This was their reply when I asked:

Here in North America, flaxseeds are grown in both the United States and Canada. Flaxseeds are harvested around September.
After harvesting, seed cleaning companies will process flaxseeds by using seed cleaning equipment to clean the flaxseeds to a minimum of 99.9% purity (Food grade). Seed cleaning is a process of removing foreign materials from flaxseeds that have been harvested out of the fields. When flaxseeds are harvested out of the fields there are always stems, chaff, rocks, dirt, foreign seeds, etc, caught up in the flaxseeds.
Once the flaxseeds are cleaned to food grade purity they are ready to be sold.
Bob’s Red Mill purchases truckloads of food grade flaxseeds by the truckloads.
Once they arrive at our mill, the whole flaxseeds are either packaged into retail bags, or they are milled into flaxseed meal.
Flaxseed meal is ground flaxseeds.
The process that Bob’s Red Mill uses to manufacture flaxseeds meal is a proprietary method that was developed by the company after years of work.
Flaxseed Meal is milled at a temperature of 80°F
Flaxseed meal is then packaged in opaque packaging that protects the product from direct sunlight.
Bob’s Red Mill does not use chemicals for processing flaxseeds or flaxseed meal.

Thanks! So... as I am reading it, it does appear to actually be raw. (80° F)

i was informed a few months ago not to purchase the ground flax seeds because flax seeds turn rancid very very quickly. although the whole flax seeds are good. thought i should pass the info on...

I buy cheap organic linseed loose from a wholefoods shop. All you need is an ultracheap coffee grinder or a powerful blender and you have ground flax seeds 100% fresh.

Oh I have a coffee grinder, but wanted to know about the flax meal because I had one package left from before I decided to go raw. Also.. I would use them up so quickly, I think, that even if I continued to buy them I don't think they'd go rancid.

But I am also fine with grinding flax seeds in my coffee grinder, too. :D

There are recipes that call for ground up recipes and I wonder if by the time the recipe is done in the Ex-calibur dehydrator, if the ground flax seeds are rancid by then.

Anyone know? I'd sure like the flexibility of using those particular recipes but wonder about that aspect.

And how bad are the health risks of using rancid seeds? ......meanwhile, I keep using the gloopy soaked regular seeds.
