View Full Version : A Different Approach

I'm try a different approach to my raw shopping. I'm going to purchase food daily. I live very close to the local farmer's market and grocery and have this ability.
Normally, I try to stock up for the week. Purchasing things that I think won't be ripen for several days. Purchasing a few items that are ripe that day....hoping that nothing will go bad before I get the chance to eat it. Only to discover that I didn't really want an avocado on a certain day, but it would be bad if I didn't eat it...yadayadayada.

Now I'm purchasing just a couple foods each day. I've only been 100% again for two days, but they are a smashing success! :p I sort of purchase what I'm craving...eat it all up and then think about what I want for the next day. Always making sure I have breakfast ready for the next morning. I don't want to wake up and have nothing in the house.

But I find that I'm spending a lot less, feeling less pressure about consuming something I'm not even hungry for and enjoying the food that I'm eating a lot more.

Does anyone else do this?

I've done that before. It worked well. However, I found that it takes too much time. I still shop frequently. Maybe 1 - 2 times per week.

If I lived near a farmer's market, I'd do that. As it is, I shop a couple times a week. I agree that stocking up for the week doesn't always fit this way of eating.

It's interesting that your spending less.....do you stock up on the basics (nuts, dates, agave etc) but just shop daily for fresh fruits and veggies?

I go to the store 4 times per week minimum. I love to see what fruits & veggies are marked down - there's a special section that saves me loads of cash. That aside I love to be in the produce section - brings me joy. :p I hope your new plan works.

That's great to hear that you do that... I was thinking of doing that as well, as what I've found to be the three best stores around here are either within 1 block walking distance, or right on my way home from work. I haven't started actually doing raw 100% (still learning!) but figured it would be easier to stop and get what I'm in the mood for, rather than letting it go bad or something. :)

I'm glad to see others do this too. :p
Yes, I tend to keep the staples that I always need around. Nuts, flaxseed, coconut oil. Then every day I'm picking one fruit and a couple veggies. Just enough to tide me over for that day based on how I'm feeling. If I'm really hungry I buy more food...if not at all less.
I'm spending less because I'm not wasting food.
I'm also really enjoying the food more. :D
Very cool...I love trying something new and having it work so well.
I've been very raw to 100% for over two years now. Finding something new that helps me stay 100% and feel happy about it...is rawesome!
You tend to feel like you've tried it all after a while. But this makes it feel new again.

I go to the store at least twice a week! otherwise things go bad, especially greens. when i lived in europe i went just about every day, or every other day. they don't have fridges like we do, theirs are much smaller. often the size that people have in dorm rooms (but not the tiny square ones). so you have to go more because you don't have room to put more food. and it doesn't cost so much with electricity.

I shop often...2-3x's week!

I tend to spend more on food when I'm raw simply because I'm positively addicted to Kombucha and Larabars and haven't figured out how to make them on my own yet... plsu I don't have time to make anything right now. Once I'm moved into my new house, with my new job (ONE, instead of FOUR) I will be able to branch out/cheapen up.

I shop Almost everyday, and sometimes twice a day. But, I live reasonably close to the grocery store....and I have 6 kids. And I never write stuff down and inevitably end up forgetting something.

It does allow me to eat intuitively!...and definately increases my raw intake.

I have the same thing with avocados...but I have found they ripen so much slower in the fridge.

I also go to about three different grocery stores. My staple. Costco. and a higher end one that sells things like onion sprouts. Also they always have ripe bananas, or avos, where my cheaper one is inconsistent that way.

In my perfect world I would always go to the farmer's market...but for some reason it's still not happening. Actually, perfect world would include me having a green house. With a pool in the middle, lol.

"very European"....I like it. Sounds sexy, lol.

This si such a great idea!! I don't kno why I don't do this. I can swing by the Farmer's Market on my way home, and our coop is not out of our way. I think we will save a TON of money because we will only buy what we need today or for the next 2 days, not for aw eek --- and then end up wasting or not wanting half of it. I think we'll probably stock up once a month on the pantry stock stuff (sundried tomatoes, nuts, evoo, spices etc...) and do the fresh things every day or every other day!

You're so smart!

Thank you, but honestly I stumbled into it. LOL:p
Have you ever had one of those weeks where there was too much going on to even focus on a shopping list! Yes, that's what started this new approach for me.

Day Four 100% and going strong! Raw Rawks!
