Okeedokee, I guess it's about time I checked in to list what I ate since my last post which must have been breakfast.
2 snacks: about 1/2 cup of raw trail mix
a delicious "Best Ever Raw Coffee"
A very late supper of last night's salad with "Rhonda"s Favorite Salad Dressing" - recipe somewhere on this forum
A small piece of raw blueberry pie (Alissa's) a bit blah - maybe I will learn how to tweak it.
Jenifae - your food sounds great - you must have needed to take it easy today. Your body just wants to savor all that yummy stuff you are introducing to it - it can't believe you are treating it so well!:D
Please feel free to come on over and help me eat this blueberry pie! Since it's raw, I know I will have to eat it up fairly quickly as it won't keep. Nothing special about it though. But, you know, I don't mind. I love the way the food makes me feel and that is good enough for me. I will simply keep trying new recipes and keep eating raw as it is so satisfying. Afterall it will take a while to get used to tasting this food as it isn't the greasy, sugary sweet junk that our tastebuds are used to. Please forgive me if I have neglected you in our blogs. I am just so busy and so tired. xxoo But I did have energy all day!

Ok, since my yummy breakfast I had cabbage salad for lunch, a cucumber/tomato/corn/onion salad late afternoon, and carrot/apple/lettuce/beet juice for dinner. Don't know what I did all day, probably not much but, hey, I'm retired! Feeling fantastic.

I had 2 great desserts today.
Chocolate pecans=
honey mixed w/cocoa and a bit of salt--very milk chocolately
pecans stirred in
Pumpkin Ice cream=
frozen bananas
agave
pumpkin pie spice
This is the first raw ice cream that my kids fought over=) My 10 yo son has made great leaps into raw lately--wanted a romaine salad w/ avacadoes and lime for dinner--and made it himself, loved the ice cream and asked if I would cut a watermelon for breakfast tomorrow--amazing=) I made the kids burritos recently and he asked for romaine leaves instead of tortillas!!
My husband had a big cancer/heart problem scare recently (so far he's fine) but while he was away, told me that all he has been eating is bananas and apples and granola bars--not ideal but definately on his way.
Leading by example=)>!!

Happy Wednesday! Yesterday was difficult for me - I found that I was really tired during the day and couldn't seem to get enough to eat. I work out every weekday, so I think I need to bring more food with me. The other challenge is that my office is right across from the cafeteria at work, so I smell breakfast and lunch every day. :( But I've made it through to Wednesday, so just a few more days to go!
This morning I made a smoothie with pineapple, kale, cherries and coconut oil. I forgot to put the cacao powder in, so we'll see how it tastes. I also made more watermelon soup yesterday, so I brought that for today, as well as some left over onion dip. I loaded up on fruit (apples and dates) and am planning to get a salad for lunch.
Hope you all have a great day!

thick It sounds like your kitchen is the place to be! How wonderful that your children are having fun with your food. And that your husband takes note of it too - I so hope that he does indeed follow your fine example and then I am convinced he will be truly "safe" healthwise. Think I'll try that ice cream!:)
Jenifae The exact same thing was happening with me. I'd be down 2 whole pounds and then up again -often back and forth and it got so discouraging. I felt like there must be something wrong with the scales. I just can't look at them everyday now. I think it could be salt even though the most I have is in olives. But I sprinkled some sea salt on my salad last night and it made it taste so much better. Just think it is necessary (salt, I mean) At the most,
I will weigh myself only once a wk.
Keep up the good work, little rawbie! I'll bet if we measured ourselves we'd see huge changes. I absolutely know that is true. I see collarbone, almost feel hipbones again, definition happening all over. :D

I have been slacking! I have not been posting here like I should. I go to college online and I had finals for the past couple of days! all done now! THANK GOODNESS!
my pattern for the past couple of days has been a green smoothie for breakfast, large salad for lunch and another green smoothie around dinner time. I also snacked a bit on other various fruits for quick snacks. Seems to be working!
Have a good day everyone!

A good morning to everyone. Day # 31 for me so that is day 6 in the challenge. I had a hard time falling asleep last night and even harder waking up. But now that I am up feeling better. When I was trying to walk to the potty this morning I felt like I pulled my growing or up in my where the leg bends inner thigh area. I was having a really hard time walking. But all is feeling good now and nothing a good yoga class can't stretch out.
Michelle hang in there you are doing great. I know what you mean I come into work with the smell of bacon every morning sometimes it makes me sick and others it smells good. But now my focus is I am down 20" and lost 19lbs to me that is amazing. I have never been on a eating plan diet way of life however you want to put it where I have lasted this long. The funny thing is that I feel great and eating good foods trying new recipes and liking what I am eating. I am really having fun and don't feel deprived. I am looking forward to what I can make next. Sometimes I miss sad but when I come in and everyone is telling me how great I look my hair is shinny what have I done and then my pants are getting bigger on me and I now can fit into clothes that were very tight on me or didn't fit at all. I feel good about myself and am letting people know. So stay strong you can make it.
Sasarri welcome back and hope your tests went well. What online class are you taking my niece is taking something for nutrition maybe or business. I have to say you are an inspiration to me as I saw your hw then what you are now and it gives me hope I too can do this. My hw 230 cw 211 gw 115 or tbs which is total body satifaction. Since I am older I may not look good at that weight or I may need to lose more I will see when it comes time. So now I am just concentrating on getting to 199. BTW I am 5'1" so you can see why I need to get this weight off.
There is a lady at work who was doing the raw pretty good and was loosing the weight looking good now I am now sure but she decided not to do the 100% she is trying for 70-90% but that is still better than nothing. But the choices she is making not good. I have tried to talk to her but she doesn't want to listen so I just am working on me.
I have a boxing class I do m-th and yoga mwfs if I can make it to the classes. Sometimes I can't get to all the yoga class but I do the boxing. So for the exercise part I have that all together. Now my diet is in check so I am happy.
bf strawberries, kiwi, banana, spinach, ice and water shake
l tomatoes, peppers, yellow wax beans
d I have no idea but I will be making some corn chips I have a recipe for taco meat so that will be good together.
Have a great day and keep raw.
Luv,
Rox

Islesgirl Hummmmmmmm, dont' use salt. The only salt I'm getting is on the pumpkin and sunflower seeds. They are RAw Sprouted and celtic salted. I'm thinking it might be the nuts ;) Too many that it. I'm going to try to not snack so much today and see how that works. Seems like I'm constantly putting something in my mouth.

Foxie - I go to Kaplan University online - I am studying communications! I LOVE IT! Oddly enough, I have lost a majority of my weight on the SAD diet. However, without raw, there is no way I would be able to keep it off!, I lost and then gained the same amount once before!.. Raw is the only thing keeping my steady. I am 100% sure if I went raw at the beginning of my weight loss, I would have lost faster!!! took me about 6 months to get rid of the 50lbs or so. But like I said, if I fell off the wagon and went SAD again, I would put it back on in no time! ... I eat all day raw... its only 12:11pm right now and I have eatin:
Green smoothie with 2 bananas, 1 banana, berries and spinach
a spinach salad with avocado and mango
an apple
a banana
carrots with salsa that I made
tomato salad
AND WAY MORE TO COME! LOL

Good morning to all you sweeties!
Although I only got about 3 1//2 hours of sleep last night I am beginning to wake up and enjoy the day. It is lovely outside and a bit cooler and not so humid. Maybe I'll wake up enough to get a walk in later. It is so encouraging to see your many menus and to hear how you are doing. Gotta love this so much eh?
So far today I've had:
beet, cuke and carrot juice - tasted fine (I bagged, sealed and froze the pulp)
Now I am sipping on a GS with:
1 whole pineapple, 1 frozen banana, 2T flax seeds, 1T chia seeds, 1T coconut oil, 1 cup water, bag of frozen kale from my garden (I always boast about my garden!), 1 red grapefruit. Tastes okay! Didn't even add any stevia!
Haven't figured supper out yet.

Everybody is doing so well! I am amazed those of you who work near your cafeterias can be as "above it all" as you are. Kudos! This is a great frame of mind!
deberaw--I know what you mean about the blueberry pie. and it's just a bit too...gelatinous! ;) Also, if you don't eat it in a day or two, the crust goes all soggy. I was thinking about just putting the raw blueberries in the crust, maybe tossed with a little agave & lemon or vanilla. Your vanilla cream would be great over that!
I got the results of my latest blood test; the cholesterol numbers are greatly improved! Amazing, as I am only 1 month raw! I put the exact numbers in my blog.
Last night D--chopped salad: romaine, tomato, celery, avocado, orange pepper, scallion, olives; RawKnitster's pine nut mayo dressing
S--1/2 larabar
Sleep: 6 hrs :(
Water: 96 oz :)
Today B--green smoothie: spinach, gigantic peach, strawberries, pumpkin & flax seeds, green powder
L--salad bar salad: spinach, romaine, iceberg, tomato, sprouts, strawberries, raisins, sunflower seeds; homemade honey-mustard dressing
S--I have an apple and some pecans from yesterday that I didn't eat.

Here is you laugh for the day. So at lunch time I go to a yoga class on m-w-f so today we had a he!! of a w/o. So I had some cashews earlier. Well we were having such a hard class and the sweat was just poring off me my hair is soaked like just getting out of the shower. Then I don't know at least 1/2 way through the class I started smelling a sorta familiar sweet smell  then it came to me it was like cashews. LOL At least it wasn't onions I ate!
Srsarri Thanks for the info. I don't think I have ever really lost any weight on the sad if I do it doesn't last. I feel deprived hate counting the calories or points whatever. I just don't do well. This is the best I have ever felt and I will have to say yes it is hard when everyone is eating sad but they all come and look to see what I am eating. They all love my food.
Oh I bought my 1st coconuts y/d. I have a young one you know the white ones and then I have a organic brown looking one. I wasn't really sure what to get so I got them both. Now to figure out what to do with them.
Well I think I am going to eat my tomatoes now. Have a great day.

Foxie! With the young coco...you can hack it open...do you have one of those meat cleaver knives? You just keep hacking it in a circle on top and eventually it'll open. I do believe it you look online on how to "open and young coconut" you'll also find some info and presentations. For the mature coco, you can open it too {I just stand on top of my picnic table and drop it...but I'm sure there are better ways to open it...does it have directions? some have a kind of crease around the middle and you might be able to use a tool of some sort to open it...hmmmm}.....then after dropping it...I rinse it....then take my time getting the meat out...with a butter knife...then peeling the brown off...it is tedious. BUT then you can put it in the food processor and VOILA! You have fresh coconut flakes...fresh...RAW! and there should be a lot....you can dehydrate....or better yet...make delicious macaroons...recipe should be in the recipe section of this forum! Let us know what you do!:) Deb

..p.s. please excuse my typos above!...also with the young coco...after opening....you can drink the water....or put it in a blender along with the meat that is inside...add some vanilla...a bit of ice...blend away....ohhh so yummy and good for you!

Oh I bought my 1st coconuts y/d. I have a young one you know the white ones and then I have a organic brown looking one. I wasn't really sure what to get so I got them both. Now to figure out what to do with them.
--Mature coconuts are full of fiber and that's good (although usually not necessary for raw-foodists) but they are much, much higher in calories per pound than young coconuts. So eat it slowly or turn it into flakes and spread it out on top of a raw dessert... like that blueberry pie they keep talking about here!:D
Just don't do what I did and buy a whole bunch of them on sale and then eat half a coconut per day and THEN find out they're something like 1160 calories per pound when most raw fruits and veggies are 200-300! Golly gee, I wonder if that's part of why my weight loss has been slow??
Ok, well last night I had two teenagers (one of them is a guest) keep me awake so today I'm sluggish. Have a weird pain on both sides of my lower back like a beginning kidney infection. Ate well for dinner last night (carrot/beet juice w/ some yellow snap beans thrown in just because I had extras and a jalapeno burger and a couple pieces of pineapple. Then when the girls were making too much noise I got up and made a chocolate pudding (at least it was raw! )
This morning I had more carrot/beat/bean juice and I packed flax crackers, purple carrots, some funny-looking brown dip and a couple small heads of pak choy, which I intend to eat whole. My coworkers think I'm nuts anyway, so I'm pretty sure today's lunch will confirm it!
While I was in the grocery line yesterday I was looking at people's carts and at them and feeling sorry for the kids whose parents didn't know or didn't care to feed their families better. When I got to the front of the line, my cashier, a very squishy person, scanned a 25 lb bag of juice carrots, 2 kinds of avocados, some yellow peppers, cucumbers, raw nuts, pineapples, a cantaloupe, a watermelon... and finally came across 3 cans of salmon my daughter requested. The cashier said, "finally something I could almost eat!" Gosh, now I'm really glad I got those cans!:p
I, too, am impressed with the people who can tough it through the cafeteria smells. I have a vending machine across from my desk ubt everything in it is gross. I don't actually LIKE bacon, but the smell of it would surely drive me crazy if it were close to my desk! Good willpower in this group! I have faith in all of y'all.

