Alissa has a juice recipe for the cramps. I had to send her book back to the lady I borrowed it from. I don't like to take Midol-it dehydrates me and leaves me sooo thirsty. Any good combos out there?:)

Ginger, mint, pineapple - these are are very soothing for cramps.
Also, a warm, not hot, surface applied to the abdomen may help relax the tense muscles as well. This could be a towel with warm water, a heating pad or a hot water bottle.

To ease menstrual cramps, try this blend of apple, celery and fennel juices, suggests naturopathic physician Michael Murray, N.D., in The Complete Book of Juicing: Juice two apples, two celery ribs and one small bulb of fennel. According to Dr. Murray, both celery and fennel are rich in phytoestrogens, which mimic the effects of the female hormone estrogen and may reduce menstrual discomfort. He recommends two eight-ounce glasses of this juice every day, along with proper medical treatment.
Women who suffer cramps may also benefit from drinking fresh pineapple juice, according to Cherie Calbom, M.S., a certified nutritionist in Kirkland, Washington, and co-author of Juicing for Life. “Pineapples are rich in the enzyme bromelain, which is believed to be a muscle relaxant,” says Calbom.

Thanks! Just loaded up on produce. Now I'll get the fennel bulb. I love pineapple but it's sooo expensive- No more than a box of Midol or Pamprin.

I remember doing a modified juice feast during my cycle and as long as I was drinking my juice, I hardly had cramps. Magnesium helps relax your muscles, so green smoothies or juices with lots of greens in them will help you tremendously...plus pineapple helps with reducing the clots. My juice had spinach, parsley, beet greens, wheatgrass, beets, carrots, pineapple, raspberries, blackberries and lemon. It was extremely tasty and it helped me get through a very stressful week! If I knew that homemade juice could do this, I wouldn't have had surgery yrs ago for my 'female problems'...

I just put about one inch of ginger in my smoothies. If you don't want the little fiber pieces in there you can juice it in the juicer.
I go through phases with ginger. I guess it's just my body telling me when I need it. Lately I have been putting it in my Kimchi to make it spicy.
