I've been lurking for a week or so and wanted to join in on the fun. :) I have some friends in various stages of raw and decided I want to move in that direction myself. I've been vegan for about 17 years and I'm finding that switch was much easier. I was living alone and it was pretty clear cut what foods were vegan, as long as you knew the ingredients. Now I'm married and have four and six year olds boys. My husband has been vegetarian for almost 30 years and vegan for about 10, but he's not interested in going raw. The boys have been vegan since conception, but we'll have to see how it goes with them. So that means, if I go raw it'll be on my own for now. I've got Alyssa's book ordered and in the meantime, I'm adding more raw food to my diet. I've read the Raw Family and I'm almost done with 12 Steps to Raw Foods.

Personal stuff, I live in the mid-Michigan area, I'm 45 and a SAHM, homeschooling my two boys.

Welcome Goldenrod;
Many well wishes to you!! Hopefully, this will be a note of encouragement.........from my experience and from reading others posts on here, many husbands "come around" in some form or another to at least be interested in eating more raw. I didn't think my husband would be interested because of his medical status, being diabetic, but he has incorporated his lifestyle to almost 100% raw. In the '12 Steps to Raw', Victoria addresses the issue of others in our lives not being interested, and I believe she said to just be patient and do what is right for you in peace.(something to that effect...it's been a while since I've read the book!)
You are taking another great life step!!! More power to you as you raise your family & homeschool. I'm a veteran homeschooler of 3 kids, my last one graduated last year and I loved my years of being a mom and education facilitator...(many times I didn't teach the material, cause I was learning it myself, so I just pointed the way to find the knowledge)
If you ever have any questions about parenting or homeschooling, please e-mail me. I love listening to moms in love with their kids, even on the days of desparation and on the verge of giving up!! You are doing an awesome thing for your kids and husband by giving of yourself so much. It's good that you're taking care of yourself, too.
Take care;
Shari

I haven't tried to persuade my husband at all, but he's got a rather negative attitude towards raw. Surprising in some ways, since he's always eaten more fresh food than me. He did clean his plate the other day when I made a raw cake. :) So he'll try things if I just leave them around and don't talk about them.

I absolutely love homeschooling, can't imagine doing anything else. I'm already learning about things I didn't know. I could probably make a list of cloes to 100 dinosaurs instead of the one I knew about 5-6 year ago. ;) Not to mention all the facts to go with them. My 6 year old knows more though. Can't wait to find out where this journey takes me.