Supper was a simple salad with the same dressing I had yesterday (Rhonda's Favorite Salad Dressing) from this forum.
But the best part of the day was dessert! I read RawKnitster's comment about making some raw whipped cream to go with the Blueberry Pie and that is just what I did and I can't believe the difference. So at the moment I am slowly savoring this now delicious raw pie. It looks yummy and tastes so much better. I am so happy with raw food - I keep repeating myself, I know, but I can't help it. I am so thankful to Alissa for sharing her invaluable knowledge of RAW with anyone who wants to learn.:) Did you all have a good day?

Another beautiful day in paradise. Blue sky, sunshine, about 70 degrees with a light breeze off the ocean. Life is good!
This morning I started with my warm lemon water to clean my liver. Breakfast was a whole cantaloupe. After walking Max for 45 minutes, I had a mushie (smoothie too thick to drink) of (almost) 3 bananas, a grapefruit, and half a head of escarole. It was quite bitter, which along with extremely hot/spicy is a favorite taste of mine. Over the course of the afternoon I also had 2 clementines and 2 mini avocados topped with lots of Asian chili sauce (not at the same time). Dinner? Who knows. It will be something delicious. I have some mung beans sprouting along with wheat berries. Don't know yet what to make with it, but probably dust off the Excalibur and try my hand at bread/cracker making. I'm also sprouting some spicy sprouting mix and some broccoli seeds. They'll all be ready in a few days. I have to start using up all the seeds and grains I have in my cupboard to save some money. I live on retirement so can't splurge too much, but earlier today I ordered a manual wheat grass juicer and a spiral slicer. Can't wait to make my own zucchini spaghetti.
I'm so happy I have found this forum. You are all so inspiring. I can't imagine having to cook SAD food for a family while eating raw myself. All the extra work. One can only hope that all your families see you get healthy and decide that they want this for themselves. Anyway, let's all keep up the fantastic work!

I guess I should join the RAWgust 30-day challenge and try it out!
Today I had mostly mono meals but ate all raw 100%.
I ate green grapes about a lb for breakfast
lunch about 3 zucchinis/tomatoes for raw spaghetti which I used my spirilizer to make. So yummy with garlic and salt.
Dinner was a couple cucumbers in ACV salt garlic..
Am I doing anything wrong here? I did eat enough but maybe not... I don't know for sure.

Wow. I totally suck at posting, don't I? *blushes* I keep forgetting to do it.
Anyway... I plan to eat my faithful smoothie for BF (but with apples instead of strawberries. The rest is the same). I'm eating some salad for Lunch and a heartier meal for dinner. I may finish that delicious (zucchini) Fettucini Alfredo I made yesterday. Yummy!
I'm still sucking on the water department. Unfortunately, not literally.
Oh! Also, I'm losing weight! Surprisingly, much faster than I thought it would happen. I've getting lots of fat (nuts and avocados), but my appetite in general is waaay down and I'm eating more fiber than even before...

Ok ... I'm hitting the wall. I am bored with everything I'm eating, need some new ideas ... I'm looking for something EASY for lunch that is not a fruit salad, a smoothie or a green salad - HELP! I need it to be really filling and/or fat heavy. Afternoon is my time when I get ravenous (I think it's mostly mental, and I really haven't figured out the trigger yet). I am going to the grocery store tomorrow so I can pick up new ingredients if necessary AND I'm putting in a bulk foods order so I can get pretty much whatever I need. This is normally the time I would QUIT, but I don't want to because I feel so much better RAW. I always have to remind myself that the first week of school is always brutal for me and next week will be better.
Ok, now that I'm done whining ... maybe I'll try making a spicy jalapeno sunflower pate and make some gorilla sandwiches for lunch. I need to get some Ritz crackers in the dehydrator also because I'm totally out. I did get some lovely produce from Sam's Club yesterday - HUGE pineapples, organic rasberries, organic spinich, organic spring mix, more carrots for juicing .... ok, I suppose I just needed to talk to you guys to get my head back in the game. Thanks for being here.

While walnut burgers are not too hard to make, they are even easier to pull out or take with you for lunch.
Chocolate avacado pudding is my new favorite. If you've never tried it--you won't believe how chocolately and rich it is. I use=
at least 2 avacadoes
agave (squirt to taste=)
teensy bit vanilla
bit of salt
cocoa
The indian spinach dip in Alissa's book is outrageously good. I love it as a soup and over zucchini noodles, too.
Make sandwiches with your ritz crackers-
-nut butter of choice w/ banana and honey
-avacado, sprouts, tahini, tomato
-sunflower pesto pate w/tomatoes and crunchy lettuce
-marinated or not veggie sandwich w/ red onion, bellpepper, olives, tomatoes, basil and lettuce etc
-pizzas w/garlicky nut cheese and marinara and pizza vegetables
and many more...
I'm looking forward to your responses as well. Don't we all love an easy, fast fat heavy lunch?=)

{[{hugs}]}!!!!
After you get some of your work done with packing, why not take her somewhere that the two of you used to go when she was younger? Somewhere special to give her "the talk". Or maybe just somewhere fun and distracting like the movies or roller-skating=)
Remember, even though it is much harder being left than being the one leaving--she is also going through a lot of change--being there to help her transition can help you, too.
Don't supress it=) Make sure you listen to the song "Landslide" a lot and cry it out--you're going through a big change!
Also, bad food will make you feel much, much worse. As if I needed to tell you that=)

B-canteloupe
S-handful walnuts
S-carrot/beet juice
L-salad w/jalapeno pecan dressing
S-chocolate cake w/ chocolate avacado icing
D-salad in a restaurant (sneaking in dressing this time in a big baby food jar)
Last night, while feeling very deprived and starving in front of a huge platter of crunchy hot appetizers that my family was eating under my nose--I decide we are not going out to eat anymore ever. But, here we are today, my mom's birthday and I almost have to go out to eat. So, I'm bringing my own caesar dressing and ordering the caesar no dressing. That has seemed like such a waste in the past--to order a 99 cent head of lettuce (or half a head) with nothing on it for 8.99. But.........
I am going to have fun with my family and be out enjoying good food. So, I'm bringing my own dressing and going to really enjoy it.
And, I am making her a raw chocolate cake. Wow, that does sound nasty--hmm..a living chocolate cake? AGGhh!! That sounds scary! Ok, a "chocolate pecan cake" it is.
Anyone done the liver cleanse yet or would consider doing it with me ?( hyuk hyuk she said doing it with me)

.
Where's your daughter going to school? I live in Oregon, have one daughter I hope to send to OSU in Ashland after community college to get her grades up.
My daughter and a friend and I went to the Douglas County Fair and I was thrilled to find a place selling fruit smoothies made with REAL FRUIT, OMG!!!! not undefinable artificially colored and flavored goop and so naturally I bought one and thanked them ridiculously (they must have thought I was loony) for being there. This morning I had maybe a little too much  "chocolate pudding" the girls didn't eat so I was just making sure it didn't go to waste, of course. ;) Packed a big salad, a jalapeno burger, three kiwis and a peeler for lunch.

Thick - Thanks for all your lovely suggestions. I have yet to try the chocolate avocado pudding, but I think today may be the day. I don't know why I always look at avocado as savory ... I haven't even brought myself to add avocado to my smoothie yet. Also, you reminded me I like Alissa's Indian spinach dip and I have some zucchini I need to use.

thick--"Landslide" is one of the BEST feeling sad songs! So is "Company" by Rickie Lee Jones. I've been know to spontaneously combust into tears when it comes on.
raw4u--Grieve it well; it's the only way it will truly pass. Just think of it as passing a stone. *wry grin*
MiahTay--thick's list is great! I would add: marinated mushrooms, dehydrated a few hours if possible; stuff your favorite pate into thin, small, sweet pepper halves (much less salad-y than slicing up a big pepper, and sweeter, too), dip apple or pear slices into nut butter, with or without honey and cinnamon; make a raw candy, going easy on the sweetener, and refrigerate or freeze for a very different texture than salad/smoothie/fruit; lastly, don't forget raw soups, there are so many varieties.
ReneeH--Your kids are eating raw!! The only kids I feed are my 3 nieces (infant, toddler, & kindergartener). The 2 older ones love raw fruit and avocados, but that is all the raw I can get them to eat! They even turn their noses up at my chocolate banana shakes!
Last night D--3 romaine boats with walnut taco meat, whole small tomato, 1/4 avocado
S#1--cup of grapes
S#2--1/4 lb portabello mushrooms, marinated & dehydrated till juicy
Sleep--8 hrs
Water--104 oz
I've had poop troubles for the last 36 hrs. As in diarrhea. :o So I've decided to eat heavily of things with pectin in them today. And the most alkalinizing nuts, etc. I didn't want to try to influence it too much, in case it was detox, but it seems a bit out of hand.
What do y'all think?
Today I brought
smoothie ingredients: romaine, banana, 1/4 pineapple
apple
2nd banana to eat with almond butter (doesn't this sound like it would stop me up? :D )
homemade trail mix for if I get extra hungry--handful each: almonds, pumpkin seeds, red flame raisins
For dinner, I thought blueberries!

POOP - Any time I've experienced this problem I have found it MOST beneficial to give my body a break for a day or so and just drink juice with the pulp strained off.

Yes, I've had it the last 2 days for lunch, and I had thought of that...you really never know where that lettuce has been or where the veggies are chopped. Though I do know the folks in our cafeteria are quite scrupulous about cleanliness--they wear gloves to handle food and take them off to do other stuff, etc. I'm not going to have any more this week. I got organic greens from the store yesterday so I can bring my own! Must. Stop. Being. Lazy. :D

But, (no pun intended) sometimes when people wear gloves they don't wash their hands as much or as well. Or, if it's a serve yourself salad bar, the tongs might be the culprit--they might touch something on their plate then back into the tomatoes etc...then sit out for several hours..etc.

