably make another quart of something special because i'm going to a restaurant/bar for a birthday party tonight and want to feel included. maybe something with honeydew... honeydew-mint? mmm.
hmmm actually i know this is a fasting thread and not a feasting thread so i hope it's ok for me to post. i'm not following any protocol intentionally, but i do feel like i need lots of juice to get past the first few days. also one of my goals during this time is to be able to exercise and do yoga, so i'm being intentional about feeding my body with enough nutrition to do those things.
i feel so much better already, i was in such a rut and as soon as i took my first sip of juice today i knew that i had made a really good decision. this feels right and i feel lucky to still have a community on this board to go through this process with. :)
beckx,
i feast some days, fast others. i think that this thread is for those who are doing any combination of any kind of fasting LOL. the other thread was for '92 day juice feasters' who were following the protocol... obviously i was not doing that LOL so i decided i should start a new thread which suited my needs better. but honestly... let's just use this thread for anyone who's fasting and wants to be supported. obviously someone who's just doing M/C isn't going to get 'advice' from people who don't do M/C - just as juice feasting protocol people won't get advice from people who don't know their protocol but they can get support and love and 'community'. make sense?
and besides... it's really not up to me... who the heck am i other than another one of the fasters here... who is simply wanting a place to hang my hat, get my hand held... perhaps get a pat on the back or a hug when needed and feel connected to others who are experiencing similar experiences.
i am no more 'worthy' of being here than anyone else. i'm here to learn from all of you and it's my hope that i can become a better person - a cleaner body - a healthier me in the process.
(((group hug)))
and if these ideas don't suit others... feel free to start a thread to meet your needs. i'll happily come in and support ya (if ya want me) cause it's all about us getting our needs met... and the only way we can do that is by asking for what we need. after all, we aren't mind readers ;)
that's why i started this thread... to get my needs met and i thank every single one of you for meeting them for/with me. i am stronger on this fast because of YOU!
~~~

beckx, your juice combos sound amazing. just amazing. i just juiced 2 huge pineapples with strawberries. juiced those bad boys up and popped em into the fridge. upped my MSM to 2T at a time... rather than 2 doses of 1T each... and my hips are feeling better - which is nice. even my tail bone is feeling a bit better now... ahhhh the power of fasting!

i'm going to run out and get some tomatoes... so i can juice them up later. want some fresh herbs as well as i'm soooooo craving some herbs and my garden isn't producing enough for me to keep picking from it.

i'm also thinking of making your orange/parsley as that sounds amazing.

still pretty heavy in the grieving department. can't seem to get out of this funk... but i figure it'll pass when it's ready. another layer of the onion being peeled away...

Oh my gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooodness... that was orgasm in a glass. I added some kelp, cause honestly what is tomato juice without kelp??? and I couldn't believe how good it was.

Thank goodness I have another 5 tomatoes for later. mmmmmmm so good.

5 tomatoes
1 red pepper
1 stick of celery
1/2 bunch of parsley
cayenne
smoked salt
kelp powder

mix and consume with RELISH!!! (not the cooked kind... the enjoyment kind LOL)

I've had a huge realization today. I never knew the feeling I had in my body was due to tomatoes. When I juice them I get this almost 'drunken-like' feeling in my muscles... and I get very very hungry. I thought it was simply part of my juice feasting experience... I never knew it was the tomatoes!

I haven't had tomatoes during this fast. Everything has been going along beautifully, no hunger, no real struggles to speak of (a few but nothing major) but tonight, after having the tomato juice I mentioned in the post above this one - I am feeling almost drunk and very very hungry. I've had lots of pineapple juice since to wash away these feelings.

Wow... I never knew it was the tomatoes.

That juice sounds sooo yummy, Aleesha. It makes me very excited to think of all these juice combos I have yet to try.

Today marks day 7 with my fast. :) I can't believe how time has flown by! I did water-only for day 6 (I might do it again for Day 7) and am feeling content. I know part of it is because it's been a long time since I've been able to power through something, and stick with it. Is it okay to feel proud of yourself? I still have a long way to go...but I feel like this is a milestone.

I know a lot of it is due to the wonderful people here at this message board, and found in this forum and thread in particular. Thank you for supporting me when it gets very hard. It's great to know that I can come here and just vent about a rough day fasting and or seek advice on a particular facet of the fast. I am definitely in this for Spirit now.

Happy fasting, everyone!

congrats on day 7 moth! a whole week! of course its ok to be proud, you're fantastic!

a note on the orange-parsley combo... i don't know if i did something differently this time but when i put it in the fridge it turned into sludge and got really bitter - so that combo it seems is another good one to drink right away. but it really is delicious.

aleesha that tomato juice sounds really good. still waiting for our tomatoes and peppers to ripen here but i'll have to try it when they do.

woke up this morning so sore all over my body. must be detox...? because i didn't push myself at all yesterday. strange. gonna stretch it out and make my juice, have a great day everyone!

Aleesha, your tomato juice sounds amazing. Did you juice it or blend it?'

I made my version of tomato soup today for lunch but it's thinked out so I can drink it as a juice. I put a jalapeno in it. MMM spicy. I need to check out the smoked salt.

This morning I had carrot, celery, cucumber and rainbow swiss chard. Yum. feel pretty satisfied.

Moth, you should be proud of your 7 days, that is great.

Beckx, hope you are feel better.

I juice everything... don't use my vita-mix for juicing. Did you use a nut mylk bag or paint strainer to strain your 'soup'... cause you don't want that fibre going into you... even if it is watered down. it'll still activate your digestion and get your hunger going and then fasting is so much harder.

