I bought a 2lb bag of cacoa powder and it arrived yesterday. I left it in on my counter and left for a little bit and when I came back my dog had the 2lb bag on the floor and it scattered everywhere! I am not sure how much he ate. My question is raw cacoa powder bad for dogs like chocolate is? He seems to be fine last night and this morning but did want me to let him out at 1 am last night! He ate his breakfast fine this morning also.

Thanks!

Kim

Yikes....I don't know. I hope first of all that your dog is alright...I'd think you'd know by now if it was going to hurt him, so I bet he's fine. How disappointing to have your cacoa powder everywhere.

please let us know what your vet says. i know it's chocolate...just curious if raw cacao minus the sugar and everything else in processed milk & dark chocolates has the same impact on the same scale. hope your dog is okay!

Thanks everyone for your concern. I called my vet and she said since he seemed ok to just keep an eye on him (although kind of hard when i am at work right now). She said by this morning he would have digested it already also and she really didn't think it would be a problem. My dog is about 60lbs so she said he should be ok becuase he would have to ingest alot. It looked like he mostly spread it through the house and didn't eat very much but it is hard to tell. I will let you know if anythign changes! I am keeping fingers crossed as i can't lose another dog right now. I lost my Rottie last August to bloat and that was hard! He was my baby!

Try and go home early to check on your doggie. I would hold a piece out and keep a hold on it so he doesn't eat it. And see if he tries to eat it. If he doesn't..then maybe he didn't eat any. I would have also collected all the cacao and weighed it to see if it weighed 2 pounds. If it does then you know he just scattered it and didn't eat it. He might have pulled it down and it broke and he decided it was yukky.

He is a big guy so he should be ok. If he went outside and had a tummy ache..he will prolly eat grass which makes them throw up.

Please keep us informed. We are so worried.

i came home from work and he was just fine. He met me at the door as usual and is running around and acting normal. I think we are safe! He would have shown symptoms by now. I am guessing he tasted it and didn't like it to much and just had fun tossing it around the house. It is so nice to see support here! I have been MIA for quite some time. I fell off the raw food wagon and am now starting it up again. I am on day 4 and feel great! I am shooting for 100% for 30 days and we will see how it goes. I will be up in the mountains on vacation for a long weekend and it will be a real test how much I can stick to raw!

Thanks everyone for your support!

Kim
