Do you like it?? Do you dislike it?? Why do you like or dislike it?? I'm kind of torn on whether to get Core Rhythms or Zumba. Zumba looks like it's more intense and will burn more calories. It also looks fairly complicated, even though they supposedly start you off slow. I'm just not sure what I should get. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Hey! I havent taken Zumba, unfortunately..but I used to work at a fitness club that offered it (one of the reasons I never got to go was because i was always working during the class!). Let me tell you--it was our most popular class!! The class was always full and people just raved on and on about it! It sounds like it's really fun and I'd love to do it someday! If I were you I'd try Zumba--and if you're taking it at a fitness club, get there at least 10 minutes before the class starts to make sure you get a spot! lol

Thanks for the quick reply! I like that people rave about it in person, not just on the infomercial. I wouldn't be taking a class (unfortunately), but I would be buying the videos. I think I will try it. I can always buy Core Rhythms at some point if I really want to. Thanks :)

Oh my goodness...I just watched the infomercial for the 2nd time and I was going to ask the same question. It does look really intense. I am thinking about ordering it but it looks a little intimidating and I have a lot of weight to lose and I am afraid I will get discouraged. It looks like a lot of fun though so I still might try it since there is a 30 day money back guarantee.:o

I love Zumba!

There are several videos on Youtube that I'm trying out to see if I'll stick before I buy (so far I am and it IS intense!).

This one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BILiNvLA-lo) is over 9 minutes... The lady in green in the back is about my speed!

This one (http://youtube.com/watch?v=PWLOY3oxvmQ) is a little over 4 minutes and just that one will kick your booty. You really have to admire the lady in yellow.

I have been considering purchasing the DVDs as well. I am a member of a gym that offers the class, but the class is always overcrowded and stink!! Not my thing--

lol

I have taken the Zumba class at my gym. It's really fun, really fast, and despite the fact that I look like a drunk zombie when I try to do the routines, I love it. The hour flies by!

r4us,

Thanks for posting the links. The Zumba sure does look intense. "What does not kill you makes you stronger" is what came to mind. Am going to yoga tomorrow and will check with the gym on the Zumba classes. Usually do ballroom dancing on Saturday nights, so don't want to be totally wiped out.

how funny: the first one is a salsa and the second one is merengue.....is that what they call Zumba? It's basically people trying to move to the latin-american music. It looks really amusing :D

I know this is a bit late but I love zumba! I took a class here in town but I really like doing it at home with the videos better because then I can really get into it and sweat! It might take you a little while to get the moves down but just keep moving and you'll get it! It's really fun!

I too have been wondering about Zumba, not sure whether to get the 4DVD set or the 8...I've been a couch potato...sometimes am not very motivated...it does look intimating... I'm really out of shape...can anyone advise me as to which set to buy? I had also thought about core rhythms. I work and also live quite a distance from a gym. I would appreciate any advice!

I ordered the DVD's the other day, I love to dance but don't live near a studio or gym so thought I would give this a try! It said about 2 weeks for delivery so I can update once they arrive and I give it a try, if you'd like...

I didn't know there was a choice between a 4 or 8 dvd set.. I have the 4 dvd with the zumba rhythm sticks (which are fun!). I honestly really love zumba.. I used to do dance YEARS ago (1990-1994) and the moves were pretty easy for me except for maybe one or two.. but the good thing is if you can't get a certain move down just keep practicing and you will get it.. or do a different move during that time .. just keep your body moving!

I think it's really fun and the music is great. My friend came over and we did it together and had a lot of fun and just laughed a lot. I like doing it at home too because no one is watching me so I don't feel dumb and I can really get into the moves and sweat more.

anyway.. that's what I think.. I really love them... I've had the videos for probably 2 months now and I still do it at least two times a week (and would do it more but I alternate between using them and using my treadmill).

good luck!

I am a Zumba instructor! hahaha! I had to laugh to see that there's an actual post!