moth... wow congrats... HUGE congrats. i remember when i first went 10 days... which was more than i had ever fasted before... big celebration in my world... big big BIG.

green diva, great to see you here!

beckx... ahhhh it's like i've come home to see you posting again. (((hugs)))

i am detoxing. nothing major but i can taste it - and my smell and taste is very sensitive when i'm not fasting so when i am... it's even more sensitive. my body is still healing on a nice deep level which i'm extremely pleased about. happy to have that happening.

my daily meditations are going great. finding my mind is like a yo-yo though. some days i sit in silence, other days "monkey mind" just won't stop running around and chasing itself LOL but hey - it's a process. i'm still really hoping i'll be able to attend a 10 day vipassana retreat... would LOVE to do it while fasting, we'll see what live has in store for me. perhaps i'll be able to do it close to the end of this fast.

my eyes have never been so sore and tired before. they wake up tired. i know they are healing at a deep level and i welcome this but i also look forward to it passing.

my girlfriend and i are getting together tonight to visit in her hot tub... looking forward to that! especially with the moon so close to being full.

some of you may find a difference... i know i do. fasting on a full moon is easier than during the dark moon (new moon). the full moon is healing and 'filling' while the dark moon is releasing and emptying. doing simply water during these times can add great dimension to your fast... but it can be very difficult during the dark moon.

the full moon (and dark moon alike) last 3 nights. the night on your calendar is the 2nd night of this phase. so one night before, the night of and the night after.

have a juicy day everyone!!!

anyone poop lately? http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/bathroomsmiley.gif i have... yesterday and today already! and no small amount either. this process blows me away. to think i haven't eaten in (off to count days)... in 20 days... and yet still full BMs are coming out of me. and trust me... there is no fibre in what i'm taking in. none. if i'm at all not sure... i've strained my juices to find out and the only one i need to strain is my cantaloupe juice... the rest are clear and pulp free (well as pulp free as they can be anyway).

i love this journey! http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/thheart.gif

I didnt strain my "soup". I guess I wasn't thinking. I will still drink it though, don't want it to go to waste.

I guess the fast I'm doing is just liquids for now. My own modified version. I will work my way into more juices as I go. I will have to pay attention to what makes me hungry and stay away from it.

I want to share the message on my Yogi tea bag. (yes, green tea during my fast! I am freezing in this air conditioning at work)

"Empty yourself and the universe will fill you"

Love that! And now it is my signature. See, even my tea bags are talking to me... LOL :)

Aleesha Sattva
08-14-2008, 11:02 AM
I love that as well!!!

Hey whatever works for you is exactly what you need to do. A modified fast is still going to give you cleansing after all. It's all about what you want to achieve and how you want to go about it. I'm all for modifying things to suit my needs... whatever they are in that moment. I only mentioned it in case you were wanting to juice fast/feast.

I love roobis (spell?) tea during my fasting. Don't do it often, but I do when my hubby and I go to the beach and he's having a coffee. Nice to have something with him. A little honey and mmm warms me right up. If it's hot out, I have them fill my cup 1/2 way with warm water to steep my tea, then I add my honey and have them fill it the rest of the way with ice cubes. So refreshing.

My friend puts a tea bag in a large gallon of water and lets it sit in the sun... then drinks it later. Another nice way to do it.

It's about finding your own beat... and then following it. If you notice... I love to create my own beat. Some say I'm 'off beat' but in my soul... it sounds like perfection. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x87/recyclinggoddess/6.gif

Definitely another one I would get if you are doing a juice feast... even a short three day one. Lots of info in it and it's not expensive at all. There's an e-book version on Angela's site... here (http://store.rawreform.com/product_info.php?ref=166&products_id=1001316&affiliate_banner_id=1) and of course a printed copy here (http://www.rawveganbooks.com/product_info.php?ref=199&products_id=1001278&affiliate_banner_id=1).

sitting in a meeting last night... albeit a really frustrating and emotional meeting in a lot of ways... i suddenly had to leave the room because i was about to start bawling. had another cry today. maybe it's the full moon, i'm also due for my period soonish (never get the crying kind of pms though... actually pms is pretty much a distant memory) but i think a big part of it was detox.

so trying to have a quiet day today, sauna and maybe a run later sounds like a good idea.

Just checkin' in...

I finally had a movement today and I'm glad I went this workshop. It was all about essential oils and things and the instructor passed out a wealth of scents and provided instructionals and much more...anyway, I requested oils to stimulate my bowels and she gave me a combo and I had a nice LARGE bowel movement - finally. Being so caught up with my raw food journey this past year, I forgot about how passionate I once was about my herbs and oils. I ended up staying after the workshop was over and we chatted and chatted (instructor, one other person and I) .... Four hours later, I think this company is the place to link up with and become a distributor/teacher. I'm doing a little more research and then I'll be contacting the instructor once I know what my options are. I think I'll be incorporating some oils into my fasting...

Take care everyone.........

I am so passionate about herbs and oils also. I love English Roses and herbs with a passion and would like to start a vegetable garden. Actually, I'd love to have a nice big greenhouse!

so... since we are discussing oils... i put cinnamon oil on my wrists every day when i am fasting. it assists with reducing your hunger (i think) and releasing toxins (i think)... i'm not really sure just know melissa told me to do it and it has helped. i notice the days when i wear it and when i don't.

noticed this morning i am out :( so i have to pick up another bottle on payday.

Very interesting about the cinnamon oil...I will definitely have to try that.

