View Full Version : Why mostly women post here and not guys?

I'm curious if raw food preperation is mostly a "woman" thing? I notice mostly women post here.

Another thing, I think I must be having my "male period" today. Gheewhizz, I sent two e-mails chewing out my ex because our 15 year old daughter gets upset if I ask her what she's been doing lately, her boy friend hardly says Boo to me unless I say Boo to him and my daughter's girlfriend won't say anything to me anymore unless I start out by saying "Hi" to her. I mean this from a girl that has grown up with my daughter, and who I've paid for movies, dinners, and paid for things at Clairs etc when they forgot their money. And now I get no respect.

I told my ex I was now not giving my car to my daughter, that she can go out and get a job and buy one herself.

I sent an email to my twin telling him every time I call him he complains that I called when he is doing something. So I told him I'm not calling any more; that he can call if he wants to talk.

I had a nice enjoyable juicy Gaila apple this morning followed by half an avocaldo and half a slice of pizza about an hour later. Yet I still feel so saddened by people who probably could care less if I had a heart attack and died today.

I don't think it's a "woman" thing as opposed to a "man" thing. It's a "life" thing! Don't have an answer as to why more women post though...sorry...

Drink a green smoothie and relax. It's all okay... ;)

MrGreenJeans...I also had quite a crapp day. Emotionally ...My father lives in a relationship where he canīt do anything without asking Sauron (thats the nickname I call his hysterically woman that he lives with :D )

Itīs so tragic because he spend alot of time with me and my brother before my parents got a divorce and now 8 years after he still donīt have anything to say about what he wants. So I feel kind of shitty and unwanted today.

You are not alone

Actually, it seems (and I've seen studies on this) that men do usually don't the "preventive care" thing for their health, while women do, almost obsessivly! It seems like men think they should be "manly" enough to handle diseases and ailments and shouldn't have to care about their health as it would be demasculating to do so. Present company excludued, of course! That's the impression that I get.

I find that men are usually the ones thinking "I'm a MAN...I need MEAT!" so that's my answer to why women are on the board more, but not necessarily the preparation section. Not sure...

Probably most men are being given their green smoothies and raw food from the women who talk on here.

Most don't want to bother with "communication" they just want us to talk about it and let them know what to do.

Hand them a green smoothie and they will drink it and not bother with the details. "Is it good for me..that's all I need to know"..is what you will hear them say.

My husband does reasearch on stuff like football and politics. He fills me in on that stuff and I fill him in on the raw stuff.

His name for us...."squakin broads"..especailly that Alissa Cohen video..he calls that one 'squakin broads' and it just kinda stuck.

Sorry about your bad times with your kids and ex Greenjeans, parenting can be a thankless job. Do stuff for yourself...get involved in something in the community. I noticed when I have more stuff going on in my life for me..I tend to have less of a problem with what everyone else is doing.

.... I still feel so saddened by people who probably could care less if I had a heart attack and died today.

Drop those people and make new friends and relatives. It's what I did.

Ummm, they "couldn't care less".. well, maybe they could but they're not telling you.

I read this board daily, but I don't post very much because I don't think I really have anything to add. I haven't gotten into make any recipes yet. I eat alot of fruit, berries, and salads. I really need to get into green smoothies I guess.

You probably need to start some more threads Mr. GreenJeans, that way you could get some positive feedback from this community.

I always enjoy your posts, it's refreshing to hear from a guy's point of view. And my hubby leave the food prep to me, so yep, I hand him his smoothie or carrot juice or whatever and he drinks it and I have all the fruit and veggies ready so all he has to do is pack his lunch and go, etc. I don't know what he would do if I fell off the face of the earth, he'd probably be hanging out here with you ... Mr. Greenjeans :D .

I'm curious if raw food preperation is mostly a "woman" thing? I notice mostly women post here.

You took the words right out of my mouth. When I joined this list back in March, I too noticed I was in a sea of estrogen. I've wondered about this myself. A lot of women seem to initially use raw food to loose weight. We have a Weight Watchers group that meets at my workplace - and the ratio is about ten women for every man.