Good morning lovely ladies day 32 and hit my 1st goal 20 lbs very happy about that. I found my list of goals short term and long term and I actually completed every goal. 1. lose 20 lbs granted it was 2 days after the 30 day 1 month goal but I made it. 2. stay clean w/eating well being 100% raw for the last 32 days I think that is a big :D 3. lose inches in the waist and flatten tummy I lost 20" overall and 6" was in the tummy 1.5 waist so I did way more than I ever thought. So I have set somemore goal for this month basiclly the same as last month but I want to get to 199 by 8/17 my anniversary and 10" all over. So does anyone have any goals they would like to share?? I just can't tell you how great it feels to actually reach them. I always think about them but never write them down or commit but this time I did. Maybe this can help some of you.
Lele Congrats on the weight loss that is so great. :D My dh really loved the fettucini alfredo.
Renee I would love it if both my kids ate raw. My dd would with no real problem but ds well I am trying to get him to at least have some smoothies or ice cream (I call it) I just keep telling him about the benefits and how much quicker and better of a football player he would be. More energy to sack the quarterback. I try to read to him about the benefits so maybe he will get it one day. So can I have your recipe for kids eating raw LOL!
Raw for you WOW you have got to the point every parent dreams of the day the kids are gone. Although not forever look at me 42 and I am always at my moms. The thing is look at this as a positive be proud you have made it and instilled greatness into your daughter that she is going off to college to make her mark on the world. You have done a great job and just think about all the hard work it was getting to this point the excitement and heartache all the blood sweat and tears it took to get to this point. Just think of this as a new chapter to your book. Just think you can have a new vacation spot. You will get through this stay raw have fun with her and I am sure just like every other kid she will be calling for your great advice and wisdom oh yeah and money. Hang in there before you know it she will be out of college and you will be wondering where the time went. {{{{ohugso}}}}
Heather 1st what is a gorilla sandwich?? Also you should check out the library and see what books they have for raw recipes I know our library had allot so when I was doing my 2nd round I was way better prepared. Maybe some of the colorful pictures will excite you and get you out of your funk. Now I am going Mexican tonight and making taco meat to go with the corn chips that will be done tonight. That recipe is 1 cup assorted nuts walnut, pecan, sunflower or whatever water (warm) as needed taco seasoning-chili powder, cumin, salt, paprika, garlic Put nuts into vm pulse until broken not mushy add seasoning and quick pulse followed by splash of water pulse. Don't over blend you don't want baby food. Put with avocado diced tomatoes salsa up to you. How about gaucamole I never thought I liked it but now I really do. I put a couple avocados then 1 colve garlic, cilantro, tomatoes, corn from cob, scallion onions, sea salt, cracked pepercorn, hot peppers or whatever I have give or take. Just a couple ideas for something new. Hope this helps.
Thick Yes I love fast and easy. You always have good ideas and great recipes. I am still waiting to get the jalepeno burger but I can't get it from work so when I go home I have to use that computer but I haven't had time when I am home. So one day I will get it and be making them. How long have you been raw?
Now I was just wondering when you need to dehydrate foods like pizza crust burgers or anything like that for instance when I made the pizza it was way too much for the both of us so should I make the batter and then freeze what I don't use before I dehydrate or should I dehydrate it then freeze it? Oh yeah I am making lasgana for this weekend and I am dehydrating it so I need to use a corning ware dish (glass type not plastic) right?
So now I just got off the phone with my sis and she is allergic to wheat. So I was telling her I was making the lasgana for sat party and choc cake she asked what was in it and I was telling her and her response was that is awfull high calorie. I was just like well I am not sure about that but I have lost 20 lbs and 20" so something is working. :p Then she was like so what are you going to do when you start eating real food??? WHAT? Hello I am eating real food more real than you. She then said you can't eat that way for the rest of your life. Well yeah it is a vegan raw diet. Then I had to hang up and call my mom who was the same way but then I explained to her and now she understands better and wants to add in more raw.
Sorry for the rambling. Have a grawt day.

Good evening,
All of your food ideas look so great today! I really want to try the chocolate avocado pudding and the indian spinach dip - will have to pick up things at the store tomorrow to make this over the weekend. I made Alissa's blueberry cheesecake today so will let you all know how it is tomorrow. I'm planning to have it for lunch (because I can do that on a raw diet). :D
Today I had to leave the house earlier than normal to get to the gym as my gym partner had an early meeting. I didn't have time to make a smoothie, so I ended up having a Lara bar for breakfast. I also had more yummy watermelon soup, some dates and two cacao nib chocolate truffles. I buy them from Alissa's store and they are my absolute favorite.
Have a great night!
Breakfast: Raw Spaghetti again and cucumber..
I want more raw spaghetti so I am going to get more zucchini and squash.
I will make a GS with romaine, celery, tomato, garlic for lunch or dinner.
I'm late joining the raw challenge but I will try it! :D Will check back later when I have eaten.
I just read your note from yesterday. Just listen to your body. If you feel satisfied than you have eaten enough if not you will need to eat more. That is what is so freeing about eating raw you don't have to count calories, etc. Just listen to your body. Glad to have you with us!:)
Today I worked out at the gym and did a really hard strength building class with my daughter and then I had a doctor’s appointment so I had lunch out on the run. Foods eaten:
A banana
1 whole juan canary melon
Garden salad at McDonalds with squeezed lemon
Later for dinner will be zucchini noodles with tomato mango sauce on top called anti pasta
I might even squeeze in another fruit before dinner
Thanks, Foxi! :) I spent so much time peeling and cutting my zucchini to look exactly like a fettucini, but it was WORTH IT! IMO, made a world of difference, kwim?

I spent half my day at eye doctors today. I wish I could get off these steroid drops already so I can prove to these clowns that nutrition DOES make a difference. My body has to be given a chance to heal, all these drugs interfere with the body's healing response. Oh well.
This morning I had my usual lemon water, then same as yesterday, because I liked it: Mushed together bananas, grapefruit, and escarole. Lunch was 2 clementines between doctors' appointments. I also did a couple of weeks worth of food shopping. It's not a cheap way to eat, but I spent hours last night reading recipes, and just had to stock up on staples such as cashews, chickpeas, almonds, sesame seeds......etc. I won't have to buy all that every other week.
In the afternoon I had a couple of mini avocados with hotsauce. I'm not hungry yet, but have some sesame seeds soaking for Emma-Liza's grain-free tabbouleh. I also have kale chips in the dehydrator and chickpeas soaking for hummus tomorrow evening. I really want to make Ritz crackers, but should probably cool it for right now. For crying out loud, I'm a solo raw vegan. I don't want to greet it on my hips later. Eventually, even good calories catch up with me.

Feeling tired today, I think I’ll go to bed early which means I need to post this and get ready for bed now. I’ve been a little discouraged that I haven’t noticed any major changes in how I feel, but I think my body must be slowly detoxing. So I’m hanging in there knowing that it will happen over time.
Congratulations to everyone on making it through day 7!!! :D

Since I lost my post this morning, I'd better try it again now. Hope I can remember all I wanted to say to you sweet rawbies.
ReneeH - It is wonderful that you are having such fun with raw food. I am happy for you that your children are enthusiastic about it and that even your husband has eaten some of your food! You are doing a great job of setting the example here.:)
raw4u - How I feel for you. Motherhood is the hardest job in the world and yet, I feel, the most rewarding. Your daughter will miss you and come home for super visits, don't you worry. I am 62 and I have 2 sons and my last baby was my daughter who is now 27. She is funny, smart, loving and gorgeous and I adore her. She has been giving me "love" notes since she was a little girl and as I was bagging up some of my clothes two weeks ago to give away, I happened to find one of her notes to me written on a piece of kleenex. It was in my suit jacket pocket. Was I ever moved when I found this. I wrote her about it. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't long to see her and hold her. I fully agree with Thick (I'm pretty sure it was her) that "Landslide" (Stevie Nicks) is a song that is gut-wrenching - so accurately describes us mums getting older. But I am not able to give you much in the way of wisdom here - I think much of what the others have said here is better than anything I could say. My thoughts are with you this week and the weeks to come.
Thick - I printed out the list of yummy suggestions you had for MiahTay this morning such as the Chocolate Avocado pudding. You are such a big help just when we need it.
Well I know I can't possible get around to all of you so just keep up the good work rawbies. I read every single post here though.
I think I already posted my breakfast.
Late lunch was the most delectable "Guacamole". Mmmm.....it is so good. I had never had it before. Had it with some "ritz crackers" (raw). And monk'sflax crackers are smelling wonderful in the dehydrator. I will get on with the Palestinian Hummus in the morning.
Supper was a salad, more guacamole and Blueberry Pie and raw whipped cream with a bit of Agave on it.
I am ready for some sleep. 'til tomorrow.:) xoxo

Stayed Raw!
Today I went with my hubby down the hill to take care of some business and we went to lunch at Soup Plantation where I usually gave into croutons and a brownie and I didn't do either :D. I'm so proud of myself. Then he wanted to go the movies and he told me before we left so, I armored myself up. I brought a larabar and a snack bag full of sprouted raw sunflower seeds. So, we got to the movie and I bought a water and he got soda and popcorn. Popcorn is a weakess for me. Man, it smelled so Damn good. But, we sat down and he started munching so, I pulled out my sunflower seeds and ate some then I put them back and then he offered me some popcorn.....oh no you didn't LOL!.............so, I pulled my bag back out. I'm full. Next time I'll bring carrots and celery maybe.......something lighter for sure.
So, Todays Food:
B: Banana w/1 bite of cacao and goji berries
L: Huge Salad of Spinach, Red cabbage, broccoli, celery, radishes, zuchini, bell pepper, beets, garbonzo beans & kidney beans, sunflower seeds and vinergerette
S: Sprouted sunflower seeds
S: Bite of Rawvolution bar
S: Nectarine and bowl of grapes and cherries

Good morning fellow challengers. Am I ever feeling "off" today - total opposite from yesterday. I'm exhausted - could hardly get out of bed. I haven't eaten anything yet. I always wait until I am hungry. I know I can't eat after 7 p.m. (I ate supper at about 10p.m. last night) and I am convinced too that I must soak absolutely all my nuts. At this point it is too early to tell if I am allergic to nuts. But I think they are hard to digest. I "feel" puffy and a bit congested. Yesterday I noticed that all day my eyes were a bit blurry - I forget how others have described it, but it's as though they were oozing something. It's easy to notice this as I wear contacts. Would anyone be able to post a link to what to look for in detox symptoms? And how do I know whether I am getting an allergic reaction or going through detox? I am getting awfully tired of the pain in my foot. I am thinking I'm going to end up paying $50 an hour to see a reflexologist. But she is very good and I am sure she would be a great help to me. When I faced surgery years ago when nothing else I'd tried had worked to ease the disc in my spine back into place - this reflexologist got me on my feet again. She massaged my feet and used something else called "Moxibustion", a Chinese heat treatment. When she finished with me, I was so relaxed and I just wanted to stay right there on the table and sleep forever. But it is so expensive. By the way, my back pain has lessened quite a bit - I noticed this after doing quite a bit of vacuuming the other day and I also washed the kitchen floor - these things usually agravate it. RAW RAW! Anyway I will be back later to read about everyone's day which I hope goes well.:)

Greetings All!
It is a glorious day here! Bit of a nip in the air....sign that Fall is around the corner {gasp...! I'm not ready yet!}......
The other day I went to a local farm stand and they had bananas that were turning...got them so cheap...I bought them all! I peeled and froze them and now my hubby and kids are all drinking green smoothies!!!!
Heather: Your dinner sounds wonderful! Gives me ideas for a menu!:)
I am glad that you and Raw4u are feeling better and I really hope that you, Islegirl, feel better as the day progresses....I wish I had answers for you! (((HUGS)))...stay off the nuts and see if your eyes get better? but if it were me, I wouldn't wait too long...if it persists, I'd seek medical attention...but that's just me....have you had the reaction to nuts before?
Today: Big GS....
I will have the rest of the Blueberry pie....Big salad.....nori with The Bomb cheese/rolled/dehydrated.....trying to eat up what's in the kitchen...so keeping it simple: avos...cuke salad etc. etc.......
Have a great Raw day! love, Deb

islesgirl, weepy, oozy eyes are definitely an allergy symptom, one I've struggled with for 20+ years. If you suspect it's nuts, cut out cashews for sure (if you're eating them) because they are related to poison ivy. Also you may have a reaction to tannins in walnuts or pesticide spray in non-organic seeds (usually not a problem with hard-shelled nuts). Another thing that causes watery eyes (besides pure tiredness) is parasites (not the protozoa type but the worm type).
My mom is here and will spend the day with my daughter, who is getting her wisdom teeth out. I made them fish for dinner and did not eat any of it myself:) . I ate a huge salad with some pumpkin seeds.
Since my blender is noisy and I leave the house while everyone else is sleeping, I made two soft smoothy/pudding type things for everybody: mango lassi with soaked cashews and one kiwi thrown in because it was kinda wilted and a variation of the yummy looking "coffee" posted here. I didn't have any lacuma or maca so I just put in some brown rice syrup (not raw!) to make it taste caramelly for my daughter. I poured both drinks into big glasses for them and left them in the refrigerator. I had some lassi for breakfast and brought some more with me to work.
I also brought a big salad, one avocado and some carrots. So my lunch will look slightly more normal to my coworkers than it did the day I brought whole heads of pak choy and ate them!

Yesterday afternoon, I made kale chips for the first time. I used a spice mix called Essence of Jamaica, which has a lot of habanero in it. I used an entire bunch of kale, 3 trays in the Excalubur, and I ate it all when it came out. Oh my, what a treat. I had 3 potatoes left in the cubpoard that needed to be used for something, so I sliced them, sprinkled them with olive oil and spike and dehydrated them, too. Had a few potato chips this morning, but have to say that they aren't any more a treat for me than the commercial variety. I'm just not a potato chip person, I prefer cornchips and salsa.
This morning I am having a mango, apricot, spinach, cilantro smoothie. A little heavy on the cilantro, but drinkable nevertheless. Good for the eyes, I hope. Lunch will be a salad, and for dinner I'm working on the Palestinian Hummus from the recipe section. I have some broccoli and cauliflower to use up, so it's going to be veggies with hummus. Have a great day 8 everybody.