I ate a peach last night. So that was 7 days juice, 2 days water for me...and something weird happened to me after I ate the peach: I got SEVERE mouth pain and couldn't enjoy my food. My entire mouth was SORE. I was thinking this was detox caused by water fasting, as during the fast I couldn't even drink water without it causing my mouth pain. Maybe my mouth was really acidic from toxins?

Anyway...I feel like I accomplished what I needed to do with this recent fast. :) I didn't mention it here; but basically I've been struggling for WEEKS with a habitual marijuana attachment. But fasting really helped me confront and move past this and now I'm DRUG FREE! I've had several sober days in a row this week, which is huge for me. I hope to keep it up.

I'm thinking that I will begin juicing again because ever since that peach (and the resulting pain) food just hasn't looked the same to me. And also because I will be getting a juicer soon and I can't wait to put it to the test...

Hope everyone is having a great day. :o

I did try it once, but I kept worrying that the oil was sliding down my throat, and I did it for 20 minutes and it wasn't cloudy at all like I read it should be...so I didn't do it after that.

Hey there...
I wish I had wrote them all down, what I remember (applied them topically and also through inhalation) was pepperment, sage, fennel, Laurus,....I think lemon and at least two other oils.... I'm going to look on the site to find the other oils. The company is youngliving.com. I'm going to dig around a little bit more - researching and checking them out and asking those I know in my area cause I think this I might go with them as far as entertaining the idea of being a distributor for my area goes...they have a very down-to-earth approach (versus being competive-focused and strictly business)... The neat thing about this is that the lady who gave the workshop yesterday is high-raw (she said she's been 100% during this summer thanks to such abundance in her home garden this year, she hasn't had the need to buy things at the grocery). It's nice to meet someone who actually gets raw....

I agree with you about aromatherapy.. some think it's crap, but it has always been useful to me in the past-before raw. Now that I think about it; I've never really had any sicknesses, the flu (last time I had the flu was 1990 for one miserable day)-measles-mumps-chicken pox, etc. etc.- never had any of that stuff and this was as a SAD eater so I have to credit this to God of course and being given the wisdom to take the herbs and use aromatherapy, fasting and all the other things that I did before RAW...has to be what has kept me from being sick (looking back on all the junk food I used to eat). If we could only get some of my loved ones who are suffering to open their minds to understanding that I'm not holding out on a "magic pill" or some secret...that it is as simple as fresh and live fruits, veggies, nuts; that the flowers and herbs provide healing oils and properties...if we -as a society- would only respect the earth, it could sustain us...

Well, that's another story for another thread, let me stop digressing:D

Wow, my last post disappeared into cyber space....

Here we go again... an update on my fasting...

Today, I'm not fasting, simply enjoying juices (will be in a minute, put some in the fridge to chill a bit) I'll be drinking some pineapple juice, coconut water, and also some papaya juice and of course more water....

I decided to "re-think" my fast...it feels like I've been going through the motions and haven't been really connected to the fast the way I need to be... I'll be doing some thinking and writing about it tonight; I believe my body, mind and spirit are calling for me to go into hibernation (meaning abstaining from everything that isn't absolutely necessary in terms of daily functioning this week). It makes sense that I feel this way, I'm about to go back into my regular routine (in about a week) which means I'll be full speed ahead back into deadlines, late nights of research, etc. etc. next week...so that's that

I was just reading the post and I see everyone seems to be journeying along on their fast...glad your "back" Aleesha:)

You know what I was thinking.... looking back on all my fasts - cause I fasted long before raw- I've never had any major detox symptoms. My face will break out depending on how I fast (certain herbs and things tend to accelarate my detox process and so the toxins will come out in the form of a few pimples on the face-wish they'd just come out the exit door:D ) The extreme for me tends to be extreme exhaustion when it's a long fast (like 30 days or something) but that's about it... My longest fast has been almost 40 days. I think I may do a 40 day one this year, I'll have to plan ahead though.

My sister always has the typical "flu-like" symptoms, sometimes even vomitting and usually headaches during her detox. I hear so many people saying stuff like this.

What about everyone here? What has been the worst detox symptom that you've known.....I think that in large part, my healing came from my writing (my gift that was my saving grace) Fasting for me seems to reveal insight these days versus healing from past wounds and that sort of things. It's an interesting process.

Nausea and vomiting get me every time I water fast now, usually around day 2.

What's strange is that when I fasted before going raw, I never had that symptom. In fact a lot of my detox symptoms have increased since going raw.

very odd about the mouth pain. i've never heard of that. (((hugs)))

i wouldn't worry about the oil going down your throat... so little would... it wouldn't be a big deal IMO.

The concept of oil pulling (preferably unrefined sesame oil) is that it's pulling toxins out of your body. If you're pulling toxins out via the oil, the last thing you want is that noxious mess in your stomach.

true but a little going down your throat isn't something i'd worry about... after all... ALL those toxins were in you minutes before. so even if you can only get 98% out... i'd take the 98 over zero. :)

moth,

perhaps (i'm guessing here) your detox has increased since you are only bringing in health now and your body doesn't need to hold on to 'protection'.

like when you are a smoker... your body creates mucus to protect it from the smoke...

does that make sense?

never vomited... had some nausea in my first fasts... exhaustion is my main thing, grumpy is my second LOL at least in my opinion. i don't like being grumpy and really dislike being like that with the ones i love - but i figure emotions have got to be released, not reabsorbed.

