My mum and I have a 6yr old male Rottweiler who was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, high colesteral and being over weight at age 5. The vet actually recommended that he eat raw for a few months to lose weight since he couldn't do much exercise as his hips were sore. After about 1 month of eating raw, he had clearly lost weight and seemed that he was moving around a lot easier. After 3 months of eating raw it was like we had a new dog! He wasn't lethargic anymore, his hips weren't giving him ANY (yes, not any!) pain at all, his teeth were white, his coat was really shiney and both his weight and colesteral were at healthy levels. Both myself, mum and the vet were astonished at the results.
However, after 3 months of him eating raw, my mum decided that it wouldn't be necessary anymore and he could go back to eating canned food and left-overs. I tried to persuade her to keep him on a raw diet but she wouldn't listen. Sadly, over the months he got worse, he gained all the weight back on and now his hips are giving him pain again. :(
I know people are going to say "Why don't you just feed him and give him raw food?". I try, but I just get yelled at. It's like my mum is trying to kill our dog! How can I persuade her to let our dog eat raw again? It seems like it'll take for him to die before she sees that i'm right.
