Just wondering if you need a special business license or special permit for handling food and teaching others in your home. I live in NY so the requirements might be different for me here but was just wondering if there is something that needs to be done to be a legit business,as well as a tax id ,etc??

I signed up to take the 5 day course in Maine and am soooo excited but was just curious and of course Im just trying to keep my mind busy until I go in Oct,lol
thanks for any advice

It varies, you've got to check with your local board of health. Food education is the focus, rather than being like a restaurant or food service, and that can make a big difference. In the town I lived in, on Martha's Vineyard, it was not required to have a permit because of that -- but food WAS allowed to be shared and provided.

I could have gotten a food handlers' license for that. I actually had one from restaurant experience in the past, but it had probably expired. They're pretty quick and easy to get.

Soooo, check with them and in the meantime, make some fun recipes! Make as much food as you can, and just keep learning. And share your recipes with others. Can't think of anything else as you'll learn some stuff there, albeit general. A lot of life stuff too.