Most teenagers will not like you very much Mr Green Jeans. haha. I know three that loved me as toddlers and young people, but now I'm an adult and they think I'm from another planet. I'm just not COOl anymore. haha. I'm waiting to talk to them again after they're twenty! I know you can't do that with your daughter, but just wanted to say I understand and I think it's a natural progression for teens to go through their stages and not want anything to do with those "other people".

I agree with veganforlife, it's a life thing but generally us ladies love to talk, it's wired into our brains. From a purely biological standpoint, it's how we bond with one another. I can talk to my best friend on the phone for 5-6 hours and we have done that when we were long distance. I don't think I've ever done that with a male friend or partner.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, I just think women tend to work through problems and seek out answers through talking and mulling things over ALOT. Maybe sometimes too much. There are plenty of men who do this too of course, so I'm not trying to generalize. But it could be why you see so much of that on this board. I've visited other raw boards that seem to have a greater amount of male posters, so maybe it's just like attracts like. There could be many reasons.

I have let go of a lot of people in my life (for the better). Friends come and go. Your true friends are with you for life though. Something that has worked for me was to focus on loving myself and also send my loved ones good thoughts...see how I'd like the relationship to be. I visualize a lot. Sure enough with some of my loved ones, our relationships have been enhanced because they pick up on the love and how I see them - in a positive light. Um, I'm starting to get into metaphysics and I'm not sure you're into it, so I'll wrap it up. I'm just sharing that when I turned it around and stopped putting myself in the nobody loves me camp and instead started seeing myself surrounded by loving friends etc, my world changed.

Huge hugs to you. XXXXX. I don't believe that you don't have love around you -- there are plenty of people who care about what happens to you in this world. :)

Thank your stars it's a sea of estrogen. Do you know how hard it is to get through a wall of testosterone? I know. I have four grandguys and one grandgirl (all from the same Mom - my daughter) LOL! Just messin' wit cha!!!! :D

My boyfriend is raw and he prepares raw food. Better than me! He's just not a big chatter and I don't think he's ever posted on a raw board or gone to a raw food potluck in our city. Just not his style.

I don't think becoming a raw foodist is solely geared towards losing weight for women necessarily. I know many who have gravitated to raw foods for health reasons or simply to become healthier. This is the case with myself. Losing weight was a benefit, but regaining my health and the mobility to be able to walk was the driving force for me. Certainly you're correct also that many people, men and women, use raw foods to lose weight but I just wanted to point out not all.

I really do think it's about how men and women communicate which dictates the traffic you'll see on some boards and forums, and in life really. We communicate differently generally and in some cases there are exceptions. I know of two other raw food boards that have a great deal of male posters and their conversations tend to be more scientific in nature and focused on the science of eating. I enjoy their conversations and train of thought as well, but sometimes I need support. The support they give at times is maybe a sentence or two worth of advice. LOL. On this board, I think the energy is geared more towards support and hey where there's support, you'll find a lot of ladies. :D Like bees to honey. The word "support" probably has many definitions amongst men and women even and we could probably expand on that further. The guys on the other boards probably think they are being very helpful and they are. It's just that I think women tend to like to turn things over and look at subject matter from many different angles. Just my opinion and based on my viewing lens as a woman. I'm sure others have more insight based on their own experience and how they see it.

I'm glad you're here...please stay! It's always nice to have balance and a male perspective on things.

TEENAGERS!
They just start thinking we are STUPID usually around 13 - 16 years old. That goes on until they are in their 20's. Mine we're about 22 y/o or 24 y/o when they finally stopped rolling their eyes or needing to leave when I started talking. LOL! I know it's not funny now but, it will be. Try not to take it personally it's just that phase of them finding their Independence and their own Mind about things. But, do have RULES!
I've had divorce a couple of family members. Just because they are blood doesn't mean I have to tolerate them.

I was not a very nice teenager. I kicked the Christmas tree over one year. But I am nice now. :D

Give them time, space, and support and they will come around.

