I went to work out at the gym today and planned on at least an hour - tomorrow, I start peaking...anyway, I did 30 minutes on the elliptical and as I was starting my weights, I felt a massive elmination coming on...and after that happened, I just could not do any weights...why is this going on? I didn't eat anything before my workout (and only drank sips of water during my time on the ellipitcal) and my last thing to eat last night was a banana and some grapes...could what I'm eating have something to do with this? I listened to my body say 'no more' and stopped working out for the day. Just looking for an answer on the elimination and how to avoid something as such during workouts...this is the 2nd or 3rd time this has happened to me.

livenraw, this may not have anything to do with food.
Over the years, there are so many things that have affected my workouts...it's really hard to know; it could be small small, unobvious things as well as glaringly obvious.
You could just be tired ;). And even if you feel okay, your body may want to rest.
I've had days where I felt full of energy to start, then had my worst workouts ever. So many things play into how we feel and how we interpret it: *I* many want to run 10 miles; my body may have issues with it some days ;D.
You possibly just needed to wait a bit, as well. After the elliptical, you may have needed a short rest.
Also, many experts advocate doing weights before cardio, as the cardio depletes your energy. If you need to warm up, do a 5-10 minute only warm up.
As far as food, I think everyone is different. I find I can workout well on an empty stomach and just as well having some fruit an hour or two or three before. Some people absolutely cannot eat before; some must. Maybe, if it is the food, you can try different things and see which is more comfortable.
I choose high-calorie, sweet fruits are my choice if I eat before.
I also always make sure to eliminate before working out.
You should be well-hydrated before workouts, don't forget!

Hi Livenraw,
Elimination is a major part of the cleansing process that raw takes you thru. It is probably THE major part. Your body eliminates as its prepared to, that, as you have discovered may not coincide with your schedule. The energy the body uses in this process is tremendous. That would take away from any workout. What I have learned to do is seek to put my workout schedule around it. For example, I usually eliminate every morning, so I wait until I have before I go for my run. I don't know how long you have been raw, but its something that eventually becomes predictable, but not at first. Because in the beginning of the journey (first 3-6 months) the body is doing a major house cleaning. Sounds like you are doing the right thing in terms of eating and exercising, the elimination part is something you will just have to live with until your body is finished. But remember, when the body is done, you will have a tremendous surge of energy and be able to have greater workouts. :)
Peace.

Peace
I've been mainly 100% raw for about 5 months now. And i've been consistently working out daily/weekly for the most part of 3 years. I'm getting a lot better at reading my body, which is another bonus that comes with eating raw. I'm sure others can attest to that. As Todd mentioned, it has become very predictable for my Self when it comes to elimination. For me its always the first thing in the morning whether or not i'm working out that day.
Even if i were to exercise later on in the day, i still eliminate well beforehand. I'm starting to think that it is somewhat mental, and the anxiety of working out can cause that. I've become accustomed to working out on an empty stomach also. If i eat anything before, it'll probably be a banana or maybe some raisins. Water is the main ingredient for me.
As far as cardio and weight training, the days i choose to do both i almost ALWAYS will do the weightlifting first and then follow that with the cardio. By the time i'm done with the cardio, my body yearns for relaxation, and i have to take heed to that.
I wish you well on your journey.
PEACE Eternally
