i have very little energy, so i will try to keep this short. i am 3 weeks 100% raw...80% raw since january. i have had horrible cramping (urgency-to-go) the last three mornings, which result in diarrhea. the pain subsided days 1 and 2 following elimination, but today was horrid. i thought i had salmonella. i have been vomitting with diarrhea, nausea, menses, and absolutely NO energy. I have hardly been able to stand up out of bed and i feel as though i am purging from every orifice of my body. i have a fever, and alternating chills/hot flashes. i am 25, so menopause is not a contributing factor.

this has lasted all day. not gross enough? the smell of everything that is happening is contributing the the vomitting and nausea. i have just barely been able to keep some water down. eating a grapefruit seemed to help a little (i understand that water fasting is optimal during detox, but i was horribly dehydrated.)

i have read some posts from peole who have experienced similar symptoms for weeks to MONTHS at a time. i am a student employed by my university. my schedule will not allow for me to be in bed for weeks (or months...really? MONTHS?) i am pretty concerned about my ability to stay raw. i am not craving cooked foods at all, but am pretty terrified by this detox. any suggestions?

Could it actually have been salmonella or e coli? Most raw foods only keep 3 days in the fridge, I ate one recipe on the 3rd or 4th day and got very sick for a day and didn't completely recover for 2-3 days with symptoms like you described.

i sure hope so! that sounds aweful, but it would be a comfort to know it will pass. i'm usually pretty good about tossing things...but who knows!

Sounds to me like you got a bug - feel better soon!
Detox shouldn't be THAT bad, especially since you're young and have been largely raw since January, even with a little bit of cooked food in there. You're at where you're at in your transition, and let your body be your guide anyway in your raw journey.
Anyhow, do be careful with your food. If making a raw recipe, make only enough to eat for a day or two, unless it is something that is dehydrated until more crispy as this will keep for much longer in the fridge. Wash your fruits and veggies too in a safe veggie wash when you bring them home.
Anyhow, you're going to have to rehydrate and get some electrolytes in. Do NOT fool around with dehydration - once that gets started, it can proceed pretty quickly to a dangerous level, as I once found out with an intestinal bug myself. In my case I had to go and get rehydrated at the hospital it was that bad(IV saline solution for 90 minutes) Coconut water is excellent for this, or some diluted orange juice with a pinch of salt and sweetener in it.
Again, good luck, be careful, and get better soon!

I have NEVER heard of water-fasting during detox... I've always been told "drink MORE water"... that might help with some of your pain. :)