I also wanted to put my 2cents about teenagers.

Don't take it personally because it isn't about you. I remember as a teenager I was extremely intimidated by my friends' parents because I think a lot of teens feel like they are pitted against adults in general and have a lack of trust in them. I was thinking back and I seriously probably never talked to any of my friends parents unless they spoke first and then it was minimal. Relax about it, I grew out of it and I'm sure they will, too. Just be friendly and loving so when they're ready to crawl out of their teenage world you haven't ruined the relationship w/ them.

I must say I agree w/ having your daughter work and get her own car. A car is not an entitlement, although most teens will try to convince you it is, ha, ha.

Best wishes!

Hi there MrGreenJeans! Sorry to hear about your bad day! We all have them!
You are right that we don't have many guys here, so don't go away! We need all the guys perspective that we can get!
As for teen agers, the goal is to maintain a loving relationship until they become sane again. Don't let yourself be walked on, but do remember that they are temporarily insane with hormones, peer pressure and the hard job of creating a self. They are supposed to seperate from us to a degree. Remember the two's and three's when they needed you, but had to do everything themselves? It's very much like that all over again. If we can make them know that we love them, they will come around!
Don't forget to take very good care of yourself!!!
Best wishes!

I got a good laught reading this, lol..... You know, i did work to pay my first car and this is a great feeling. It may not be a bad idea to encourage her to stard working and she cans have a sense of value with money and also pride.

Not much insight for you for my little one is still a toddler different but i guess i will enjoy the time while she still see me as funny, etc......

This is great to see men posting and opening up with their health. My husband is the one that introduced me to raw food so you aren't alone. It is true that i am the one visiting this place but again who cares the gender as long we share thing in common.

Thank you for posting

My husband once read a study that men use about 5,000 words in a day and women use about 25,000 words in a day. This may account for all us women on here using our words :D .

It seems to me that men are invincible untill they have a heart attack or some other earth-shattering news that makes them turn their habits on a dime....teflon poisoning for example :p

As for people, I have been trying something out with some success. I Act like they like me. Sometimes it works....usually takes a number of runs though. I find when I do this and they Don't actually like me they emphasize it almost to say it louder cuz you aren't getting the msg.....good way to test it out.

And you know what, if you're not floating their boat, oh well....so long as your successfully maintaining some friendships than that tells you that it's not something your doing, otherwise you'd be being shunned by everyone.

Just because people post under a female indentity, doesn't make it so. If you can't actually see the poster, you don't really know for sure whether they are male or female.....right??

This IS the most feminine board I've been on! Do you frequent other boards too?

I would do spiritual cleansing to rid yourself of any negativity that you might have picked up that might be setting people off. Or try a wiccan spell ;) not that it will of itself do anything but it will reprogram YOU, like an affirmation.

This is only an example, you really have to write your own spells for them to work right:
http://www.everythingunderthemoon.net/spells/attract_new_friend.htm
During the waxing phase of the moon, light 3 brown candles. On a sheet of paper, write down the attributes you want this new friend to have. Speak each one out loud. When you are done, fold the paper in half twice. Light the edge of the folded paper with one of the candles and repeat this incantation:

With heart and mind I do now speak

Bring to me the one I seek.

Let this paper be the guide

And bring this friend to my side.

Pain and loneliness be no more

Draw a compatriot to my door.

With pleasures many and sorrows few

Let us build a friendship new.

Let not this simple spell coerce

Or make my situation worse.

As I will it, it shall be.

Let the paper burn out then snuff the candles. Within the next few weeks, you should meet someone with some or all of the qualities you seek.

Teenagers: From what I remember about being that age and also what I see from my boyfriend's kids, they don't look past the surface much. Your exterior is "boring" and your life is "boring" and there's nothing much to know about you. I once pointed out to I~~ (BF's daughter) that if she didn't want to be the object of all our questions, she could turn the conversation around and ask us questions. She said there was nothing she could imagine wanting to know about us.

