I normally never see commercials since I have TV on my PC and never watch live TV, it records the shows I want to watch and I watch them when I want, it also automatically puts skip marks on the ads to I can skip them, like changing chapters on a DVD.

One day, I was doing doing a set of dumbbell exercises as an ad came on so I let it play, it was for Lunesta, the "sleep aid" drug. One part said:
"Ask your doctor how to get 7 nights of Lunesta FREE! [...] Call your doctor right away if you walk, drive, eat or engage in other activities while asleeep [...] Because a great tomorrow, starts tonight. [...] Ask your doctor about Lunesta today."

And these drugs really do cause these side effects.

Some of the side effects that they stream at the end of those pharma advertisements sound worse than the actual dis-ease! Utter insanity and it would be funny if people weren't actually taking those things.

I have never taken any medication specifically for sleep but I have been taking medication to put me to sleep for years and I've never experienced anything like that.

I started using prescription acne cream again last night :( . My mom is basically forcing me to use it. I try to explain that the reason my acne is worse now than before raw is because of detox. She won't listen and she says that everyone in college in the fall will tease me/not like me because of my skin. I tell her that I don't want to be friends with such superficial people anyway.

Well, she forced me to put the acne cream on. Now, not only do I have acne, but I have dry skin from the cream. Mom wants me to put another cream on to counteract the dry skin *sigh*.

Using drugs only leads to using more drugs, to counteract the side effects. It's a vicious cycle.

By the way, now my skin is covered in olive oil. I can't wait to move out in the fall. It is not easy to be a raw vegan living in a drug-addicted, meat and cheese eating family. My dad has been concerned lately that he is gaining weight and his hair is thinning, but he refuses to learn about eating better. My mom is on thyroid medication for hypothyroid, and although I point out Lucy's testimony to her, she refuses to change her ways.

I usually try to stay positive, but sometimes I just have to vent!

Anyway, back on topic, raweater, you are so right! Big Pharma is horrible. We don't have health care in the U.S. and Canada. We only have illness management.

I like your signature line!

Can you pretend to use the cream (just putting it down the sink a little at a time? Telling her you are using it? (((hugs)))

They could probably sell more product if they advertised something like: Enjoy a great nights sleep while driving to work or mowing your yard. HeHe

Okay, I don't drive often, but now I'm a little nervous!! Sleeping zombies out there driving on the same roads as us! That sounds far more dangerous than a little tossing and turning --- and yes, some people take those things for something as mild as that...

The side effects of the commercials has always made me giggle a little --- or get frustrated... I try to stick to the giggling.

That's probably in the works at the drug lab right now. You're right, a big seller! Think how much more we could get done if we could keep doing things while we sleep? Ha ha.

About your acne, are you 100% vegan? I had tried raw cheeses but they often give me acne. Sugar can also be a cause of acne, and this includes bananas, dates, etc. You may want to check www.mercola.com and search acne, he has articles about it and Dr Mercola fully supports a raw diet, but not a vegan raw diet, but he's still one of the rare, honest and smart doctors there are and I have tremendous respect for him.

By the way I mom has gone mostly raw/vegan but not entirely, and as a result was able to quit the 8 or more daily drugs she was taking! My dad on the other hand seems to prefer to make himself believe that your health and date of death are all predetermined and nothing you do will have any effect, I think he knows it's false, but he likes to make himself believe that (he smokes, eats meat, dairy, coffee, chemical loaded foods, etc.).

Many automobile accidents may actually be caused by prescription drug side effects

There seems to be a problem in the article, there's weird things at the top but if you scroll down you'll see it.

Raweater,
Thanks for your concern. I've been 100% vegan (except for honey) for four years and raw for almost one of those years. Before I was raw, I would have mild acne constantly. Now I have a few weeks of really clear skin followed by a few weeks of really bad acne. I'll try to watch my sugar intake and see what effect it has.

Rawstrength,
I don't know what cream you are using, but if it is Retin-A (tretinoin) the dryness will stop in a couple more weeks. As I understand, it is a vitamin A derivative and isn't so toxic in itself, although it's in a base of stuff like propylene glycol that isn't so great. Still, i am afraid to stop using mine because it has helped me and is the best thing for large pores and fine lines. Yes, I am vain...oat flour also makes a gently cleanser and mask when moistened.

They say that the skin reveals the digestive tract. You could try taking Betaine HCl + pepsin caps with meals that contain fat/protein. And zinc is supposed to increase your stomach acid in the long run. Also omega-3s. If you're someone who doesn't convert ALA efficiently to DHA, you can take vegetarian DHA. I know it's out there. Krill oil is getting very popular but I suppose that's not vegan? Not sure whether krill is a tiny animal or microbe.

Stress is a huge factor, too. Maybe moving out will help with that? :-)

you are a very strong person to endure all that!

but i hear yah. sounds very much like my family. acne sucks (i suffer from it too). i used to take pills for it, and wasn't supposed to be out in the sun for too long because i would burn. it's crazy how you take a pill to "cure" something but it creates a whole host of other problems.

raw food is the best medicine!!!!!

I just wanted to tell you that the best acne treatment that I have ever found is pure tea tree oil. I don't know if you have ever been told that before or not, I mean maybe you already know this. When I use it I put it on full strength, right from the bottle with a cotton ball. When it dries really well, I will go back over my face with a moisturizer that doesn't contain mineral oil. I've seen some pretty bad acne clear up really fast when using this treatment. You can use it in the morning and then again at night but if you try it and it dries out your face too much then just use it once a day or even every other day.

I'm a registered nurse and I can tell you that it definitely happens from taking medications like Lunesta and especially Ambien. I've seen them do really crazy things to people.

Last week I took care of a young lady that came in after police brought her in because several 911 calls for someone driving irratically. I believe her when she says she doesn't remember driving.

I'm actually guilty of taking these medications myself. I was on melatonin but because it messed up my natural hormones so badly, I had to switch to scripts. When I took the xanax and lunesta together, I slept really well and never got up but as I was really tired and ready for bed, I would eat. I would sometimes wake up to find that I had fallen asleep with food in my hand or even in my mouth. I was totally aware that I was eating, I just fell asleep.

Lunesta alone was not strong enough to make me sleep

Ambien is another one that I take now and it doesn't make me sleep walk like people have claimed. I do believe that some people do this but I haven't had a problem with it so far. Dreams are pleasant on this medication.

Ativan is another one that works really well, it works pretty much like xanax since they are in the same class of medications. I haven't had any problems with it either.

Maybe the people who sleep walk on these medications already had a strong tendency to do that even before the medications, that's all that I can think of right now.