:)

Ohh Zumba is amazing....as amazing as GS's!!! :)

I've been teaching Zumba for 2 years now and it's the FUNNEST workout you'll ever encounter! To get the real feel for it, it's best to go to a class and if by chance, that instructor isn't providing a party atmosphere then find another class! :)

Get out there & shake it sisters!

how do you like teaching it and can you actually make a decent living at it? I've been thinking of maybe doing it myself. Does it seem like there is a lot of demand for it??

It is really fun! I love it!

I love teaching Zumba!! It's a blast.. I won't lie, it's alot of work initially until you learn how to break down choreography and then learn how to actually instruct (being 2 moves mentally ahead of everyone so that you can cue.) But once you get the hang of it (about a year for most who haven't got any dance background) that's when you start to really be more relaxed & fun with it.

One could make a living at it, depending upon what you negotiate to teach. Most give you a flat rate ranging from $15-30 per class (based on your experience as a teacher.) Or once you get yourself more established with a good following of students you can work out a per head percentage cut. So, say the club charges $10 per person per class, you work on a 70/30 split (in your favor) so you get 70% of the $10 per/pers, if you have a good number of people in class, you can make VERY GOOD $. Keep in mind you PHYSICALLY cannot teach hour after hour at best 2 classes back to back (once you've built up your endurance to teach.) Realistically if you were in great shape and didn't have a dayjob, you could do 2 morning classes, then 2 evening classes at the most. You'll get a bit burned out if you don't teach something else though, so forewarning.

I teach ever weeknight and on Sundays and still work full time, it's taken me a year to get a BIG folllowing (20-30 people in my classes.) But when you have that many people in a class the energy they give off really pumps you up so I breeze thru it pretty easily, and especially since I've gone raw with just green smoothies as my primary source of fuel.

:)

thanks BeFree for all of the wonderful info! I doubt I would be doing it anytime soon but maybe in the future.. I do have a TINY bit of dance background (almost 4 years) but it was soooooo long ago it probably doesn't really count anymore! lol.

wow, I can see how if you did two classes a day - 5 days a week it really could add up! and you get paid to get your workout in! lol.

anyway... thanks again and may your classes be overflowing!

I just ordered the Zumba DVD's from e-bay. I should have them in a few days. Can't wait to try it. I was so happy to have lost almost 12 pounds during the last month that I know that had I been working out I may have lost more (though not becoming obsessive about it-proud that I didn't get on the scale all of January). Anyway I need to start working out because I feel really great but I hate the way my body looks right now. Want to lose before it gets warm outside.;)

Got it, like it because I like anything dance. When it comes to bodybuilding look at dancer's bodies! I have never seen one that wasn't on point. :):)

Hi, my fiance is a Zumba instructor, soon to Grace the shores of Australia permanently, and having attended 3 of her classes per week in Cleveland over November and December I have to tell you it's great. She uses DVD's sent from head-office and the one's you're considering buying to get her coreography, so I have done both the DVD's and the classes. In my opinion get to a class if you can, everyone is pretty pre-occupied with getting their own steps right to worry how you are doing, the workout is awesome, and the latin music is great to dance to. If a guy with a bit of enthusiasm, two left feet and a girlfriend (who has been teaching for two years) he's trying to impress can do it, anyone can....have fun.

I'm on my second day of Zumba... OMG it is fun! If you like to dance this is great! It has high intensity and then slow down for a few minutes, I find it easier since I don't get too tired from the constant non stop stuff... Time flies too, well worth trying. I think the energy from a group would make it more fun, I do mine at home. You don't need a lot of room either which is good. Have fun!

exactly! it's great because there is always that tiny little 30 second break between the different styles too where I go get a drink or water or wipe off all the sweat on my face! LOL... seriously I sweat hard core doing zumba.. and it is really fun! My friend and I did it for 45 minutes and when we were done she was like "wow, it didn't even seem like 45 minutes!"