There were a few adults that I regarded as cool and interesting when I was a teen, and I remember thinking that they were exceptions. And it bothered me as I realized that the externals of their lives -- physical appearance, how they lived -- weren't much different from the adults I had contempt for.

Hang in there Mr. Greenjeans, you'll be a human being again ... when the youngun's grow up.

Hang in there MrGreenJeans!
51 year old male here. I haven't posted much but enjoy checking out this forum and a few others.

I am the obsessive one about health in my family.
I have always been into health and fitness and strive to avoid all the chronic and acute illnesses 99.9% of the population has. I am into bodybuilding as well. I am 6ft tall and weigh 175 lbs. About the same as I did when I was 18.

Overall, I would say I am 90% raw but am aiming for 99%. I don't think I'll ever be totally 100%. My wife has never been much into fitness or health but enjoys the raw smoothies I make for her to take to work every morning. She now also eats much more raw fruit and veggies as she has learned that eating raw does have a profound effect on the way she feels. I have even gotten her into weightlifting. My 13 year old daughter loves fruit smoothies and I make sure she eats lots of salads and fresh fruit. She would eat pasta daily if I let her.

As for the men need meat thing...I used to think that many years ago. Now I believe it is much more masculine and macho to be a fit, well muscled, energetic and full of life male, rather than look like you are 8 months pregnant and spend your weekends on the couch guzzling beer. I can kick the butt of most of my meat eating friends (a couple are 15 years younger than me) in pretty well any athletic activity.

Continue to fight the good fight MrGreenJeans!

I have to agree with everyone about the women being more talkative though. Not many men talk alot.. I've only met ONE guy who I can sit and talk to for hours...

The teenager thing is a phase. I'm 28 and I remember being annoyed when my mother would try to tell me stuff and since I was around 21 or so I started asking for her opinion because I realized she was just as smart as she said she was. :)
As far as the people in your life, they either are taking you for granted or extremely busy. I doubt they could care less though because I cared a lot about a lot of people in my life even though I wouldn't answer the phone when they called because I was busy working and it would take days for me to get back to them etc.. If you really believe they don't care then find someone else and don't worry so much about those who don't bother with you.
I'm having a hard time and I often just refer to this board for support or the positivity of reading about how raw can make me better even though I haven't gotten there yet. It does help a lot to read everyones's posts here.

I think a woman's body have certain cravings that a man does not. Maybe it is due to the fac t that a woman's body was created to make babies. And one can't have a healthy fetus, or milk without having a nutritious diet.

I feel that women feel physical imbalance of the body when she is not having her vegetables and fruit within a few days of eating bad, while men can just eat meat and potatos until their bodies can't take it no more. And when that day happens, their bodies are so messed up that it is definately hard for them to give up the meat and potato habit and they are close to death anyways.

I think this biological. I believe that men needed meat and lots of carbs in order to work hard in the fields, or to have stamina during droughts while hunting.

For whatever reason, men just love their meat and crave it like crazy.

Yeah, I'm on a dog forum too and I think there are probably 600 women members and like 4 men...seriously and I think I have only seen posts from one of them! That forum has a similar spirit--everyone is very friendly and very supportive. I think it is true that women just need to communicate and especially with each other. I had a friend who I worked with for an 8 hour shift and we would get home and she would call me and we would talk for another hour or so. In the morning, we would call each other and I would go over to her house for coffee and we'd sit there for another couple of hours BS'ing. Of course, that was when I really had no one else in my life and I was traveling for my job, but still, we just couldn't stop talking with each other!! I talk to my mom a couple times a week and pretty much every time we talk, it's like a good hour--it's kind of funny because we're really just chatting usually about nothing! Anyway, I really become addicted to these kinds of forums, where the people are really cool, knowledgeable, friendly and supportive.

Other than that, I agree that I think women are just more in tune with health and nutrition for the most part--not that there aren't men out there who are, but I don't know, it just seems to be something that women are more interested in for some reason. But I like hearing about the guys who are into raw so that I can convince my fiance that he needs to be eating this way too!

Anyway, Mr Greenjeans, stay here and keep chatting--it is nice to have a guy's opinion!
