Is it just me, or does kale smoothie has a spicy taste?

I did one orange, two bananas, a bit of cherries (w/out seed) and 5 leaves of kale...

It tastes good, but after a while kind of spicy or burning feeling.

What is that all about???

Hi Jihyun I usually put Kale in my smoothies and it not spice. But I think the red kale taste a little stronger than the green. What I do is similar to your smoothie 1 banana 1 orange or kiwi, 1/2 cup of cashews and 3 Kale leaves. Now I think Chard has a spice taste to it.

I noticed that I have to drink kale smoothies right away or the taste becomes very strong.

Yeah, it's definitely a different taste when using kale.

It is lovely with either apple & banana or mango & banana. It is one of my favorite now, it is very tasty.

1 bunch of kale
1 cup of frozen Mango
3-5 banana
2-3 cup of water.

I only use 2 banana but you may want to add more to neutralize the taste at first.

Enjoy!

kale is a strong green. It's an acquired taste for some. I'm not sure what makes it taste like that. Chlorophyll? If you notice, almost all of the dark dark greens (the ones with more chlorophyll) have a strong, slightly spicy flavor. Or maybe it's because kale is part of the mustard family, I believe. The latter idea makes more sense. But again, I'm not sure. I love kale...
