I am starting to read Alissa Cohens book. VERY great book, very inspirational, and makes you want to stick to it.

And now I have this strong urge to change my major into something that is more related to natural healing.

Kind of funny though because I have not really started "raw". I have ben on lemon detox for 16 days and Orange juice post cleansing for 3 days, and am now doing OJ for breakfast, fruits for lunch and dinner for two days, and than I will incorporate vegetables and start a raw food diet.

I am not really sure what I really want as alway since there is many options and pathways to take. I am interested in nutrition, psychological counseling, exercising, oriental medicine and (acupuncture and massage sounds interesting).

I just wish there was "one" pathway that includes all that. Maybe there is, a sample of each for undergraduates, but than I would have to declare a major which I will imagine I will know what I want.

But I am wondering if there other people here who are interested in natural healing. What are they called? Naturopathic doctors? What category do this kind of studying belong to?

Can anyone help me further in this subject?

I want to do what Alissa Cohen has done to other people. Help people get rid of sickness and lead a more healthy life. What can I do to that? How can I go about my education to do that?

I am 20 and am currently studying Art to major in a specified Art or become a art teacher....but I have never been passionate. And I believe you need passion to enjoy your job...but art has been a hobby and I think I am realizing that I just chose a "safe" path. A path that I already know am good at and will get results...

I am almost done with my AFA associate degree and plan to transfer either UW or WWU...now, I am considering some other major that is completely new, have never thought of, and am very intimidated, and afraid of failure.

But I love the idea of raw food and am amazed at how much miracles can happen by just eating raw. We ourselves can be our own natural healers.

There are many lovely inspirational quotes on Alissa's book:

"If we eat wrongly, NO doctors can cure us;
if we eat rightly, NO doctor is NEEDED." - Dr. Victor G. Rocine, 1930

I have not started raw yet, but the organic produce expense intimidates me. But than, it beats health insurance right? lol...and than I have my mom to deal with...she won't be happy.

Anyways, can anybody help me? I need lots of motivation and encouragement, and support.

It could be a spur of the moment thing as I have just thought of it this morning.

I know one thing for sure though, I won't be happy and fulfilled being an art major and teacher. Just something about it seems dull...always have been ever since I started. Its a hobby that I can enjoy time to time through my lifetime. but...having it daily?

It is very awesome how in tune you are to your own body when you are on the lemon detox. Time goes much more slowly and you think more clearly.

Please help me! Thank you!

Hi! I don't really have any advice...but I feel for you because we are in the same boat!! I am a Theater major because that is my hobby. I really want to be a holistic nutritionist! and a holistic culinary chef :D The stage is a nice hobby...but making and creating food and making it look nice is my passion!!
But, I had to push that sort of schooling back a year because of lack of funds. I'm not even sure if I'll be able to go! What I'm planning on doing is saving up my money and taking a Living on Live food class and working my way up that ladder. But, that is still a bit off from now because of fund issues. (It's always money!)

Hi Jenna!
What does holistic mean?

I bet being a chef is very expensive. You need all those supplies and foods that you may not even eat. I sort of know what it is like. Art is very expensive too, especially oil painting. I ended up not like painting in the end though, lol.

Yeah, if you don't have the funds, working up the ladder is the best. It also gives you more time to think about what your doing, the possibilities and simply enjoy.

I hope you save a lot of money to fulfill your dreams!

You and I are the same age! Did you finish majoring in theatre or are you still working on your major?

Holistic is like alternative..like vegetarian, vegan, raw. Healing foods :)
Sort of like how acupuncture and massage are alternatives to "normal" medicine

I haven't finished my major yet. My plan was to not really major anything at my college now and just go to vocational school to become a certified nutritionist. I really don't like being a theater major, I can't stand the classes I have to take. So I've just been focusing on classes I want to take while doing theater in the evenings(plays/shows)

Thanks for the kind wishes :) I hope we both can find out how to get to the path we want to follow!

there are three kinds of naturopaths, licensed doctors who went to an accredited med school, unlicensed docs that went to an accredited med school but didn't go for licensure and unlicensed doctors that went to an unaccredited school and cannot be licensed. Being a licensed ND means 4 years of medical school and clinical rotations. Being an unlicensed ND...you can do that online but you won't be able to call yourself a doctor when you are done. You will be practicing as a counselor.

That said there are many other fields in the natural healthcare world. Just keep looking and something will jump out at you!

holistic mean that you are viewing the body as a whole. You are taking all systems into account. Many holistic docs advocate meat eating, so it isn't necessarily related to the type of diet...the philosophy simply means that they believe diet plays a part in health-as does every other aspect of the person.

Allopathic docs don't see the system this way generally....they see the body as Decartes did, as parts that bear no meaning to each other. You treat the parts like a mechanic does in a car. Wholism (or holism) says that you cannot treat a part without assessing the whole...mind, body and spirit.