EmmaT--15 lbs is outstanding! Congrats! Put those chips out for the birds and move on!
MiahTay--Sounds like you are at an even keel today! Your food looks great!
raw4u--Sounds like you are being present with the feelings and that is so healthy!
petaltothemetal--I'm sure your raw mad blender skills will come in handy for your daughter's recovery!
Last night D--walnut taco meat, sweet peppers, marinated/dehydtrated portabello mushrooms, romaine lettuce, avocado, tomato, scallion, lime juice
Sleep: 7.25 hrs
Water: 96 oz
Today B--boring green smoothie: romaine (never again! gee, I hate the taste of this in a smoothie!) pineapple 1/2, 8 large strawberries
L--spinach salad: spinach, grape tomatoes, 1/2 avocado, huge handful alfalfa sprouts, red onion, lemon juice/olive oil
S--I have the makin's for a monkey sandwich (banana sliced lengthwise, filled with nut butter)
I promised my dad we'd have dinner out with him this evening...don't know where.
The way everything has been tasting today--blah!--I don't expect to enjoy it. But oddly, I'm okay with that! I figure that way, I won't want so much of it.
Maybe? *hope hope*

Deberaw--A scuppernong is a kind of grape. You can make jelly or wine with them. People have them growing in their yards. My aunt had a vine on her carport that she made us jelly with when I was kid. Yum! They are a kind of muscadine, I think.

I ended up making raw spaghetti for breakfast instead of green smoothie.. Was DELICIOUS with marinara sauce/garlic on it..
I can't seem to get enough of it lately.
Lunch was cucumbers & sunflower seeds
Dinner is green grapes and maybe some more of the raw spaghetti!! Yum!
I went to the grocery store few minutes ago and cucumbers, tomatoes, and zucchini is MORE at the grocery store than at the local organic farm I go to!!!!!!!! Yay! I'm shopping at the farm instead from now on since not only better for me but cheaper as well.
I'm not as hungry as I have been, but I'm still wondering if I'm getting enough for my body's nutrition... At least I'm not eating SAD foods at all. The only drawback for me right now starting out is the digestive part where it seems like I should be doing GS instead because food particles aren't seeming to be digested very well. :( I hate that!

Food cravings seem to be diminishing finally, I don’t feel like I need to constantly eat something. :D
Still feeling tired and still have the joint pain and stiffness in my hands. My whole right arm was aching earlier today.
:(
Anyone done the liver cleanse yet or would consider doing it with me ?( hyuk hyuk she said doing it with me)
Thick,
I have been wondering if maybe doing a liver cleanse or just fasting would help with my joint pain and stiffness, and my energy level as well. Have you ever done either before? How about everyone else? Has either of these made you feel better quicker?
I bought a couple of organic beets today which I shredded through the saladacco and put on my salad for dinner. I think I’ll throw the two nubs that were left into a smoothie in the morning.
Breakfast: baby spinach, orange, 2 frozen bananas smoothie
Snack: fuji apple
Lunch: salad with romaine, spinach, carrots, red peppers, bean sprouts with creamy Italian dressing
Snack: Lara bar
Dinner: Huge salad with romaine, spinach, carrots, red peppers, bean sprouts, beets (run through saladacco), green onion, tomato, parsley, cilantro and creamy Italian dressing.
I will probably have a snack later, not sure what it will be yet.

I am super duper sorry for getting my first post in just now. I had signed up and started the 30 day raw challenge for August, but have been without internet for the last week. I just wanted to update you all and let you know that I've been doing well, and can post regularly from here :)
Today was a crazy day. We're in the midst of a heatwave which I'm having a hard time getting used to. (very rare here). My poor little kitten has been sick since yesterday, so I had to take her to the vet today. She's ok though :)
B-GS
L-fruit smoothie (pineapple, peach, orange)
S-1/2 cucumber
S-nuts, 3 dates
D-my favorite smoothie of all! (raw carob powder, frozen banana, agave, fresh almond milk, nutmeg, ice) so good!!
Hope it's ok that I'm posting late! =)

I ended up having a smoothie for lunch, clementine/apricot/plum. Delicious. By this evening I had finished making the palestinian hummus. I'm in love! Had half a head of cauliflower with lots of the hummus.
A strange thing is happening (although I expected it). My eyesight is suddenly getting better. For the last year I have needed reading glasses, but today I can see even the smallest print without glasses. Can't wait to go to my eye doctor and say "I told you so". He, as so many other doctors, thinks nutrition has nothing to do with healing.

Good morning,
I didn't get a chance to post yesterday but am still going strong! Besides my smoothie in the morning, yesterday was a nut heavy day for me. I tried the blueberry cheesecake and think I would need to make some tweaks to it if I made it again. I put some cacao powder and coconut flakes on it for lunch and it tasted a little better.
So far today I have only had an apple. I am planning to take a shower and then make a banana smoothie before heading off to the farm stand to stock up. Then I have some housework and homework (I'm taking MBA classes at night) to finish up. I bought some kiwis yesterday so will probably have some of those for lunch.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi=)
Well today I'm feeling cleansy--
B-watermelon
S-carrot/beet juice
L-papaya w/ lime
S-grapes
D- probably salad w/ nut dressing of some kind
Whilst my Mom was babysitting, apparently my 4 year old brought her a (LOL) walnut jalapeno burger to try. Later that night she told me, I had one of your nutburgers in your fridge, I really liked them. So...I'll keep you posted. After my first couple of maniacally happy weeks, I have learned to keep my joy with raw all bottled up and give it to you guys.. But...she mentioned that she would try some more recipes, but she didnt have a food processor--so I'm going to get her one, no raw attached.
Thanks for being here for me--you guys make such a huge difference=)

Goodmorning challengers!
I posted last night explaining that I had signed up for this August challenge in July, but haven't been able to post for the last week because I didn't have internet access. Everything is fixed and I'm happy to be back online :)
I've been doing raw everyday since the 1st and doing very well. I have tampered with being raw in the past. The longest stretch for me was only 2 weeks, but I have been obsessed with eating this way for over a year now. I do have Alissa's book and DVD's and LOVE the recipes!
My reasons for going raw?
#1-to help with my depression
#2-weight loss (I'm currently 225 and have been struggling with being overweight for the last 15yrs now. I have come to terms with the fact that "diets" don't work.
#3-to heal the damage I may have caused within-due to years of unhealthy eating
#4-to help get over my food addiction
Those are the ones that stick out right now, but I'm sure I will find hundreds of more reasons along the way
I have been "in love" with the idea of being raw for a long time now...I know that sounds silly, but it's true. Everytime I have attempted, only to fall back to a SAD...my heart always brings me back here. This is my first 30 day challenge, and I'm really excited to be part of it.
I hope no one minds that I started posting late in the game. I have been a good raw girl since Day 1;)
Today, I started my day of with a GS (spinach, strawberries, banana and peach).
Not sure what I'll have the rest of the day, but I will pop in and update.
Have a great day!

Hey, guys!! *waves*
I woke up late today, but since the kid was still sleeping I made a ton of stuff in the blender! Yesterday was *hard* not being able to blend anything. I'm glad I had a little bit of GS left. And because I add chia seeds, it gets really thick and yummy.
Today:
BF: GS w/ apples, banana, *tons* of Kale, flax meal and soaked chia seeds (drop of lime).
Lunch: Salad with baby spinach, arugula, tomatoes, cucumber, lime juice, OO and salt.
Dinner: I'll be either broccoli soup or corn chowder. I'm looking forward to eat both!
Snack: Nuts, oranges and/or watermelon.
Coralv ~ Yesterday was hard for me too. Even though my corn salad was delicious, I kept missing cooked food, specially when cooking for the other 2 in the house. Even my mood was not cool, but that could be because is that TOM. :)
Good job, everybody!

Good morning,
I slept in a little this morning and am just now sitting down with some cucumber juice to start my homework that I intended to do yesterday (I'm a constant procrastinator). My hubby and I are going to the movies later today, and that tends to be one of the hardest places to go. I love popcorn and even though my hubby won't get any, it always makes me want some when I hear and see other people eating it. I'm planning to bring a Raw Crunch bar and some chocolate truffles with me so I won't be tempted.
I tried on a size 12 today and I could zip it up! :D It's still a little too tight to look good but I will give it another try next weekend after another hard week at the gym.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Didn't check in yesterday. Had banana/mango/spinach smoothie for breakfast and cucumber and hummus for lunch. Went to Doobie Brothers concert on the other side of the Puget Sound in the evening, a two hour drive plus a ferry ride from my house. I took cut up plums, soaked almonds, and a couple of bananas with me. Also had my first taste of Lara (?) bars. I made it just fine. Every now and then someone carried a plate of food past that smelled yummy, but mostly everything smelled greasy and later there was an overwhelming beer smell in the air. Was not tempted by any of it. I got home very late, and am still out of it a little. Sipping my hot lemon water to get things going.
Today I'll stick to smoothies, salad, and some more of the hummus. I really like that stuff. The other day I ordered a spiral slicer. I hope it gets here soon so I can try some of that zucchini spaghetti with tomato/garlic/basil etc. sauce everybody is talking about.
Have a fabulous day 10 everybody!

I know exactly how you feel about the whole movie thing...I LOVE movie popcorn. I was once SO dedicated (and crazy I might add...lol) that I actually took my Master Cleanse lemonade to the movies with me and stirred up the whole concoction before the movie started. I brought a little jar and drank it with a straw during the movie...nuts! I know! LOL If I could do that, I know that I could bring healthy raw munchies...I think I should go see a flick today...Have fun at the movies!
Hope you are all having a great morning so far. I updated my foods last night, but then during a video we were watching last night, I became so hungry so I had a handful of walnuts that I didn't write down. Man, just to think of what I WOULD have done pre-raw! I'm so happy that I'm changing :)
I started my morning off with my favorite smoothie (organic cocoa powder, agave, cinnamon, nutmeg, banana and fresh almond milk). I swear, that drink makes me have "sweet" dreams every night. I just can't wait to wake up in the morning and have it! lol
You guys are so great with planning your days ahead of time of what you will eat. I am so unorganized that way. I just wait until I'm hungry and figure out at that time what I will eat. I should plan something today....hmmm
Have a great day! Check in later.

I'm just gonna post here since I didn't get to log on AT ALL yesterday! From 8 am Sat to 8 am Sun, I was home only 2 hours! And most of that was spent showering, changing, feeding animals. No crisis--just my crazy life! :D Thank god for Mr.Liza, who keeps the home fires burning while I am out relating to everyone I know!
Dinner Fri nite was Swanky's Taco Shop--
salad with veggies and guacamole, no dressing. I took the last of the walnut taco meat to top the salad with and I doubt anyone noticed. My dad was busy talking to Mr.Liza, my sis was in line for her food. It is just ridiculously easy these days!
Sat--
B--apple
L--1/2 avocado, 1 1/4 tomatoes, 1/4 cuke, 3/4 huge peach
S--banana, some pecans
D--apple, raw crunch bar, more pecans
I was stuck babysitting at my brother's house and they really didn't have much in the way of raw. I hadn't allowed enough time to pack a supper. Not recommended, btw!

Been up since 4 am with my own insomnia + sick 4-month-old niece and then later in the am took my 3 and 4-year-old nieces to the barn to ride and then out to eat with my dad for "brunch." I branched out today ;) and got only 1 side salad no cheese and bowl of fresh fruit. All they had was honeydew, but it was perfect! so sweet and too much!
Just put into the dehydrator a batch of Alissa's walnut mushroom loaf formed into burgers. I just crave the way mushrooms taste after a couple hours in the dehydrator--dark, warm, and juicy! (Insert favorite joke here.)
I actually subsititued pecans and sunflower seeds for the walnuts, as I plan also to make the jalapeno burgers today or tomorrow.
Having been on the go all day yesterday and no quick food to grab made me realize I needed to get on the stick and restock my fridge. I didn't have any greens either and I feel the lack!
I'm going to post two product reviews on my blog later--a cookie and a bread I ordered from Raw Food World.
Br--green salad, honeydew
S--ritz cracker, few pecans
D--mushroom burger over greens with onion, tomato, avocado
I also might make a small smoothie somewhere in there!

