View Full Version : What's for Breakfast

I think I am suffering from information overload... I have read so many books about nutrition, healing and raw food...

One of the concepts that I have seen in a few different places is that of eating/drinking a very light breakfast. some suggest starting with lemon juice and water or something like wheatgrass juice or barley greens to assist the body with detoxification and then followed by a vegetable juice.

Today for example I started with barley greens in water (5:30a.m.. After I did my workout, I had a glass of carrot beet and broccoli juice (7:00). I didn't eat any solid food until about 9:30 which were some flax crackers and I had a second snack (a really yummy peach:D ) at 11:30).

My question is, if I am trying to heal my colin and my liver is doing a morning juice fast helpful? I was programmed that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so I struggle with not having a meal in the morning. On the flip side, I don't notice any excessive hunger or other side effects of not eating. I feel like I really absorb the straight juice this way.

Any insights, comments etc. will be appreciated.

Thank you all for your help and support.:)

Well you have to consider, what injured your colon and liver in the first place? I basically think if you remove what that is, ie. meat, dairy, medicine and then Wait. It will heal over time....

Time heals all wounds right?

As for me, I start each day with hydration. That's always my first priority. So water. Then juicy fruit. Like those yummy peaches....I would eat 2-3 or even 4 in a morning. That's my ideal breakfast. Hydrating, juicy awesomeness.

I find that no matter if I am raw or not, that's The best way to start the day.

Although I am not knocking green smoothies, I don't have a nice enough blender to enjoy them. ...but I do agree with Aleesha in that they are great for you, and that raw food heals.

Mmmmm... I feel weird if I don't have one in the morning. In fact, I make them at night just to make sure that I have some for the following day, in case I'm running late or something. Yummy hydrating fruit sounds great too though. Peaches have been AMAZING this year! Has anyone else noticed that?

Do what feels good to YOU

Green smoothies are ideal for brekkie!

If I do a GS its a huge one, blender sized and lasts me all morning

Otherwise I have lemon water and some fruit, couple of mangoes or something similar

David Wolfe is adamant about having one - two liters of water first in the morning before anything else. Followed by wheatgrass and melon or citrus. then maybe a green smoothie for lunch. Everyone has conflicting advice but I like this routine, works best for me.

I guess it depends on you. My routine changes depending on how I feel or what I am desiring. Sometimes I'm not hungry at all -- then it's water until I feel the slightest hunger. Sometimes I'm salivating for fruit like peaches or a canteloupe or watermelon. Usually I go for a run in the morning, so I come back wanting fruit. Then I digest it pretty quickly and have a green smoothie as soon as I'm hungry next.

I'll tell you -- as someone who once suffered from an ulcer and a very unhappy colon and is feeling GREAT these days -- be as gentle as YOU need. Bananas, canteloupes, an avocado, green juice with CABBAGE especially and NO ginger or spicy stuff like onions, or green smoothies that are NOT spicy or too complicated... these are all probably good options for you depending on where you are in your journey towards healing and high health.

Thanks for all of the tips. I will make a point to try green smoothies in the morning. I had a fruit smoothie today. Felt good. :) I will try cutting down on the spicy elements like onions and garlic in my savory smoothies:( . I like spicy things, but probably not a good idea at this point.

I know what you mean about information overload...when that happened to me, I went back to the basics which for me was....Alissa's book and DVD and keeping it simple. As far as breakfast I lately have been doing mango chunks with broken up pecans on top. The mangos have been really good latly. Good Luck!!!