at this point though... when i talk about detoxing... it's nothing much at all really... i think being a reiki m/t is part of that... as with every attunement i do, i detox... so it gets to a point where you've already detoxed a lot. perhaps??? maybe??? i really don't know... i'm just guessing to be honest. (today is a guessing day i guess LOL)

on friday (was it?) i was itchy which i haven't felt in awhile and i'd say it was my biggest detox day of my fast so far. i'm in week 4... (day 20 something) so we'll see what the next weeks bring me.

some people have asked why i'm blogging and staying on this site and posting while i fast instead of shutting it down and going within. i have a few reasons.

first, it keeps me focused on what i'm doing. it gives me so much strength to keep on fasting when i'm able to read everyone's posts/experiences.

second, i love teaching. if my experience can assist someone else who's fasting... just one person... then i'm a happy mama!

third, i work on the computer, so i have to be online anyway. my magazine doesn't create itself - although some days i wish it would LOL - so this is a nice work break. a time to look at me and my life... and share it with others.

also i'm a writer... just gotta write about it. just gotta

but i totally understand someone wanting to go within. i envy it. how nice to go sit by a river or stream, drinking fresh juices and simply meditating. ahhhhh that would be bliss. but at this time, it's not where my life is. even just going within and getting rid of all outside stuff like tv and computers... but alas, with my family living here at the same time, that is not going to happen either. so i'll do it as i can right now and perhaps i can live vicariously though you lav? please?

i sure do love coming here though... hope no one minds me being so chatty... i do love to share.

Ok, so on that reasoning, before you went raw and you hacked up mucus, did you make it a point of swallowing it back down?

On more than one occasion I've had a bit of mucus my body was trying to expel wind up in my stomach and without fail within 4 days I'd come down with a nauseas feeling and spend the better part of 3 hours trying to vomit up the mucus. And that's the only thing that came out...mucus that I couldn't get out of my body days earlier.

So yeah, it was in my body and my body wanted it out - not 98% of it, but all of it.

no i didn't. but i'd rather remove 98% of the mucus than zero. sorry... i know we disagree and i'm fine with that... i just see even removing a little of anything toxic is better than holding onto it all.

Good morning...

we definitely have a lot of the same interest (as many of us writers do) I've been wanting to do a magazine targeting health issues and things like that for the longest time.... It seems like there is always some other obligation distracting me from my passions... but someone reminded me of something just by listening to how they had to come to terms with their desires to something and it seemed like the doors were not opening up... they said "not now does not mean not ever"... that's what I have to remind myself...

Guess I'll be drinking some water...oh I just did that...guess I'll whip up a MC drink or something like that...actually I need to finish off that coconut water and the pineapple and mango juices.....I guess today I'll resume fasting and will try to focus on productivity as I go through the day today...my sister and nieces and nephew came over late last night and spent the night - last night for the kids before their summer break officially ends - they return to school on Tuesday....

We agree to disagree.

You advocate that it's ok to swallow a little from the oil pulling and I advocate that once the body has released a toxin, the goal is to get it out of the body and not re-ingest it.

Your theory doesn't work for me because you are taking the toxins from one form within the body and putting them into another form with the oil being included. Since you have an admitted fixation with "poop" perhaps this analogy will make sense: to me what you are suggesting is like re-ingesting what your bowels have eliminated.

People that eat 70%+ raw have a much cleaner body than those eating SAD; therefor, it stands to reason that the consumption of oil from a pulling would adversely affect them in a stronger way than those that are SAD.

The toxins in oil pulling - if they are the result of incorrect eating habits - have already gone through the stomach once and don't need to go through it again.

I think Aleesha is very wise to keep up with this forum and post and learn. We are all in this journey together and need to be supportive and respectful and learn from each other.

Every BODY is different. Every BODY is going to react differently. Every BODY will detox in it's own way at it's own time. Every BODY will eliminate weight in due time. Every BODY will get to where it needs to be.

I respect the fact that there are so many from all walks of life here supporting each other. Asking questions (some rather redundant, but that's okay) and some that make me think.

I respect that I don't know everything (never claimed to, never WILL claim to).

I love that Alissa has given us this FREE (hear that? FREE) forum to learn and grow from...

thanks!!!

I'd rather eliminate what I can and do what I can than be fearful that I'm not doing it EXACTLY as someone else thinks it "should" be done. There are a lot of grey areas in life ~ and a lot of rainbow colors as well ~ and life was not meant to be a struggle.

Close to the beginning of the month I realized that my body was really itching for a fast. It was one of the most obvious signs I've ever received from my body. I was trying to figure out what kind I would do and realized that a juice fast seemed very very appealing. Next step, buy a juicer or use my VM... Dave (bf) and I have been saving for a while to get a juicer and we order our Omega on thursday. It will be here tomorrow and we couldn't be more excited. I was actually surprised when he said that he wanted to join me! We both got into this cleansing/purging mood and rid our house of 80% of the furniture and 90% of the "trash." All the pots and pans, minus one lil pot, are gone and saturday I went to farmers and got this:

40lbs of organges
5 bunches kale
5 bunches carrots
1 bunch beets
2 bunch celery
3 melons
3 baskets blackberries (because that and melon just sounds really really good)
1 basket figs (to munch on before the juicer gets here and fresh figs are exciting)
3 cucumbers
2 bunch cilantro
1 bunch parsley
and I think thats it
for just over $60! All organic too. I love farmers.

So, I'll be joining you guys in a day! I'm really excited. I'm going to water fast today (and maybe tomorrow because the juicer will most likely show while I'm at work). I'm really scared but even more excited. I look forward to being a part of this community. You guys have made it sooo warm, supportive and inviting (I'm been lurking since this thread was started).

