How can I tell if my medjool dates are still good?

I refrigerated them as soon as I got them home... but I've had them for a couple of months, no more than 3 though... so how long do they last?

I ate some that were about 4 months old once, lost in the back of my fridge...a little dry but I didn't die...shoulda soaked 'em first!

Ditto.. but check for worms before consuming. I've kept mine in the fridge and they get hard faster than if I keep at room temp.

I freeze the bulk of mine. The ones I use weekly go in the fridge...

I was cleaning out my cabinet(I have my own cabinet for my raw stuff in my parents' kitchen) and I found a baggie of dates from...oh...a few months ago :o
ohhhh it smelled so bad! Like alcohol ! Definitely tossed those..

The whiff test works..or give to your signifigant other and ask..."Does this taste bad?" hehe.

If they still smell good, but have a dry texture from sitting in the fridge for so long, try soaking them to restore the juicy texture.
Don't eat them if they don't smell good or if they have worms :eek: .
