I mean, is there a list of what fruits/veggies are in season at any particular time?

I used to get organic apples at around $1.50 a pound and now they're $3.00 a pound. So I don't do them anymore. I'm buying less and less organic every day.

What's in season? I'll try to look for a website.

I can't afford organic so I don't buy it at all. I wish I could afford it but right now we have had alot of problems with our house and it is now under construction and the foundation has been dug up - so (feeling a bit sorry for myself and trying to be raw with no kitchen/appliances is a bit rough let alone organic). In season now - good question. Are you talking about fruits or veges? Fruit should be berries and peaches I would imagine? Veges would be summer squash and cucs and tomatoes? Let us know what you find. Thanks.

In season in summer: berries, chard, cherries, corn, cucumbers, melons, green beans, nectarines, peaches, peppers, tomatoes, summer squash and zucchini, grapes and apricots

Apples are in season in fall. Also in the fall: grapes, broccoli, pears, peppers, squash, and sweet potatoes and yams

Winter: bananas, broccoli, cabbage, grapefruit, kale, kiwi, oranges, tangerines, mustard greens

Spring: apricots, cherries, strawberries, pineapple, mangoes and papaya and peas

Excellent question RawPaw... and thank you Raw Yogini for such a stellar answer!!

and here in Hawaii - which might be true in other tropical areas... like say costa rica, jamaica, or florida....

in season right now (summer) we've got liliquoi, mangos, avocados, sapote, lychee, rambutan, dragon fruit, corn, sour sop, pineapple, watermelon, strawberries, mountain apples, raspberries....

what I cannot find right now is Durian (not that I would look for that - ack!) cherimoya, and star fruit.

I think for us - year round we have bananas, papayas, coconuts and avocados! yummmm!!

Here's a "harvest calendar" I found online. You can find out what harvests in your state at various months.

I don't know where you are in the US (or even if you are there), but I know when I lived in New England, the tomatoes would go on crazy sales on farms in late Aug/early Sept because that was the peak of the season. I LOVED that time of year and would make lots of fresh and oh-so-tasty tomato sauces.

I am having such a ball with the farmers market right now -- do you have one in your area? Anywhere nearby? You'll find good deals and soak in exactly what is in season in your area...

Oh, Starfire, I would LOVE to be in Hawaii!! Yummy! Do you get cherries, peaches or berries (besides strawberries), just curious.