Hurray!!!

ah very good book... i'm so glad you are getting it. angela stokes book is totally worth the $15 as well. ;)

advice... hmmm... let me think about this for a moment.

well other than my 'mission statements' (see the first posts of this thread for those) i think the advice i may have been able to use was "it's not easy honey... just push past the hard times and know that the sun is shining on the other side of that hill"

fasting isn't easy. some days are but many days aren't. it isn't this lovely skipping in the garden smelling fresh flowers... it's often yucky. you detox, you crave, your mind plays around with you (in meditation we refer to this as 'monkey mind'...) but IF you choose to persevere... your body will thank you.

AND every single fast i've done has been easier than the one before. it doesn't have to be a long fast... the next one can be the same length... but IF you decide to do an extended fast... that is where the real amazing stuff comes from. spiritually, emotionally, mentally and physically... you receive so many gifts from the longer fasts. at least, i have.

i am soooo excited for you both. you've made a somewhat 'not good' day... a great one!!!

Snownoir

I'm really glad to hear that I've helped bring your day up. I plan on an extended fast. Dave and I talked last week about our mission (after reading that post :) ) and he wants to go at least a week and then after that go as long as it takes him. Me... I want to go at least 2 but I really hope for at least a month. I used to be very spiritually attuned and awakened. I was closed off recently after a falling out with a friend. I want to open that back up (I was learning reiki as well previous to that). I know that I'm going to continue with yoga a few times a week (though I'm nervous about that because it leads me to crying already, I dont want to imagine what will happen when I start to detox emotionally) and I want to work on my meditation, though doing so scares me....

A friend of mine who feasted recently advised that I feed my body/spirit/mind with something other than food during the fast. So I'm going to up my chinese lessons and read more and do yoga at home... and meditate (maybe) and hang with the dogs, take them to the beach more... something. Oh, and go to sleep early so the next day can come... Haa haa.... I can't wait!!!!

How much produce do you find yourself going through?

Aleesha Sattva
08-18-2008, 02:40 PM
i don't go through much at all. i drink maybe a litre a day... although some days i drink 4 litres. i go with the flow. i don't tell my body what to do, i just follow it.

i've found that sitting in silence and just relaxing and focusing on my breath a few times a day (or more) really assists me greatly. i've already meditated 3 times today and it's noon.

yoga is great... i find that the triangle poses are difficult for me as sometimes i get dizzy with them, so i tend to do more 'sitting' or 'laying' poses while fasting. but follow your body, it'll tell you what to do.

journalling is GREAT and a wonderful way to stay connected to your Self during your feast. have you started a blog yet?

i find the beach is very very healing for me, i spend a lot of time there. i hoped to get there today but it's raining like crazy so i won't be going there now LOL

and yup... going to bed to end this day and start another is one of my favourite things to do while fasting...

hope i answered all your questions. i'm sure beckx and lav (and others) will have valuable insights to share as well.

Hey there-

By dry fasting I just mean abstaining from all liquids for a period of time or the entire 24 hour period... even abstaining from water...I guess this is more of a traditional fast, what I started out doing years ago and grew up seeing family members and others do. I usually may decide to fast from sun-up to sundown and then will have a tea/juices or just water a couple of times that day and then that would be it during the fasting period. I can usually do this type of fasting for a period with no problems-really helps me when I need to give my digestive system "time off" and need to focus on nothing other than the purpose that I'm fasting for, sometimes I'll just fast the whole day...

How's it going with ya, don't think I've chatted with you for a while...

dry fasting speeds up toxins leaving your body as well. i know for me, living in a very humid environment... dry fasting is great for 24 hours but in a climate like arizona it wouldn't be a very good idea as the heat dehydrates your body quickly. i have heard and read that after dry fasting you are supposed to drink a few litres of fluids to rehydrate the body's organs.

so the next morning you would drink drink drink. i know i did a 'sorta' drier fast when i did my 5 day water fast and didn't drink much water. not only was i soooo dry in the mouth but my stools afterward were huge rocks which were extremely painful to pass. that's when i was told i was supposed to rehydrate with the water. oh well... live and learn. i won't be doing that one again LOL

and i agree lav... the appreciation thread is GREAT.

What a day! I'm officially on day three now! I've been feeling myself going more and more internal; more content then ever just being. I've felt so peaceful most of the time. Earlier today I was hit with some serious emotional detox; felt so empty and cold and miserable. I just rode it out the best I could, curled up in a ball in bed...then I realized that...I essentially needed to move around!

So I put on some Shpongle (wonderful crazy psychedelic dance music) and ZAM it was like I was on top of the freaking world again! I lifted weights, danced around and went to TOWN on my drum, just losing myself to the beats!

The music SAVED MY FAST - no joke. Got my energy flowing and moving UP UP UP again.

Oh my goodness!!!! Our juicer arrived!!! We were so excited that we sat on the floor and tore it out of its box like we were kids that got a present from santa for the first time. Hee hee.... Then we proceeded to make orange juice (my fav ever!!!), apple juice.... soo yummy, carrot juice (taste just like carrots) and cucumber juice (seems like it'd be a great addition to other flavors). I'm going to juice a melon in the morning for breakfast.

Wow... we're really starting this. I'm soo excited. And my goodness does it take a lot of oranges to make a quart.... The dogs LOVE the pulp though :D

So we'll see how tomorrow fairs and adjust amounts accordingly. I really want to add berries to everything though! I don't know why. Berries and oranges?

