I remember Victoria Boutenko in one of her books talking about having a strong desire for dandelions. She made a salad out of dandelion flowers and took it to a pot luck and they looked at her like she was crazy! She ended up eating it all herself, and commented on the glow that she got. Basicallly I guess she turned kind of yellow.

Does this really happen? Do you eat dandelion flowers? I'm wondering if it would have the same effect as eating lots of carrots. I think David Wolfe also has a recipe using dandelions in his book eating for beauty, but I'm not sure if he's using the greens or flowers.

Anything that will benefit my skin/complexion I'm all for it, since I'm not a spring chickweed anymore! :p I don't know if I want to necessarily turn colors. But I would like to get the benefits.

I have often wondered about dandelion, but have yet to try them. This article might be of interest to you leaflady
(http://www.leaflady.org/health_benefits_of_dandelions.htm) and I found a number of recipes for dandelion teas, wines, salads, etc - just google it!

I don't know about eating the flowers, but I absolutely love dandilion greens. :D I eat them in salads all the time. I like them best the a dressing made with lemon juice garlic and olive oil. I don't get any glow though. I think Victoria ate a lot of them. They are know to be good for detoxing the liver. That's probably why I like them so much. My poor liver probably has a lot of healing to do after all the abuse I gave it in the past.:( Most health food stores carry them.

Don't know about the glow either, but I got a really good energy boost when I had them last week.

You had dandelion flowers or greens? I eat the greens all of the time...well I mainly use them for juicing and smoothies. But for some reason I'm just so curious about the benefits of the flowers. I can't even imagine where I'd pick the flowers and feel save that they aren't toxic.

I had the greens for salad. They are bitter but when I threw in fresh corn it sweetens it up.

Dandelion greens are great! Get 'em out of your yard, but get them small/young or you will have a pretty bitter salad! Sometimes you see them at farmer's markets or as part of a lettuce blend.

Well.. I didn't' turn colors necessarily ... but when my grandmother made me eat them... I just KNEW i was turning GREEN from the bitterness of them... acccckkkk!!!!!!

I apparently survived since it's been about 30 + years since I've eaten any... but as a teenager I just knew My Grandma was punishing me .... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/flower5555.gif !!

actually -- it would be interesting to taste them now that I am raw... I'm sure I would probably enjoy them... I do remember that when we would harvest wild dandelions (flowers and the greens) that they were unmercifully cooked beyond reason.. which probably turned them bitter now that I think about it... I'll bet on a salad they are fabulous... hmmmm... I'm gunna have to go dandelion hunting now!