Lots of pain and a mouth full of sores has slowed me down a bit and I spent a while doing research today on "detox". How thankful I am that I did this. Now I will not be so afraid of the pain and any more sores in my mouth as I will be pretty sure it is simply detox. It sure isn't pleasant but it means I'm doing this right.
So far today, all I have eaten is delicious sweet watermelon! I will post more when I am feeling a bit better. xxoo

I just finished making a huge batch of zucchini noodles with pesto sauce! SO GOOD! I am going to a raw foods potluck tonight! Yay!

Hi=)
Oooh Emma-Liza that juicy warm meatloaf sounds so good! I am going to make some walnut burger italian meatballs tonight for lunch tomorrow. They should dehydrate quickly, since they are so little. I can't wait=)
Welp, my 10 year old is off to camp for the whole week. I feel like I sent him off to college...but in a good way=)>
Tonight i'm having avacado chocolate pudding and dehydator cooked portobello pizza w/ pecan cheese, tomatoes, basil, red bell peppers and cayenne--yum yum.
Ooooooh how i want to make Starfire's version of Alissa's pizza form that pizza thread recently...I'm settling for the mushroom version..but sometime this week I'll test it out..

Snack: Lara bar
Snack: Almonds
Dinner: Red cabbage rolls with kim chee, guacamole, marinated portabello and Vidalia onions.
Snack: large piece of watermelon

Started my day with a banana & Almond Butter. Lunch was an avocado and tomatoes. For supper I had a large salad; greens, tomatoe, bean sprouts, alfalfa spouts, cucumber, carrot, green onion. Very Good. Could have used sunflower or pumpkin seeds or pecans to give it a little different taste. Raisins would have been yummy also.
I will drink 4oz. water with psyllium and bentonite prior to bed.

Just checking back in to report on the mushroom burgers. They turned out not the way I thought, but really, really good! They are not juicy, but it turns out, I don't mind! They have a nice mushroomy flavor, and are moist, but not juicy. I think had I put a bit of olive oil and nama shoyu on them, the way I do with plain portabellos, they may have been jucier, but they might also have fallen apart. I definitely preferred them dehydrated a few hours over not dehydrated. I put mustard on them and they were very burger-ish! Some kind of bbq sauce would be excellent with these!
I've got walnut jalapeno burgers in the D as we speak!
Just one more note, I used a regular ice cream scoop to make the mushroom burgers and a small ice cream scoop to make the jalapeno ones. I got 8 out of each batch.

Wow this thread is really hopping. I have to look back for the last couple days. But I am still 100% raw and going I have the count on my calendar at work so I will have the tally on tues. Now the funny thing is I had 3 parties this weekend well and I night out on the town. But I did come prepared with lasagna and chocolate cake that was the best. It was so good and a big hit at the party. I have sold about 2 books at my neices party and they are going to call around and see who carries it but if not they are going to order it. Then when we went out dancing to the 70's party they loved it too and I have 2 people who want me to cook for them. I am thinking about it. The cost for the food a some time money. I do enjoy it and I hope to be retiring in 1-4 years depending on if they have this buy out. Then in todays party well they all thought we were nuts but said we looked good. So I really wanted some pizza but all I could think about was the 23lbs gone and 20" that I am not carring around. I then thought about how crappy I would feel if I did eat sad. I did try to explain to them and mil just couldn't believe her son how healthy he got. He is ok with eating some cooked but me I would have to really be desperate. I was asking how they made some foods but if it had processed then no I couldn't eat it. So I had my foods. I had a huge salad when we got home later. Munched on veggies and raw nuts.
I really have to say I am into this more so than anything. I really am thinking about the weight loss and how great I feel and wonder if it is worth it to eat junk or processed foods. As I was explaining at the party today about how back when they were growing up there wasn't processed foods but now that is all there is and fast food everywhere. They were starting to see the picture. They kept asking how long I could keep this up for but I really don't know. Maybe forever but I know I do want to keep processed foods out. I think eating clean is that nothing processed white foods and sugars. I often think about eating chicken 100% free kind but then the lenght of time it takes to get through your system. You really have to think now how things are going through your body and how it processes what is doing in there.
So raw it is for now and oh by the way the best site to get the jalepeno burger they were great they also have some pretty interesting foods. thesunnyrawkitchen.com
Well I have to get going have a great evening and better tomorrow.
Luv,
Roxanne

How many people are coming straight from SAD to raw challenge? My wife and I took a lot of baby steps along the way making our diet progressively better before we stumbled upon raw. Our progression went like this with stops along the way.
1. Started not eating any red meat
2. Gave up Chicken and Turkey
3. Gave up all meat including eggs and fish
4. Gave up all dairy except for occasional breads cooked in dairy
5. Cut out all white sugar, msg, and high fructose corn syrup
6. Gave up all soy products except soy sauce and nama shoyo
7. Threw out all cans, boxes, and bottles and only cooked with whole foods and lightly processed oils and condiments (traditionally brewed Soy sauce, cold pressed oils, Agave nectar, etc …). No white: rice, sugar, salt, flour, etc …
8. Started cooking a few raw meals from time to time
9. Survived a summer (with a 9 yr old) with only turning the stove on 3 times. Although we continued to eat cooked
10. food out occasionally for lunch and dinner
11. Went on a week long raw food retreat
12. And then I tried this challenge
I am sure no many people took as many steps as we did but I wonder if anybody else take any.

Hello=)
With no son to homeschool this week, I'm turning my attention to getting my house ready to sell and to starting preschool with my little ones.
Also, I've changed my reasons for wanting to be raw. Instead of the next size down pants or the trip to visit far away friends--now I'm doing it as a sort of Calling. I want to do this 100% so that I can in turn help others in my future and my present overcome disease and obesity.
I want to help people by showing them the universe and being a shining example of what can happen if we follow the universe's ways. (my son has said, but Mom, didn't the universe also create the scientists who made the food additives and chemicals?)
I have volunteered to help the universe help us all. My body is just the university that will provide me the insights to help others. I am so glad to have you guys in my study group=) And thanks so much for letting me copy your notes=)

I am sure no many people took as many steps as we did but I wonder if anybody else take any.
I have been vegan, gluten free, vegetarian, SAD, weight watchers flex, weight watchers core, SAD..I always ended up back with SAD before I tried Raw.
Now, the reverse has happened..I might veer off course at some point, but I know I will always come back to raw.

thick--Your son is clever! Also, I like the university of the body idea a whole lot!
rufassa--I transitioned from all sad to all raw vegan in about 6 weeks. I tend to be either full blown health-mode or not! But I still have trouble with change. I stayed in transition till I was so eager to start, I couldn't wait any more. Boy, that was the right thing to do!
Last night D--I had 2 mushroom burgers (made from Alissa's Walnut Mushroom Loaf mix, where I subbed a combo of pecans and sunflower seeds for the walnuts, formed into burgers, and dehydrated @ 2 hrs) with some mustard and pickles (not raw, but I'm heading for Whole Foods to get more Bubbie's!). This gave me such a fix for my burger cravings! I blew off the planned salad, however, b/c I was too tired to make it.
S--1/4 lime larabar
Sleep: 7.5 hrs
Water: @ 90 oz
Today--
B-green smoothie: spinach; 1/4 pineapple; lg orange; pumpkin, chia, flax, and hemp seeds; dash stevia
L--chopped salad: 1 1/2 tomatoes, 1/3 english cuke, 1/4 white onion, 1/4 avocado, 1 small orange sweet pepper, drizzle olive oil, greek seasoning blend, herbamare
flax cracker
S--either a banana or an apple
Supper the next 2 nights will be out. I expect this to be challenging. I really have only told people I'm "watching what I eat" and "trying to stay vegan." Very vague, because I despise having to explain my food.
Virtually everyone in my family has an eating issue of some sort and we've all learned to not question what anyone else orders or eats, etc. We're actually a comfortably dysfunctional clan! ;) But, these next 2 nights are with friends whom I see less frequently, and we'll be at places that have very little raw, so...I'm feeling a bit tense.

I was off line a couple days and read the last two days to catch up. Roxie, did you say you lost 20"??? OMG! You must be very proud!
My daughter had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled and I decided this would be a good idea for both of us to load up on non-dairy smoothies & juices. :D But Mom came over with a bunch of yogurts and (sweetened) bottled juices so my stuff seemed less appealing to my daughter. Oh, well, more for me?
Drank a lot of watermelon/lime juice and carrot juice all weekend, ate salads, "pudding" and a couple jalapeno burgers. Discovered AFTER I made a strawberry/coconut pudding that one of my packages of frozen young coconut had sugar in it (the other 9 I bought did not). I don't like to add any sweetener if I have unsweetened coconut and fruit, so I knew in my first bite that something was wrong.
But thought maybe some of you might want to know: asian food stores sell (usually next to the frozen pickles and fish) flat packages of frozen young coconut. Check the labels on the back. Some will say citric acid and sugar in the ingredients but if you look at the nutrition label it will say 0 grams of sugar. These will do in a pinch, as both the citric acid and sugar are less than 2%. Some of the packages have no additives at all. I happened to get one with 15g of sugar per serving. The best coconut to buy (besides being unsweetened) is the kind already shaved into noodle form. The shredded and grated kind will never blend smooth. Plus, the noodle kind makes yummy (who would've thunk it!) NOODLES!
Today I brought more juice and a big salad and a small hunk of manna bread.

Rufassa, I too have tried a bunch of different styles of eating. When I was a teenager I was mostly vegetarian, then macrobiotic (and lost too much weight), then pescetarian, then vegetarian, then whateveritarian, then after a horrible bout of foot poisoning that caused me to miscarry my third child, I got serious about the quality of my food. Because no matter what you call your eating style, there's always some kind of junk out there. I resolved to KNOW my food. I bought a little farm, raised meat animals, chickens for eggs and fruits and vegetables. I became secretary of a non-profit farm rights group. I tried eat almost exclusively food I knew, either because I or my friends grew it. I did pretty well for awhile, then started dating a man who swears it's not his fault :p but who likes food made with pasta and cheese, so guess what I starting making? It's really not his fault, but I did gain a lot of weight and my headaches, allergies, asthma and arthritis all worsened dramatically. Then I moved away and transitioned to the paleolithic diet, which was sort of what I was doing before, but with more raw veggies and fruit. I went all raw early July, so I'm still a newbie. Really the only thing I want is coffee... and lots of it, but I'm being pretty good. I thought I'd want bread since both my mom and I got really good at baking it. But I don't want bread at all. My only real challenge is that no one else I really care about (Mom, daughter and boyfriend, who says he's moving out here) is that excited about this new way of eating, especially since I'm not thin yet!

Yesterday I spent all day dehydrating, stuff like zucchini and sweet potatoes into chips, flax crackers, and finally sesame crackers. Now I have to give my dehydrator the rest of the day off (really, my ears...since it makes some racket! I think I'll have to ban it to the laundry room).
I've also sprouted quite a bit. Mung beans and some spicy seed mixture, and wheat berries for rejuvelac. Never have done that before, we'll see how it works out. I'm trying everything and then keeping only those things going that really appeal to me. So far, I used the mung bean sprouts this morning in my smoothie, along with escarole and canteloupe. Yack! I will not throw anything away that contains good food, so I drank it for breakfast and have another quart for dinner. After that, never again! It would taste alright with banana, I'm sure, but all my bananas are still green.
For lunch I had 2 mini avocados mixed with chili sauce and garlic powder, and some of my just completed sesame crackers. Certainly more like food I enjoy eating. Personally, I think the crackers are too much trouble to make. So far my favorite types of foods are fruit smoothies with spinach for breakfast and big salads for dinner.
A third of the monthly challenge already over, and it feels like it has only just begun!