Hee hee.

Hallo everyone! Dave and I are joining ya!

Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in a few days but I've been reading the thread.

I had to go to the Dr. on Monday because I've been having issues with my period. I had it almost the whole month of July. Haven't had it yet in August though. I had endometriosis a few years ago and had surgery to remove lots and lots of scar tissue. (had one lump the size of a softball in there!!). So when I had an ultrasound a few weeks ago they said I had a cycst. I need to have an endo biposy tomorrow and had to start taking antibiotics Monday - only for 3 days. I have to take it with food or it upsets my stomache.

I don't remember the last time I took antibiotics - it's been years and years. I don't like meds and I'm sure many of you don't either but he said I had to take them before the procedure I am having on Wednesday and I have to figure out what is going on with me. So I've been kind of fasting but then I eat to take the meds 2x a day. Been sticking to salads with avocado dressing. I've also had some fruit here and there.

After Wednesday I am back to fasting. Moth had a great idea about the music. Thanks, will try that. Today I am still feeling like crying all day. One little thing upsets me and that's it for the day. I hate being like this. Plus now I'll have to really detox to get those antibiotics out of my system!

Thanks everyone for letting me vent here. Have a great day.

I'm sending you good energy. =] If you feel like crying, cry. Let it all out, even if you have to excuse yourself from company or go to the bathroom at work. Then go for a lil walk afterwards. You'll feel soo much better. Emotions have a physical mass and when we don't let them out when they want, they cause blockages, stress, muscle aches and a bunch of bad stuff. But if you embrace them, accept that you are feeling them, and then let them go... you can release them. Aleesha had a great blog post here (http://aleeshasrawlife.blogspot.com/2008/07/fasting-goal.html). I think it is a great representation of what I'm trying to say. Aleesha, I hope you don't mind me sharing that.

I send you determination for your healing.

To check in:
Melon juice is soooooo yummy! Dave and I shared a melon juice for breakfast and then I'm sticking to orange juice for the rest of the day. I still want berries and pineapple though. I need to go get pineapples.

Have a great day everyone!

Your post brought tears to my eyes. I do go to the gym almost every night and that does help.

Just want you to know that I do read Aleesha's blog. She's wonderful.

Thanks for sending your great energy. I can't wait to hear more about your new juicer and all of the recipes you come up with. Happy juicing!

and green diva... remember your signature. "empty yourself and the universe will fill you"... let those tears out (snow i loooove the way you shared about this)... and release.

i like to slowly whisper to myself... softer and softer as i say it over and over...

"release...... release....... release...... "

kinda makes me feel like my mommie is whispering in my ear and i'm a baby. very soothing and healing. perhaps, if you are awake during your treatment you could try doing that as well. just letting the cyst know you are ready willing and able to release it now. you don't need it anymore.

our bodies are so magickal, truly blows me away what they can do on their own, if given permission to do so.

snow, my dogs love the pulp from my juices. especially cucumber. now as a treat, i cut up cukes and toss them in the air and they catch them LOL they are becoming total veggie dogs (although they do get raw meat daily as well - i'm just saying they love their veggie now too).

yesterday after making my hubby's green smoothie, i put theirs in a bowl and watched them. all 4 of them took turns licking some up, stepped aside for the next one and then all took one more turn. so beautiful to watch especially since after my friend died recently and we took in his dog... his dog was NOT a sharing dog - he wanted it all - and one of my dogs wanted to kill him LOL - how amazing to watch them today.

i'm about to go get myself some coconut mylk (juice) and other than that... i have no idea what i'm doing today other than taking it easy.

i want to stop for a moment and thank you. i so appreciate you trusting me to share your fasting experience with me. i soooo appreciate you sharing in my experience by supporting me through your posts. your words keep me focused and remind me of things i want to work on for my Self. so thank you... *whispers softly* thank you... thank you... thank you...

hi everyone. i did break my fast a few days ago... felt like it was time. i'll update the feast/fast breaking thread with a bit more but all is well.

glad to see you're all doing well and to see some new lovely energy on this board - congratulations on the new juicer snownoir and dave! also glad to see the poop talk - aleesha you should really start a poop thread for solid eaters once you break your fast. :eek: then people will have to listen to you.

i'll be stopping in to cheer you all on. :)

TOMATO AND CURRY

Oh myyyyyyyyyyyyy oh my oh my oh my. I have seriously started something new for myself.

You all know how much I loooooove my tomato juice daily. Soooo good for your skin... sooooo good for your skin.

Anyway, I decided to really add a LOT of curry today... oh baby am I in heaven right now!!!

In the bottom of the bowl:

kelp powder
onion powder (or you could juice a little onion) - we don't eat onions so i don't have em to juice
garlic powder
curry
curry
curry
cayenne
more curry
add some more cayenne LOL you get the idea right? spice this puppy UP!!!

and then get a spoon and enJOY... really really enJOY it.

my belly is doing a happy happy joy joy dance right now. oooooohhh aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh i feel like i just came home from a huge pig out at my favourite thai restaurant... mmmm soooooooooooo good.

oh and don't forget the curry *giggles and runs from the room*

Your enthusiasm for fasting is magnetic! You help keep me motivated with your positivity.

