Hello. I've been looking at different Raw foods sites, but haven't found my "home" forum yet. :)

First off, I am not 100% Raw or a vegan. I think it is so awesome that many of you are and I realize that this is the premise of this forum. I have friends that are largely raw eaters, vegetarians (vegan most of the time). They have inspired me to look into this more and to question the connection between what I eat and my overall health.

After a bout of pnemonia and a couple rounds of antibiotics (I hate prescription meds but didn't want to wind up in the hospital), I got serious about eating more raw. So since January my husband and I have been juicing or making raw smoothies during the week for breakfast. We did raw till dinner for a week, but then went back to our old ways other than the juice/smoothies in the morning. This past week I tried going all raw for a few days and started getting bad detox symptoms. I have a very active toddler and I quickly realized that I have to take things much slower or I'm going to be non-functional. We are not your typical SAD eaters as we do eat lots of organic and minimally processed foods most of the time, but we are pretty far from 100% Raw too.

Anyway, that's a little bit about my journey thus far. I hope to glean some good info from you all!

Welcome!! I wish you the best of rawesome health! You don't have to be 100% raw here, there are many who are not, and I am one of them! The boards are for raw vegan discussions only, but if you wish to create a blog on RFT, my understanding is that you can put almost anything there:D.

Hey Mama K -- Welcome. I consider two different raw forums to be my "home." ;)

Sounds like you are at least well on your way to where you would like to end up in terms of health...

Welcome! You may want to consider the Paleolithic diet as a transition to raw. The premise is if a Paleolithic man could not gather it or hunt it it can not be included. So that knocks out grain and bean products, which are hard for many people to digest anyway. It does allow eggs and meats if you are so inclined, but the meats should be quickly SEARED (not cooked until gray inside) and very, very fresh from a safe (pastured) source. I felt a lot better when I eliminated bread products first and then proceeded to eliminating meat. My goal now is to have my only non-raw item be eggs, which I may never eliminate since I've had poultry for over 10 years now and love nothing better than lightly scrambled eggs. I just recently went 95% raw after eating about 50% for over a year. The first week I had diarrhea. Now I feel really good.