I have definitely had my ups and downs... especially recently..., still have to cook for a SAD family, but they are eating more RAW because of my lifestyle, so I'm winning the battle every day!
I'm finding it easier this time around for some reason... I feel more ready... I feel more support this time... I'm definitely happier and finding my "place", while trying not to be too overconfident... and enjoying my daily GREEEEEEN Smoothies!!! :D

Breakfast: raw spaghetti ( tomatoes/zucchini with garlic )
Lunch: strawberries & blueberries
Dinner: grapes & cucumbers with apple cider vinegar
Snack: sunflower seeds YUM.
Rufassa, I tried a bunch of diets as well in the past few years and none worked of course. I grew up basically eating cooked vegetarian, not much meat at all because hated the thought of eating animals although I used a lot of dairy/eggs and ate crab because I loved crab dips. I tried the low-carb, Atkins diet and gained more weight doing that diet than losing because I couldn't really eat just meat products and didn't stay on that one for long either ewww meat all day long gross!!
I came across raw vegan because I had developed several problems and have to a point even disabled me in ways. I have severe anxiety/depression, eating disorders, allergies, and acid reflux that got me searching for answers to fix my eating so my body would heal. I still feel like I HAD to do raw like I was given no other choice. In a way I'm glad because I do like my fruits and vegetables, but then again I am having a hard time because I went from SAD foods to 100% raw because that's all I'm allowing myself to do because of the way my body gets sick from eating SAD foods. I'll never look at cooked/SAD foods again the way I used to though. I look at meat now and think it's got worms or dairy products cause acne. That's the mental picture I get when I'm looking at the food itself which is good I guess for staying raw. :)
I'm only concerned with eating enough and enough variety as well as being on a budget here. Getting enough nutrients from what I'm eating even though I'm not hungry. I'm probably getting more nutrients than I was before raw. At least I hope so. Only thing that makes me think that I'm not getting enough nutrients is the numbness in my legs that I've been having this past month. Hoping it's not from nutrient deficiency.
Hope everyone enjoys their day today. Mine is ok, the usual. I've been stressed out so much lately though.

Rufassa, I went from SAD (although I have always been very health conscience), to a diet that excluded dairy, sugar, soy, wheat, and meat (chicken and fish allowed sparingly). I was really feeling sooo much better on this diet and was on it for a few months, and was just getting used to it, when my sister-in-law introduced me to raw foods. This has been much harder but I think the payoff will be tremendous.
Hello=)
Also, I've changed my reasons for wanting to be raw. Instead of the next size down pants or the trip to visit far away friends--now I'm doing it as a sort of Calling. I want to do this 100% so that I can in turn help others in my future and my present overcome disease and obesity.
Thick, Very Inspiring! Good for you!
Plus, the noodle kind makes yummy (who would've thunk it!) NOODLES!
petaltothemetal, thanks for the info, I never thought of looking for frozen young coconut or in noodle form. I’ll have to go the store and ask about it.
My joints feel so much better today, just a little stiffness in my fingers but better than yesterday. I don’t notice any pain at all. Energy level still isn’t that great, hopefully I will get there soon.
1 TBS psyllium husk in water
Breakfast: smoothie with baby spinach, 1 frozen banana, strawberries, raspberries, and orange juice.
Snack: gala apple
Lunch: salad with baby lettuces, bean sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, flax seed oil and vinegar.
Snack: Lara bar
Snack: coleslaw
Dinner: shredded zucchini and beet with tomato sauce, and 2 red cabbage rolls with kim chee, guacamole, marinated portabello and Vidalia onions (LOVE these rolls)

Hi Everybody,
I had a good day today - I weighed myself this morning and I've lost 3.5 lbs this week past week. I have quite a bit of energy and just feel really peaceful over the last few days. I've also noticed that I concentrate and make decisions much more quickly.
Today I had a smoothie with banana, kale, blueberry, cherries, coconut oil and cacao. It ended up too thick and I had to eat it with a spoon. I need to cut up my pineapple so I can go back to that in my smoothie tomorrow. I had more watermelon soup for lunch -- I seriously can't get enough of the stuff! I also had some macadamia nuts, 2 dates and a Lara bar today. I've been realizing that I'm not including enough greens in my normal day, so tomorrow I'm planning to have a salad for lunch to get in some more veggies.
Rufassa - I originally tried to transition from a SAD to a 70% raw diet back in January. I had already cut out most red meat before this, but still ate chicken and turkey. I tried several different ways - eating raw until dinner, eating raw every other day, etc. The problem for me is that I still had a lot of cravings when I was still eating some SAD, so I thought it would be best to go 100%. This is the 2nd challenge I've done (the first one I didn't finish), and my plan once I finish this month is to stay 100% raw until Thanksgiving, and then see how I feel.
Have a great night!
Foods eaten:
2 bananas in shake with 1 tlbs of almond butter & 1 tlbs. Of cocoa
3 peaches
5 medjool dates

not that I'll necessarily be relieved and in a hurry to get it over with... I think I'm learning a lot about listening to my body and to all of you and your ideas. :) This has been good!
Brought another big jug of carrot juice to work. (Bizarrely, maybe because of its sugar content, it helped me get through afternoon coffee cravings. I haven't gotten a lot of sleep lately.) Also a salad with dulse sprinkles, two bananas and a jalapeno burger.
I got another cookbook, Matthew Kenney's Every Day Raw. His and Sarmas Raw Food Real World was the first raw book I got (and then I bought almost all of the others, incl Alissa's) and I loved the recipes but didn't like how expensive and fattening they were. I read and studied the recipes in the new book, and they're slightly less expensive, slightly easier and maybe slightly less fattening... I was kind of hoping for cheap and quick and low calorie. By now, though, I think I understand the purpose of ingredients well enough to substitute and make stuff up. The book may be worth it just for the mango wraps, though... I haven't tried them, but OMG, they look delicious. This weekend I think I will try one of Alissa's meat substitutes. I think I've done the jalapeno burger a hundred ways already. (I like to add soaked shiitake mushrooms, sunflower seeds and miso.) Anyone here got a favorite burger recipe from Alissa?

Greetings everyone!!!
I'm struggling a bit...realized that I need to have some things made to grab when busy with the kids and etc., and not to run out of those nutrient dense avos!!! ....Getting ready to head out of town next week...thinking about what to take etc....my body does feel so much better on Raw!
Big GS this morning!
Salad and crackers and The bomb cheese for later...also going to make RP Brownies {recipe in recipe forum} and Alissas mushroom nut loaf..mmmmm
BTW: I did get Alissas book spiral bounded with a clear plastic sheet on the front and back...all for about $5.00 at our local copy shop!!!! I LOVE IT! it lays flat! So much easier to use now!!!!!! Yay! I'd recommend it!!! Make a great Raw day! Deb

petaltothemetal--I made Alissa's Walnut Mushroom Loaf, formed it into burgers, and dehydrated a couple of hours. (I decided to make mine with mostly pecans and some sunflower seeds instead of walnuts). Tastes like a yummy cooked veggie burger. Good portabello overtones, moist inside. It's very basic in ingredients and flavor, which I like a lot! I already have a variation in mind for next time. I bet it would be good with a curry sauce, too!
I dodged the eating out bullet last night, and ended up waiting till I got home at 9:00 to eat. Consequently, didn't eat much b/c it was so close to bedtime. Really hungry today!
Last night D--1/2 jalapeno burger; banana split: banana split both lengthwise and horizontally. Drizzled with almond butter and cacao/honey sauce, sprinkle of chopped pecans, pinch of sea salt
Sleep:7 hrs
Water: 92 oz
Today B--green smoothie: 2 small peaches, 1/2 c blueberries, double handful spinach, pumpkin/flax/hemp seeds, dash stevia
L--2 mushroom burgers over bed of spinach, cherry tomatoes, red onion, drizzle olive oil
S--banana or apple (didn't eat either yesterday afternoon)

Good morning everyone, looks like fall is on the way to the beautiful mountains of Colorado. The nights are getting cooler and the leaves are already starting to change in the high country:) Things have been busy with finishing packing my daughter up for college. We leave for Salem Oregon on Sunday and my husband and I will be doing some sight seeing after dropping my daughter off at school. We are going to do some things in Oregon and then go spend a couple of days in Glacier Nat Park. It will be nice to do some things instead of just dropping her off and heading back for home. Okay, enough rambling...

Today I will stick to all fruits and vegetables. The various sprouts and crackers made me feel heavy over the last couple of days.
So far I had a banana/canteloupe/spinach smoothie. Lunch will probably be a big salad with avo, and this evening I'll have another fruit/greens smoothie. I hope to get my wheatgrass juicer soon along with the spiral cutter I ordered. I want to make the zucchini spaghetti and tomato sauce. Other than that, I don't really have a desire to maka anything that is supposed to resemble SAD food. I happily nourish my body exclusively with salads, smoothies, and juices.

I hope you get your stuff soon. I have been using my spiralizer to make zucchini spaghetti a lot lately. When you get it you will have to try the sauce I have been making lately. It is easy and different. All it is is one mango processed with one large tomato, a small amount of basil, and 1/2 of a red pepper cut up separate and then mixed into the sauce. Very different tasting.
Anyone here got a favorite burger recipe from Alissa?
Don't know about a favorite burger recipe as I have only made one of Alissa's so far which was ok (carrot/peacan burger) as it seemed to fall apart easy but the sauce that went with it was incredible which is the curry sauce on page 373.

Hello, Hope everyone had a great day. :)
Breakfast : green grapes, cucumbers
Lunch: Raw spaghetti
Dinner: Salad with brocolli, spinach, parsley
I feel better today because I ate more. It's getting really expensive to eat like this though!! I've got to buy cheap fruits and start doing GS, but I'm just not in the mood for GS... Maybe I'll get out my brother's juicer and try it out instead. Might work better for me to juice some of the stuff together. Got some SUNFLOWER SEEDS again today and they are soaking now. I'm hoping that I can make a pate or maybe just eat them plain with salt.
Does parsley taste strong to any of you? I don't think I care for parsley that much. At least not with my salad... I LOVE cilantro though. ;)

Vaclare79, I'm just the opposite of you, I LOVE the taste of parsley (flat leaf more than the curly variety). The smell and taste of cilantro is too strong for me.

Parsley isn't too strong to you?? I think maybe it was something else in it that I put in the mixture of marinara that might have overpowered the taste of everything.. Maybe I'll try parsley again tomorrow. :)
Have you tried eggplant before?? I've seen it at the farm I go get my vegetables from, but I've never tried it before and most people have fixed it fried so I don't know how it tastes raw.... I'm sure it's good though if made right.

I love cilantro too! I eat it in all of my salads. Like parsley when I make raw tabouli. You should make the refried bean recipe out of your seeds if you haven't tried that yet. You will have to do a search on here for the recipe but it is here somewhere.
Today I took my kids to summer school and then worked out at the gym. I also did some shopping. Overall it was a good day. I am still debating about making a banana shake but it will put me over my fat limit if I do that so I am debating. Foods eaten:
3 peaches
Black seedless grapes
5 cherry tomatoes (that I grew – yummy!)
Large garden salad with squeezed lemon and ½ avocado and veggies
1 cup of blueberries

Hi Everybody,
Glad to see that you are all still here and doing well! I had another great day being raw but I think I've been detoxing quite a bit over the last two days. I have a lot of mucus draining (gross I know) and a bit of a sore throat. Otherwise I feel great and have plenty of energy!
I had pineapple with some coconut flakes on it for breakfast, a Raw Crunch bar, watermelon soup, green beans and two chocolate truffles today. I was on the go a lot today so didn't really think too much about food. I think I said yesterday that I was going to have a salad for lunch, but that didn't happen today. Tomorrow I'll have one for sure!

I can't believe how many calories are in dates and one tablespoon of almond butter! If nothing more tracking my food in nutridiary has really opened up my eyes to how many calories I must have been consuming before.