When I woke up this morning I vomited toxic froth and spent about 30 minutes sitting on the toilet, praying for the horrific pains in my gut to pass; chanting mantras to myself and deep breathing - and they did pass- right into the bowl. Afterwards, I feel like I had the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE. I had to work, and I was a little nervous because I work at Whole Foods (floral), next to produce. But I was not tempted at all; in fact, today it felt like I was immune to food. I cut up oranges for my girlfriend and it was like they didn't exist to me. I feel so great right now. Everything is shining. Work was AWESOME and I went on a nature walk today too, though the forest, examining every interesting plant or piece of wildlife I came across. I now think I'm gonna take daily trips to the forest. I felt SOOO AT PEACE there.

I felt so wonderful, did I say that already?! :) My energy levels fluctuated, but when they were up, WOWOWOW, I was zinging!

I love you guys...thanks for helping to support.

Well. We made it a day! Haa haa... It wasn't that bad until about 5 then I got really hungry but Dave and I went straight home and just juiced for today and tasted a few things to see what combo's we might like. Today is pineapple/orange/blackberry. Watermelon for breakfast, though I'm not really feeling it.....

I'm concerned about my desire to only juice fruit. I plan on following Aleesha on this and just listen to my body and what it wants. If it wants green juice (which I don't like) then I'll have it, but mainly it just wants fruit juice. And kelp. I always want kelp. When you add supplements like kelp granules, spirulina or bee pollen, do you just mix it in right before drinking your juice?

Yesterday, a very interesting thing happened. Generally after a yoga session I want to cry and have been working on allowing myself to. But yesterday that desire came during class. So I acknowledged the need for my soul to cry and welcomed the tears. Next thing I knew, that feeling internalized and I felt myself weep on the inside. It was a very interesting feeling and I wanted to sleep afterwards. There was a release of something. Yoga is really tough for me...

Last night while making juice for today I kept feeling a muscle memory of my hand bringing food I'm cuttin up to my mouth. It was almost disturbing and would bring me to pause. I realized that it wasn't a desire to eat solid food, at least this is my conclusion at the moment, it was simply habit. Eating has become habitual. Putting food in my mouth is simply habitual. There was very little "I want to eat that" temptation yesterday. If fact, that didn't happen at all I think. There was the "that would taste good, that smells good," and I really wanted a superfood smoothie, but I didn't want any cooked foods or raw foods really. Its a very fleeting desire, almost like my consciousness desires to fulfill this muscle memory and then remembers that it asked me to fast in the first place and thus lets it go. I'm sure it will get harder as time goes on but as of now, I feel a peace with my detachment with solid food.

However, today I've found that I have no desire to drink juices. They were all glamorous last night, but today... not so much. I just want kelp. And water. And tea.

I like to talk about poo too. :)

Green Diva: Still sending you smiles
Beckx: thank you! And congrats on your journey. I hope you got from it what you hoped and more.
Aleesha: that sounds soo good! Who knew soups could be considered juice fasting. :D All my toms are ripening now too, so I think I'm going to try that tonight.
Moth: My goodness!!! I'm soo glad you got that out of you. I want that peace to continue with you today. Feel it, be it. :)

Catching up on the posting.... and saying hello to everyone and wishing you a very Terrific Thursday today...

On the poop front. I finally had a movement and it was what I like to call peanut butter poop (just had to add the color:D )...you know the kind of stuff that you need a chisel for...that's the kind of poop that you know has been literally "sticking" around forever. I am praying for at least 2 more of those big jobs....it's the kind of job that literally makes you feel lighter on your feet. It is a workout...slow and steady wins the race with this kind of poop..(picture me rocking gently side-to-side and front-to-back to help the exit process - picture me saying "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can")- what a DUMP and I do mean dump- one of those jobs that boggles your mind to figure out how all that stuff stayed in there so long. I can't wait for my colonics series next month; I miss my colonics-which is strange to hear myself say outloud....

Check out this sign (courtesy of scarlettcat from flickr)-I should have squatted on the toilet like the figure on the left-by the way, I'm buying one of those "toilet squatting thingies" (since I can't remember the name of the brand I'm getting had to call it that)...

Can you all imagine for a moment how much of this stuff we might have in us-that's for those of you who were former SAD and junkfood eaters like me? I can definitely believe we have tons of this stuff stuck in us and I know it's not going to happen overnight, or in 30 days, or even 100, not when you have a long-time history of junking it...but it will happen. Thank God we are all in the know - KNOWLEDGE IS POWER...might seem strange but when I drink a juice drink I sometimes visualize it being similar to DRANO - but in a good way, chiseling away junk and leaving behind nutrients that will keep it working long after it has passed through my system....

Okay, that's it on the poop front for now...love yourselves

Well, I'll have an "last edited" note because I just had to add that this morning when I first got up I was sooooooo sluggish (in hindsight, it was all that old peanut working itself through my system..because now I am zipping and more alert)... That's what I'm talking about.

Just wanted to note that I've only had water....I haven't had a chance to get my MC drinks going yet because I just had another one...

Hooray for elimination...

Off to drink some MC...it's really going to be hard to - whoops let me re-state that because we have power in our words....trying to get to the end of this month will be challenging but in a good way, doing the MC is not the problem-that part is easy...I just can't stop thinking about all the fruits that will be going out of season soon....

Well anyway, happy fasting and juicing and feasting to everyone....

wow lots to catch up on:

first and foremost... my tomato soup was juice... i just spice it up like soup to give me a different experience... but i am only using the juice, no pulp.

*just in case that was missed from my original post*

Moth, that is exactly why I love fasting. The feelings you experienced... that's IT! You get sooo many of those fasting... so different from 'good days' when you are eating. Hard to describe the difference but when you feel it... you KNOW you want more! Congrats!!!

