My skin seems to be increasingly sensitive since going largely raw back in February, and things that didn't bother it before now do. Last night I used a cream that I previously had no problems with before, and today my face is a MESS with itchy, large red patches that I'm going to have deal with to get them to heal up. It's going to take DAYS of looking awful until this is under control! I had had a reaction to another product but discontinued it some time ago and thought I was out of the woods, but no. My skin is the worst it's ever been for being irritated since a period years ago when I had lots of personal inner stress, which I don't have now and my life is on a pretty even keel.
Has anyone else had this bad irritation stuff happen, and is this part of detoxing in general, to get irritated skin that reacts to even gentle stuff?

I use extra virgin olive oil and castor oil (90% olive/10% castor) on my skin as a cleanser. I've also use avocado, wheat germ and macadamia nut oils as moisturizers. I've read where macadamia nut oil is the closest thing to human sebum. Recently, I went to the dermatologist and asked about his different anti-aging skin products. He told me my skin was as close to perfect as I was going to get at my age and wouldn't sell me anything. I'm not too thrilled with my 44 year old skin, but since using the olive oil as a cleasner, I'm almost poreless like I was in my 20's. You also can't beat the price of the oils!

I have slight rosacea and can't use hot, hot water so this is not an option for me....it feels great but the heat is not good for my skin.

You're lucky that your dermatologist didn't try to sell you all kinds of anti-aging products - usually if you are older and with sun-damaged skin these folks including medspa people try to get you onto a harsh combo of acids, skin lighteners and Retin-A. You must have perfect skin, with no sun damage! Do you use sunblocks all the time? While the anti-aging stuff might work for a bunch of people, there are problems, namely that one will never be able to enjoy the sun, which is part of the raw food lifestyle, or one's sun-damage will return redoubled, and one's skin will be far more sensitized to sunlight, not good in my opinion. Plus the prescribed stuff is still drugs that one's body has to deal with, not good if one is trying to get clean by way of a raw food lifestyle. I do wear some makeup, so I have doubts about using olive oil only as cleanser. I have used it to remove makeup before using a regular cleanser though.

you are becoming raw - your body is enjoying pure health... hence why it doesn't want products with *heaven knows what* smeared all over itself!

remember, our skin is our biggest organ and is detoxing us... don't clog it up with processed stuff.

looooooooooove the skin you're in!

Thanks - I so-o needed to hear this! I guess my skin is telling me that it needs pure stuff as well as my body is.
