I made the onion bread from RAWvolution. Mmmmmmmmm.. what a yummy-smelling bread!

But, has anyone else here made it? Did you have to dehydrate it longer than recommended in the book? Mine came out pretty soft, as in: about to fall apart. Is that how it's supposed to be?

I put it back into the dehydrator to see if it will come together some more....

I did eat a piece of it with the RAWvolution eggless salad spread on top today, though, had to use a fork and knife because the bread was too fragile. Tasted YUMMY though. :D

I've not made it but have eaten it at the restaurant. It's pretty soft but I don't remember it falling apart. It is so good with the Big Matt with Cheese but I can't eat it anymore as it contains lots of nama shoyu and I end up going home and throwing up and being sick for the rest of the day. Soy is not my friend. I may try to figure out a way to make it without the nama shoyu and see what happens.

Have you tried the hummus? It's the best I've ever had. I love that restaurant and cookbook.

Yes I am def gonna make the Big Matt with Cheese too! I haven't tried the hummus yet, but of course I will.. Can't wait to try everything!

Too bad you cannot have nama shoyu..

So.. how soft was the onion bread, exactly? I mean did you have to use a fork and knife or could you pick it up with your hands and eat it? I hope it will stiffen up in the dehydrator.. Think it will?

Someone here make it without Nana Soy, I think its Carlog, she uses Reg. or Hem. Salt and says it is Great.

I am going to try to make it again tomorrow niight. Maybe I put too much oil in.. I will still eat the pieces I have already, since they DO taste yummy. Just gotta use a fork! HAHA!

Also... I have to say: I made Alissa's swiss cheese tonight. WOW--so yummy!! Can't wait to have it on my onion bread with tomato slices tomorrow for lunch.

Try doing a search for the rawvolution onion bread here and see what other folks have done to "tweak" it. It IS good. I chop my onions way more and also spread it way thicker and yes, I do dehydrate it for a long, long, period. Like over 24 hours!

I make it with Braggs. Sometimes I leave it in the dehydrator for a week. It gets pretty firm that way. Then I put it in a container in the fridge and when I go to use it I warm it back up in the microwave just a bit. Delicious!

BTW, it freezes very well! I usually make a double batch and freeze!

OK I think I know one problem: I made it a little thicker than the pic in the book. It's about twice the thickness of the pic in the book, so I assume I'd need to dehydrate it for twice as long. (?)

So........I will still eat the bread I have (with a fork/knife) but am going to make another attempt today! I will make it much thinner and see if that works out better.

Also.. is anyone's onion bread oily? I mean... there IS alot of oil in the recipe. But, maybe after I make it thinner, and dehydrate it longer, the oil will have dissipated more.

this is one of my favorite recipes. i use braggs. it's interesting to spread...and yes, it should be thin. in fact, i was worried the bread wouldn't turn out because i spread it so thin. not too oily; just right :). my roommates aren't raw and they totally steal my onion bread ALL THE TIME! lol.

Microwaving "raw" food??? Microwaves destroy 97% of vitamins, and that may be true whether or not the food exceeds 118. I would never microwave raw food, my microwave is gone since even before I went raw. If I want to warm something up I put it in the oven for 3-5 minutes or dehydrator for 30-60 minutes.

Oh I am a pro at making this now! It's so yummy!! I am glad that no one steals my onion bread! I don't have that problem because I bake fresh whole wheat bread for my vegan, non-raw husband.

I don't think so.. I mean they aren't as strong as raw-raw onions.. I mean non-dehydrated. But they are pleasantly strong! :D SO yummy!

I think Braggs tastes much more than soy sauce which is what the recipe calls for. You may want to try my soy free version I posted about 2 days ago and you can adjust the amount of salt.

Love the summer corn salad - I eat it often and I just got all the ingredients to make another batch!