Snow, Try adding spirulina to your pineapple juice... and I have no idea how you would take other supplements... I guess however you want to? I don't do 'em so I have no idea.

That "muscle memory" you are experiencing... that's what I went through the first time I fasted... it's amazing when you find yourself letting go of that... at least it was for me.

On days when I don't feel like juicing... I don't. I do water. Often by the end of the day my body wants juice... and so then I drink it. Other days... just water till the next day. ;) It's nice to see your connection to 'self' is so strong already Snow. You yoga experience sounded magickal and beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us. (((hugs)))

Lav, what a great post... well posts! I love how descriptive you were. Made me feel like I was right there with ya... just without the smell LOL

Have you thought about buying a bunch of fruit, tossing them into ziploc baggies and freezing them and then thawing and juicing them when you are done your MC? Just a thought that came to me.

Well, I woke up feeling horrid. Had a not great night, woke up with a headache from crying in my dreams all night long (and detox no doubt) and so I took some CS to assist my bowels to keep moving along. I notice whenever I'm emotionally upset my bowels shut down... so --- with all this emotion coming out of me (still grieving my friend)... I wanted some assistance to keep things moving out.

I plan on having a quiet day... feel sooooo teary today. So sad. Intensely overwhelmingly sad. Every muscle in my body exhausted sad.

So on that note... I'll go meditate. I love you all. This thread is so motivating for me... thank you so much for keeping it alive! (((hugs)))

Thank you for the support ladies. I let the tears flow and went to bed early. Slept pretty well. Lavender huh, I did put some of that on this morning. I'm sure it will help. I went through a big cleansing yesterday. I did a Tapas Accupressure session to heal the arachnophobia I had and there was some realignment that went on and I think that was part of it.

Its such an interesting experience. Day 4. =] We're very proud of ourselves. Recognizing the attachments to food we have is quite an interesting movement of growth.

Aleesha... I sent you a few hugs the past few days (I hope you felt them)

Has anyone noticed a sectioning of your consciousness? Being able to do your daily tasks but them realizing that your attention was one certain thoughts instead? Almost like you're working from muscle memory? This happens to me at work. I'm just going through the motions of my job and find my mind elsewhere. I need an mp3 player so I can listen to books on tape or something... or just let my mind wander. Its almost meditative. Dave is moving something out of his arm right now...

This is fun. :D

Thanks everyone!

Ps. Dave just juiced some strawberries and its sooo yummy!!! We're gonna go grab some lemons and make strawberry lemonade. :D

And Aleesha, your "soup" (I know its just juice) has been great for us at night!! It satisfies our "dinner" desire but its still juice and we get loads of greens in it. We use tomatoes, cilantro, parsley, celery, bell pepper, garlic, hot pepper, and sometimes onion. All ran through the juicer, then strained then into a bowl that has curry powder a lil salt and cumin powder and kelp granules and then we add a lil warm water and drink it from a spoon!!

And kale and orange and blood orange and pineapple is amazing!

we are getting so much done around the house... i'm thrilled.

i stopped in at a juice bar while we were out and got myself a green juice. they were out of wheatgrass so i got apple/celery/spinach/parsley.

man oh man does my body NOT want green juice right now. within about 10 minutes... it was saying "what the heck did you just give me???"

so i'll stick with fruit for awhile longer before attempting greens again. my body keeps saying 'no' to greens at the store and even said no when i ordered my juice but i did anyway cause i wanted to make sure (since i've been doing fruit juices for 29 days now) that it didn't NEED greens. the answer is... nope it didn't. i'll listen next time LOL

Its day 5. Can't believe it. We're both rather irritable today. Light headed but we just made an orange/kale/strawberry juice. Watered it down a lil and are sipping on that right now.

I'm glad to hear that you've been doing all fruit juice. My body hasn't really been desiring anything but fruit juice as well (minus kelp, but I realized that was because I was about to start my period). Have you ever had any candida brought on by too much fruit juice?

Hi Everyone.

I've had a crazy busy weekend. So today I've decided to do the MC for a few days. I really want to fast and detox and I think if I do this for a few days it will get me back on track to a juice fast. Besides, I get paid bi-weekly and I'm a little broke right now but do have MC ingredients.

I am off of those awful antibiotics (only had to take them for 3 days but need to get them out of my system, blech) and ready to start fresh.

RawDancer - I also have a cycst or 2 and some other things going on, hope you get well soon.

Aleesha - Congrats on your anniversary.

Snow - you're dong great!

Lav - keep up the good work!

Have a juicy day everyone!

Finally back

have ovarian cysts , so been in and out of the hospital the past couple weeks, treating me and taking tramadol for the pain. Got to back in 3 months to check they are gone.

Finally feeling back to normal and the pain isnt anywhere near as bad as it was.

Back to MC today, ordered various lax teas.. bit confused about what time to drink them at considering I need to leave the house at 6.30am.. any ideas? Should I drink the lax tea early evening to avoid any accidents:eek:

Anyways good to be back :o

The times I have done a detox/lax tea, I make sure to drink it around 6p. It works all night, does it's thing in the early morning around 5:30-7a and I'm fine the rest of the day.

You may want to try with the timings on a weekend to see what works best for you....good luck!

I agree with Raine... I'd do it in the evening as well. How is your migraine? Gone I hope. (((hugs)))

Green Diva, I'm so glad you are off the antibiotics... *clink clink*

I'm having the best day. Picked up some kick a$$ cayenne today... the really hot stuff... and the hottest curry and paprika I could get... can't wait for my tomato juice tonight!!!