Well... happy RAWk'n mornin to all!! Last night dh and I had a wonderful raw spring roll with a dipping sauce... great meal -- actually so easy to fix ... but chopping all those veggies into beautiful teeny tiny slivers can get to be a bit tedious! So when I do prepare spring rolls.... I ALWAYS chop way extra veggies -- then I can have left overs or throw them in salads... stuff like that -- once they're done - it saves me so much time the next day or for other meals!!
Lunch today - onion bread sandwhich with left over veggies from the spring rolls... my avo is not ready - bummer... but I do have a corn salsa which is slammin... so that will be yummy. I might go home for lunch and throw together some eggless egg salad - that's quick and simple... we'll see...
I also have some groats ready to make ALISSA's fantabulous pizza... I'll get that into the D later today --- YUMMMMM!!! Dinner tomorrow is going to be sooo good... ya'll are invited!! teheeee!!

ooo I wanna go!!! it sounds like soo much fun! (especially the petting zoo and farmers market!)
so far Thick... my skin is really changing -- it feels softer, and I'm losing some of the puffiness in my face. I also noticed my stomach is not as 'bloated' as it was before. and ... I'm not sure if I'm imagining it or not -- but my hair seems to have hit a growth spurt... my hair is long - and is about at the top of my hips and has been for about 3 or 4 years... today I noticed when I was drying it -- it's grown and is just to the top of my *blush* bottom.. butt... 'popo' (as we call it here in hawaii!)... my fingernails seem the same though - they're still short and kinda thin.
The last two nights i've also slept a little better - which is nice. I feel more rested when I wake up.

I went out to the college to get my financial aid and classes taken care of, saw a counselor and I will be graduating soon with my associate's degree this spring then graduating at the university I am attending also with my bachelor's degree soon afterwards, sometime during 2009 year. So, I am happy TODAY about what I ate and got what I needed to get done for school today. :)
I still have the weird leg numbness and I am having cravings for MEAT when I've always thought meat was gross!!!
I HATE how having cravings even when I'm not hungry, it's mental & emotional thing because of the smells bringing back memories of good times and makes me want to eat that food, especially the bread. I have been eating mustard ( I don't think it's raw ) French's yellow mustard because I've been craving hot dogs/hamburgers off the grill like I used to eat sometimes during summertimes.. It's hard to eat 100% raw, but aside from the mustard ;) I'm doing completely raw so I guess I'm ok.
Hope everyone else is having a good week so far.
Hi=)
Today=
B-gs w/ spinach and banana
S-walnuts and salty cucumbers
L-cucumber sandwiches w/ lettuce and jalapeno pecan spread
S-farmer's market booty
D-dinner w/Grambo..probably Jason's deli salad bar
Busy day..Old McDonalds farm with girls and Grambo (pony rides, pools, animal petting and feeding, playgrounds etc) and farmers market. Busy, but all very fun stuff.
What kindsof improvements have you guys seen so far with this challenge?
To answer your previous question from yesterday. I am counting calories/doing ratios in nutridiary cause I have been at a plateau in my weight for sometime now and I know I was consuming way too much fat before so I am trying a new raw diet. Tracking it is making me more aware of what I am putting into my body and making me eat a bit differently.

Hi Everybody,
I hit sort of a slump today and nothing I had seemed to appeal to me. I think my taste buds are changing - I finally got the salad at work that I've been telling myself to have all week, and it tasted really horrible to me, like they didn't wash the vegetables. I also noticed that I was unconsciously thinking about cooked food today. I was standing outside the cafeteria reading the day's menu and then a lightbulb went off that I don't eat cooked food! :)
So far I've had some weight loss, I have more energy and I am more positive. I really haven't noticed anything else yet. I'm really hoping that my skin will clear up soon. I've had problems with acne since I was a teenager and I haven't been able to do anything to make it go away. Anyone else with this problem? I'm wondering how long before I start to see some changes and get that glow that I read about in other posts.
My food for the day - smoothie with pineapple, spinach, cherries, coconut oil, cacao and agave, two salads, guacamole, 2 bananas and a Lara bar. I also had my last chocolate truffle - I seriously have to order more of those! It really helps me get through the day when I have cravings.
Hope everyone has a great night!

I was going to post in my blog, but I had to come and check what day it was. Wow, Day 13?
I'm feeling good, I had enough energy to shampoo my carpets yesterday, hence the lack of entry in my journal. I kept shampooing until it was time to bring it back this morning, lol. The water just never seems to get any cleaner.
My foods today were:
B: nectarine, grapes
S: Cherries
L: 1/2 avocado
D: mushrooms, stuffed with avocado, tomato, onion mixture and topped with marinated chopped mushroom stems (still eating it :))
Later on today I'll still have my smoothie, since it's only 5:30 here. :)

Chiggers - if you are squeemish you won't want to read this ... eewwww! Ok, I never knew what chiggers were either (I grew up in Northern IL. and never heard of such a thing). Apparently they are somewhat common here in the south. They are the larva of a mite that burrows into a pore in your skin and will stay there for about two weeks until it matures and then drops off OR you can paint the GIANT ITCHY welts with clear nail polish and suffocate them and they are almost gone within a couple of days (we chose the second option:o ). Once we clear the part of the land we are going to build on it should really help. We were clearing brush so we were in the thick of it.
I'll check in with y'all tomorrow!
Blessings,
Heather

Have you tried eggplant before?? I've seen it at the farm I go get my vegetables from, but I've never tried it before and most people have fixed it fried so I don't know how it tastes raw.... I'm sure it's good though if made right.
I’ve tried eggplant cooked before but I think you have to salt it and let is sit to take out the bitterness. I’ve heard that baby or Japanese eggplants are very good but I haven’t tried them. And I’ve never tried them raw yet. I think maybe I saw a recipe in Alissa’s book that called for eggplant.
Saturday we worked out on the piece of property we bought and my hubby and I got into some chiggers - Ugh!
I’ve had the unfortunate experience of being bitten by chiggers before. They are extremely tiny bugs that really make you itch when they bite. I’ve heard some people talk about no-see-ums and I wonder if they are the same thing. Not sure.
What kinds of improvements have you guys seen so far with this challenge?
Changes have been pretty subtle so far for me. I think I’m very slowly going through detox. I’ve had symptoms of fibromyalgia which has been helped tremendously by my previous diet. I’ve still had noticeable pain in my hands and fingers but it’s been better the last few days. I noticed yesterday that the pain in my leg and hip joints has diminished as well.
1 TBS psyllium husk in water
Breakfast: smoothie with baby spinach, banana, blueberries, 4 dates, and 1 TBS flaxseed meal
Snack: gala apple
Lunch: salad with baby lettuces, angel hair beets, and alfalfa sprouts with creamy Italian dressing
Snack: Lara bar
Snack: almonds
Dinner: 3 red cabbage rolls with kim chee, avocados, marinated portabello and Vidalia onion
Snack: watermelon
Snack: fudge balls

Before we moved here to GA a few years ago we lived in FL and we had something there called no-see-ums which are irritating but not the same thing as chiggers here in GA. The no-see-ums in FL ... the bites go away naturally in a few days. Not the case with chiggers here. LOL, sorry didn't mean to hyjack the thread.

The eggplant is bitter when raw? I guess I might wanna wait on that one since I don't know what it's like..

Are you drinking a lot of smoothies ? I ate a lot today and I'm wondering now if it was a good variety even if I eat it for the next week? I'm still new to raw foods so I'm still trying to gain more information on how it all works out nutrition wise, rotating different fruit/vegs/greens and combining them. I ate about (at least) a half pound of spinach today, raw spaghetti *tomatoes/garlic* over zucchini (about 2/3 zucchinis a day) lately been my favorite thing to eat.. Green grapes and at least 2 cucumbers a day. At least a 1/2 cup I'd say more of the sunflower seeds today. I wonder still if I'm getting enough nutrients lol.. Or, am I just being a raw pig? :D

This morning I had a smoothie, lunch was a salad with sprouts and greens, dinner was soup (warmed water with miso paste, chopped mushrooms, and ground flax/sunflower/pumpkin seeds for thickening & lots of spices). Just needed something warm, yet still raw.

your intake sounds pretty good to me. I wouldn't worry to much about it. Listen to your body. If it is hungry eat! As long as you are giving your body raw foods you are probably better off than a million other things you could be feeding it. I have been raw almost 2 years now and the only reason I am tracking things is because I hit a road block (weightloss) and needed to cut back. I lost 90 pounds on eating raw eating whatever I wanted and felt great - never deprived or lacking nutrients. I don't think you need to worry. Really!

Good morning fellow rawbies. Haven't much time to read how any of you are doing here but I will try tonight.
My breakfast so far: Best "Raw" Coffee Ever! Yummy! I added a banana, and I soaked my cashews like a good girl.:)
I am reading something I put up on my desk that I copied from this forum to inspire me. I am pretty sure dakinimind wrote it.

I decided last night that I needed to kick coffee. I cut drastically back, but I was still drinking it. Also I want to do a master cleanse but it would be unsafe for me to jump right in to it because I already go around tired and dizzy and I have a history of passing out and having seizures. I drive a lot for my job and have three fairly long drives coming up by the end of the month for personal reasons, also. So this is what I decided to do:
NO COFFEE. Master cleanse drink in morning and mid afternoon after lunch when I start to slump. Also will take the Smooth Move tea at bedtime, even though it's no more raw than my coffee was and even though constipation is NOT!!!!! a problem of mine. All my "food" will be fruit and veggie smoothies with no nuts or sweeteners until I feel like I'm ready to either kick it up a notch or go back to regular raw food.
I have plenty of energy so far but my head feels like it has too tight a helmet on it. I don't know if this is coffee detox or if it's a symptom of a previous injury to 3 neck disks, which causes all kinds of weird sensations and pains that vary from day to day.
I had a spinach/banana/kiwi/ginger smoothie last night and this morning I've been sipping on a monster sized mango/banana/cantaloupe/cardamom/ginger smoothie. I also brought more of the spinach one and more master cleanse with me. I forgot I had several raw peanut/cocoa/carob cookies stashed in my desk and I did eat those an hour ago, hoping it'd get rid of the helmet head, but I'm afraid it did not.
Oh, well, I'll stick it out.

Hi all! Well, I started the day with watermelon ... oh so good and refreshing. I am about to try my hand at avocado cacao pudding and I'm going to do some uncooking this afternoon ... I think some ritz crackers and some RP's Brownies for sure. I would like to come up with a good wrap options to easily send a veggie wrap with my hubby for lunch (If any of you has a good recipe please do share). It will be a large salad for dinner. I hope those of you that aren't feeling well are able to get a little extra rest and feel better tomorrow :) .

This is so true and beautiful. I have copied it and have it on my desk too. Thanks for passing it along. I am also giving it to my co worker who is doing some rawness.
So dh made the smoothie this morning so not sure was in it maybe cantaloup, watermelon, pineapple not really sure but it was good. So while he was making that I was whipping up some ritz crackers and mexican crackers. I was making the lime pepper but didn't have all the ingredience so he was running to the store so I can finish them when I get home. We also have to make some corn chips for the tacos on sat and I am going to bring onion dip. You know when we had the tacos last week or whenever it was I really didn't miss the cheese or sour cream it was so good. I think I may make some cheese for this weekend just for show and make everyone see this is much better food. I am in charge of the cole slaw.
So I had a salad for lunch w/french dressing that was good. I was wondering if you can use olive oil in stead of the flax oil?
Dinner is always a mystery but I think I may have the rest of the choc peanutbutter icecream that is if dh didn't get to the last bit.
Well have a grawt day everyone.

Rox

Hi Everybody,
I'm still here and doing well. I had some wheatgrass this morning, and then ate a few bananas. I also had a Raw Crunch bar, some raisins (how do I know if they are raw? I bought organic raisins for some of Alissa's recipes, but none of the packages said raw on it?) I had a LOT of cravings for cooked food today. When I got home from work I had three raw pickles, two olives and then an ear of corn. Not sure it was the best combination, but it sure hit the spot regardless how strange it was!
On Friday night, I am going to a friend's house for a party. He was planning to get pizza for everybody (which my SAD hubby is thrilled about) and another friend is bringing an ice cream cake. Could there be any more temptation?! I am heading out to the store in a few minutes to pick up everything for watermelon soup. Hopefully that will hold me over tomorrow night!
Have a good night!

My understanding is if the raisins are SUNDRIED they are raw. I was pleased to find that one of the grocery stores here carries a store brand of organic sundried raisins (it's Kroger, I don't know if they have those by you).

