Hi there.

My name is Stephanie and I am a junk food junkie.

Give me Taco bell or give me death.... well that is sort of where we are.... or really , give me taco bell and give me death.....

I have impaired sulfur oxidation. I am basically allergic to sulfur and sulfite's....
Sulfite, hey I can deal with that. House has gone green. (don't tell hubby I can clean now or he will fire my cleaning lady, lol).

Its the sulfur I am having problems with. I LOVE garlic, I LOVE onions, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and if you go more extreme....
* Garlic, onions, and all of the allium family
* Grains
o methionine: corn, sunflower seeds, oats, chocolate, cashews, walnuts, almonds, sesame seeds (in that order).
o cysteine: oats, corn (corn grits are higher than chicken, see Sulfur in Human Nutrition and Applications in Medicine, by Stephen Parcell, ND. Published by Thorne Research. [PDF].)
o MSM: corn
* Legumes, including carob and jicama (alfalfa: MSM)
* Red meats
* eggs
o of chicken
o [of duck maybe less so?]
* Nuts & seeds
* Broccoli and all cole-family (brassica) vegetables. This includes cabbages, pak choi, mustard, and watercress.
* Asparagus
* Coconut
* Avocado (high in glutathione, which breaks down during digestion, yielding cysteine)
* Watermelon (also high in glutathione)
* Swiss Chard
* Parsley
* Turmeric (the spice that gives curry its sulfur-yellow color)
* Spinach (high in lipoic acid)
* Sweet potatoes and "yams" (American yams, Genus Ipomoea, not Dioscorea, which the rest of the world calls "yams") - a sulfur compound in this tuber chelates heavy metals. [Need documentation on this.]
* Tomatoes (MSM)
* Tea & coffee: MSM
* Dairy products (Cows' milk: MSM. other milks?)
* Whey proteins (high in cysteine & methionine)
* Amino acids: cysteine, methionine
* Thiamin / Thiamine / Vitamin B1 / aneurine
* Biotin, Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H

Just a question: Are you sure you are allergic to all this stuff? The Amercian diet is almost completley deficient in MSM because our vegetables are grown in depleted soil with no pure rain water and MSM is killed when you cook things. So meat, dairy, tea and coffee - no MSM.

Just wondering how you can eat anything at Taco bell - there is meat, dairy, tomatoes and onions in almost all their stuff?

Alot of the things on your list don't have any concentration of MSM.

Maybe I am not understanding your problem but: Is it organic sulfur (MSM) you are allergic to or is it sulfur drugs (which is synthetic)? There is a difference. A friend of mine once was allergic to sulfur drugs (but not organic sulfur in foods) and she almost died - her insides started burning and peeling.

I was also wondering if you have always had this problem or is it recent?

My though is that you might need to reverse this by doing a cleanse - the raw food will help but cleaning out all the bad food out of your body will be the first step to healing and correcting this.

Hey Harleybabe, I am curious about your answers to queenfluff. I think that makes all the difference. Before I was raw, I could not eat garlic, onions and some other things without feeling pain in my stomach.

Now, my one rule: Is it raw vegan? And that alone works! I could sit here eating a whole plate of food laden with garlic and onions, and I would be perfectly fine!
