View Full Version : Starting another fast

Well I'm starting another extended fast. This time I'm planning on going for 13-20 weeks (http://aleeshasrawlife.blogspot.com/2008/07/fasting-goal.html)... fasting not feasting. I'll be doing water some days, dry-fasting other days (obviously drinking large amounts of water the next day to rehydrate after my dry-fast) and juicing as well. Just taking it one day at a time for spiritual reasons rather than health reasons like my last extended feast was.
I'd love to have any other people who are fasting, feasting etc come on over and join me. I'll continue posting in the Juice Feasting thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=41394) simply for continuity as I think it's a great thread with sooooo much information in it already.
So please... come on over and let's support each other!
love and light,
Aleesha

Aleesha, me again, have you ever juiced a zucchini? Do you think there is any benefit to doing so? I have so many beautiful zukes right now, I' d hate to not use them while fasting.
Okay, I might be getting annoying now, but I answered my own question. On line I read:
ZUCCHINI JUICE
Traditionally Used For:
Bladder Problems Body Coolant
Internal Cleanser Kidneys
Thirst Quencher
A Good Source Of:
Calcium Potassium Vitamin B-1 & 2

So when you juice feast do you use one or two fruits/veggies to juice or do you use as many different varieties as you want? Just curious.

variety is the spice of life! although honestly, i find that my 'flow' tends to involve watermelon, pineapple and tomatoes LOL but i'm sure it will change as i continue to go with the flow.

I'm so looking forward to juicing again!
I'm on Day 4 of a water fast. I'm shooting for 10 days and I'll see how I feel after that whether to go for 20 or not.

water fasts scare me. i don't do well on them. one day here and there is okay for me, but nothing extended at all. my residual iron levels are too low.
how are you feeling? how's your energy levels?

I'm on Day 5 now. Day 2 & 3 I was lethargic. However, I realized that 20 minutes of Pilates helped immensely with making me feel more awake.
My breath is still rank this morning though not as bad as days 2-4.
Energy level feels good --- not like I'm on cold medicine kind of foggy feeling that I had on 2 & 3.

Ah I'm glad to hear you are feeling okay today. When I did a 5 day water fast.. I went down down down... I could barely stand up. It was bad... so now I do water for one day max.
Of course, once my residual iron levels come up... that may change :P

Aleesha.........You are the Fast/Feasting Queen I do believe. I can't seem to fast for a day let alone multiple days or weeks. My goodness.
Is it safe to fast so much?

Sure it is. I eat very healthy on or off a fast/feast... so it's no problem doing it often. You do, of course, have to listen to your body and what it needs/wants... which I do everytime. I planned to feast for 92 days... my body said "Stop" at day 45... so I did. It's not about the goal of time... it's more about being in touch with your Self.

*giggling* I think it'll need to come with a straw and the crown can hold juice LOL

Ah sometime in the future... I'll probably be fasting... so come on in and join me!!! - And I agree... I'm excited to experience the next 20 weeks... so exciting indeed. Just think of the gifts I'll be giving my Self!

Hi Aleesha,
My name is Debbie and I have been 100% raw for 14 months. I was on the SCD Diet for 5 years before that which cut out all flour, wheat, soy, processed foods, perservatives, additives, etc. Anyway, last summer I was on top of the world feeling so in control and wonderful. I was really feeling great. However, these last couple of months I have been OUT OF CONTROL. (ALL RAW) I gained 15 pounds and I am totally addicted to nuts. I think Im going nuts. I read this forum for the last year all the time. You are REALLY an inspiration. I enjoy reading your answers to all the questions. I'd love to do a juice fast with you. I've only done 5 day juice feasts, however, the last couple of months I can't seem to even get through 1 day. Maybe doing one with you would set me back on track. Please help me!!!!!!
Thank you, Debbie

why don't you come on over to the juice feasting thread and start posting while you get ready to start.
i'm happy to assist you but honestly... it's up to you. you can do it if you set your mind to it. i know you can, after all... you did 5 years on the SCD diet and 14 months on 100% raw... so you can totally use the same skills you used for that and do this.
when do you want to start? have you done a bit of research? reading the juice feasting thread in it's entirety is a GREAT place to start :)
welcome!!!

Hi Aleesha,
I've done so much research. I joined juicefeasting.com and read everything on the site. It took days. I bought angela stokes juice feasting book and read it 3 times. I've read juicefasting and detoxification by steve meyerowitz, read it 2x, The miracle of fasting by Bragg, read the whole thing and the complete idiots guide to fasting and read that too. HAHAHAHA. Boy, if I'm not ready now, I guess I never will be. I actually had a wonderful juicefeasting day today. YAY!! Day 1. I'm psyched. I really want to do this. I did'nt set an amount of time, cause I found the last times I did that, I felt too much pressure. I think I'll just go one day at a time and see what happens, but I feel good today, but then I always feel good the first day. Thank you for responding.

ah... isn't knowledge power!!!
a commitment i make to myself every time i fast is:
i will not break this fast on a bad day. i have to be on a good day to break it.
another i am adding for this fast:
i will not break this fast today. i can break it the day after tomorrow, but not today. this way... i won't break the fast on a whim... (may be an overwhelming whim but not a long thought out process...) i will only break the fast after pondering it for a few days.
welcome to the wonderful world of fasting. it will heal you, take you places, and assist you to experience things in a way you probably have never experienced them before.

remember the first three days are always the most difficult. takes a bit to get your body into the 'groove'. :) be kind and gentle with your Self.

Debbie,
I realize you've read a lot of books... and Angela's book is wonderful... but have you read "Dining from an Empty Bowl (http://www.timelessspirit.com/JULY08/review1.shtml)" by Jeremy Safron? I really love this book and what he shares. Here's a review I wrote on it. It's not an expensive book but soooo worth getting IMO.
I just thought of this and thought I'd share.
(((hugs)))

Hi Aleesha,
No, I do not have that book. Thank you sooooo much. I LOVE READING. I can't read enough. That book will be in my hands today the minute the bookstore opens, uness it's a book I can only purchase online. I thought I had every book about juicing and rawfood there was. Thank you again.

oh you are welcome. Jeremy has another raw food book as well... :D
Raw Truth
The Art of Preparing Living Foods
by Jeremy A. Safron
I'm here...with a reforming of my intentions. I basically had to prove to myself that solid foods are not for me right now and that this is my path, and that I can do this without stress. I did it for a few days last week and felt great; then I had a few days of light eating, and nothing felt or tasted very good. My body definitely still wants to fast.
So I will honor my body. My motivations for doing this fast are for spiritual reasons. I wish to grow deeper in my connection with Spirit. I wish to experience a renewal in my soul as well as my body. I wish I heal.
If I'm going to do this, I decided that I want to DO THIS THROUGHLY. So I will go for 100 days. I like the thought of doing a long fast with people from this site, especially with the more experienced fasters. I will put my heart into it.
I've fasted on water for almost a day and I believe I'd like to break it on some coconut water from a baby coconut...have to go out to get some...
this weekend I will be going camping and drinking fresh orange juice for a few days. I will make it by hand...using a handheld citrus juicer and a strainer to squeeze the pulp away.
I'm very excited about what's to come. Thanks for the support. .

So far so good on the water. I'm keeping my blog updated here with how things are progressing.
I do need to break down and buy a digital scale because my current one shows my weight all over the place in the span of 2 minutes.