Well, I had a pretty good afternoon... but I never seem to get as much done as I would like. I did get some Ritz crackers in the dehydrator and made the avocado cacao pudding. So, I'm looking forward to some of those crackers for lunch tomorrow with some of the Rich Cheddar Sauce and sliced tomatoes and sprouts ... mmmm. Sadly, I don't care for the pudding and neither do my children - oh well. They love my chocolate chia pudding :) . Hope you all are doing well!

mmaynard, I know how hard it is to deal with those cravings. Hang in there because they will go away if you don’t give in to the temptation. Eat something raw when you get those cravings and concentrate on how wonderful your raw food tastes and how good it is for your body. You are doing GREAT!!!
Got up at 5:00 am instead of sleeping in until 6:00 am. :) Did some stretches.
Breakfast: smoothie with baby spinach, 4 dates, orange juice, flax seed, banana, and blueberries
Snack: 2 small red apples and an orange cut up with ½ lemon juice
Lunch: Salad with baby lettuce, red onion, angel hair beets, alfalfa sprouts, parsley, green pepper, and pumpkin seeds with French dressing from Alissa’s book.
Also had some easy coleslaw also from Alissa’s book
Snack: Lara bar
Snack: almonds
Dinner: angel hair zucchini and angel hair beets with tomato sauce
Snack: fudge balls
Picked up a few groceries on the way home from work. I got a bag of collard greens cheap because the expiration date was today. They were already cut into strips so I used them in place of Kale in the Kale salad recipe in Alissa's book. I'll see how it tastes tomorrow after it marinates. I made some more of the easy slaw as there are a bunch of campers visiting over at my FIL and MIL's home which is just up the driveway. I'm prepared in case they decide to do a potluck dinner. If not, there will just be more for me and my DH.

Traveling. Planned fairly well. Stopped at a store picked up some vegies for a salad. Prepared trail mix for on the road travel.
Today I ran my daughter to summer school and then worked out at the gym. I also did some grocery shopping and stocked up on stuff to bring on vacation for us all to eat. THen I came home and made RAwvolutions summer corn salad for dinner which was so good. I really missed having it! Tomorrow is my 16 year wedding anniversary and in a few days from now I am leaving to go on vacation so I will not be able to post. We are renting a small cottage so I can bring my food with me. I will be gone for only a week and I picked up a nice selection of fruit/veggies to bring with me and most likely I will be doing a lot of mono eating just to make it easier cause I won't have my blender of food processor with me. Foods eaten:
2 bananas
Apple, spinach, carrot and beet smoothie
1 cup Grapes
1 peach
3 cups of Ravolutions Summer corn salad
¾ cup of blueberries
So I had a salad for lunch w/french dressing that was good. I was wondering if you can use olive oil in stead of the flax oil?
Luv,

Good morning! I'm off to the grocery store today to stock up. I'm not feeling great this morning but I would say it's mostly a chiropractic issue (I'm hoping I can get in today). I'm about to get my ritz crackers out of the dehydrator - mmmm... they smell so good.
SO... food for the day:
GS
Ritz crackers with Rich Cheddar Sauce sliced tomato and sprouts
2 pieces of fruit (to be determined)
Large Salad
RP's Brownies (if I get around to making them this afternoon)

Yesterday I got my spiral slicer in the mail. I promptly made zucchini spaghetti with my own version of marinara for lunch. Boy was it ever good. I'll do the same again today. The zucchini in my garden are going gangbusters, so as long as the tomatoes keep up, there is lots of the same in my future. Other than that I had a GS in the morning and a salad for dinner, with guac & flax chips in between. Also made some wheatgrass juiice, and my rejuvelac was finally done fermenting, so I used that in my smoothie.
Today will be pretty much the same as yesterday.

Good morning.
Yesterday after quitting coffee I had the sensation of wearing a helmet that was too tight all day. I wasn't sure if it was the coffee withdrawel or a previous neck injury since my neck and shoulders have been hurting all week. Anyway, I did NOT give up and try drinking coffee to see if it would go away. I DID take two ibuprofen though, because the pain was affecting my ability to work. I drank smoothies and master cleanse all day and went home and made guacamole and salsa to eat with yellow bell peppers and dehydrator crackers. I also made the ugliest smoothie in the entire world and I still have some of it left but couldn't make myself bring it in to work because I thought people would make fun of me! The smoothie was: pak choi, tat soi, mizuna (dark green Oriental mustardy/cabbagey greens from my garden) with two tomatoes and a green onion. Then, because I STILL had watermelon lime juice from the weekend because I made a ton, thinking my daughter would drink some, I poured a lot of that in, too. Then I added ginger and cayenne, thinking I'd end up with some Thai version of gazpacho. It tastes almost ok  but looks like vomit:eek: so I hid the rest in the back of the refrigerator. I'm too "responsible" to not drink it all up, but I don't want to see it!
This morning I had more master cleanse drink and a little cantaloupe/mango/banana/cardamom/ginger smoothie. I brought the rest of that to work along with a peach/mango/ginger smoothie, a bunch of baby tomatoes, a lara bar and some flax crackers. I brought extra because if my hip and head stop hurting I'm going to the gym after work. Now I just have to keep myself from downing it all early because I'm bored!

I'll have a GS and some crackers I think before heading to the grocery. I plan to make Alissa's watermelon soup and some more of RP Brownies {so good and easy}....I will also make some more dressing, I am lovin' big salads with the seasons abundance of delicious tomatos and cukes and herbs....I do feel good today.....have to work within a tight budget for the next week or so, but will do......Heather...I hope you can get into the Chiro and that you feel better....I also hear it takes about a month for the back to school routine to settle in...we start after Labor day, so we'll be starting all that up just as you are all cozy in a routine! Whew! Have a great day everyone!

But I had forgotten to say that last night I had the Kelp noodles...I made an asian style sauce, substituting for mainly Raw ingredients {used cashew butter, garlic, dash of agave and cider vinegar, oh I did put in a dash of dark sesame oil {not Raw though}.....put it all in the dehydrator for several hours and it was very very satisfying and filling. I like that the Kelp noodles keep for a while...I had actually gotten them this Spring from someone who had bought a case and didn't like them!
I also have walnuts and sundried tomatoes soaking for the jalepeno burgers that I must try today!
Then it is to make the watermelon soup later...my kids think that sounds neat! I have a feeling they will like it too!....Deb

I had a taste for some Sea food, so I searched the thread and found a receipe from Tanja for some RAW Paella and let me tell you it is SOOOO GOOD!!!! Simply to LIVE FOR!!!! It took me a few trips to find the Saffron, but well worth the effort!
I made a HUGE bowl full, so I'm gonna munch on that through out the day between smoothies!!! The Marinated Mushrooms really set the whole thing off!!!!
Have a RAWsome day everyone!!!

I made a green grape/baby spinach smoothie for breakfast.. It was really sweet. I'm not into the sweet stuff right now. I'm just now trying out some smoothies. I need to do more of them so I can fix my stomach issues.
I think later I will have a more savory smoothie with the spinach/tomatoes/garlic and maybe some basil.
Have a good day everyone :)

Hi=)
Didn't post yesterday not because I was off in cheat land, but because 'm just kind of down lately. I know it's detox--as I have about 20 years of serious depression to get through...I'm not crying, just feeling low and overwhelmed.
Today has been/will be=
-gs-spinach and banana
-caesar salad w/ extra lemon
-butternut squash spanish rice w/a lot of cilantro & tomatoes
-honeydew melon
-"Ritz" chocolate cookies warm from dehydrator w/ glass of almond milk
Renee, I am planning on making that paella soon. Is it the same recipe as this?= http://freshtopia.net/vlog/?p=114
Vaclare, I love savory smoothies, too. My favorites so far are salsa verde (avacado, cilantro, lime, garlic, salt) and bloody mary (celery, sundried tomatoes, garlic, nama shoyu, jalapeno, lemon). Yours sounds like a pesto one--yum!
Deberaw, can you buy the kelp noodles in an asian grocery or hfs? Or do you have to order them online?
Heather, I am a homeschooling mom, too. This is the first year I will have two kids learning at the same time. Pre-K (she's ready) for my four year old and 5th grade for my son. I'm not sure if I have enough hours in the day. I think I might have to wake up earlier and get the bulk of my work done before anyone wakes up. Thanks to raw, I might have the energy to do it all=)>
Petaltothemetal, I used to be a heavy coffee drinker, too. I know how hard it is to quit. What I did was to gradually increase the amount of decaf until I was drinking al decaf. Then, after a couple of weeks of decaf, I switched to an herbal tea- roasted dandelion root. Of course it's not raw, but it does taste like coffee without all the negative effects of decaf. Nowadays, I can't even believe that I can start the day out with just water or a smoothie, But it does happen! Cocoa/maca shakes will help, too.
Emma, I am so envious of your zucchini. I planted some but it just died....The only thing that made it from my garden this year is okra. Live and learn..I'm just glad that I am learning before we need a garden..kwim?
Emma-Liza, I miss you!=)>
I hope everyone else checks in today, too=)>

Yes, the savory smoothies are great. I made two this morning.. About 3 cups or so. Was so yummy with garlic. :)
I'm feeling kind of down today too... I haven't been doing raw long, but I have to figure out what else to make since I've been eating the same things over and over. I just blended up some sunflower seeds that I soaked overnight and it was so yummy, but yesterday I noticed I didn't digest very well so hoping that today they would have gotten better digested/absorbed nutrients.. I hate to waste food that way. I thought the green grape/spinach was alright. A little too sweet so only drank about a cup of that one. I've got to do more green smoothies and been looking at the recipes lately trying to figure out which ones I want to try first.. I have some food allergies/intolerances which I'm so hoping will go away & not develop any more!
The cravings for cooked foods is so bad and lately since it's been summertime everyone gets together and eats even though they'll share a salad with me it's hard to avoid smelling and salivating over their food too... Old food habits are hard huh?
I'm really wondering how much green smoothies should be drank in a day if doing only green smoothies? About a whole vitamix full ? 1 to 2lbs of greens?

ughhh...I have a headache! didn't eat much before I ran to the grocery...went to library first with kids...boys are doing the reading incentive program and they were due for a prize....but spent a lot of time between that and the grocery and my 3 boys were wild, wild Indians there! Whew! My youngest is napping so I took a second to sit down....but now I have to tackle the kitchen....I am also planning on making some sun-dried tomato crackers {recipe from 'Living Cusine'}......
Thick: The Kelp Noodles are from Sea Tangle co. They sell buy the case on-line. Some lucky folks can find them at their Whole Foods. There are many threads about the Kelp noodles....I don't like them plain...but seasosned and dehydrated...yummmy!
ReneeH: A Raw Paella? Wow that sounds good! Thank you for the info...I'm going to check that out too...
OKay...off to revive now....Deb

Me too...I am feeling like it is so unfair that everyone around me gets to eat whatever they want (and they do) or take a nap anytime they want..or drink coffee etc..I know it will pass but still I'm feeling slighted--which is why my dehydrator has chocolate cookies in it atm=)>

Deberaw, would you say the kelp noodles are better than squash noodles? Are they just healthier? Would they fool a sad eater?I'm going to call my wf and ask if they carry them.

Dear Thick....if you like Thai type rice or vermecilli noodles, then you'll like these. They are more dense and filling, I think than veggie noodles. Just out of the package though...they are kind of wierd...clear, crunchy but tasteless...kinda damp.... If you like asian type noodles, then the recipe on the back of the package using Raw ingredients and dehydrating for 2-3 hours more or less, would fool SAD eater...I enjoyed them over some spinach too....
Everyone is doing their body so good!!! Keep it up...all those SAD eaters are not! You're doing great!

Oh, I am so glad a lot of people are posting today. Thick, I love your posts and it's hard to imagine you being depressed, ever. You put on a good front, huh? But I guess that's how you gained weight (me, too), by using food instead of other means to make yourself feel better. I don't really mind that other people get to eat whatever they want... I've not been raw very long (went 50% last May, only recently stepped it up) but have had ISSUES with food for a very long time. Lost my third pregnancy to listeria in 1995 and never quite recovered physically. (I gained my first 30 pounds in the stress and heartache afterwords and another 30 pounds in the stress over the move across country.) My problem now is I want to fix ALL OF US, NOW. You, me, my boyfriend, my daughter, my mom... I kind of wanted to fix everyone before, when I turned back to natural foods in '96, but now that I'm raw, I really need to take a deep breath and let go... I don't want other people's pizzas, I want to shake some SENSE into them, and I'm only partially kidding! :D
Well today is my 16th year wedding anniversary. We are going out tonight to celebrate but not sure where yet.
Today's foods so far:
2 bananas
3 cups of cherries
carrot, apple, beet, and spinach smoothie
