I have not had a mammogram in several years and now feel that I do not see the need to subject myself to radiation. Yet I am wondering what you guys think about it. I went through a biopsy once to find out ~ it was nothing~just an expense and a hyped up fear based week pushed by the medical community. ....
Thank you for your thoughts ~

I'm 59, never had a mammogram. Wondering why you're asking because there are always people here who will tell you you MUST go and do this even if the end product causes cancer. Weird eh? They test you for something with the cause of it? I don't get it.

Fortunately I am young and don't have to worry about mammograms now (or ever - why worry?)
My grandmother had breast cancer that was not detected my a mammogram. My mom's friend got a false positive for breast cancer from a mammogram. I don't think that such an inaccurate test is worth exposing yourself to radiation.

Have been mis-diagnosed twice, and finding out that medical tests are 50% accurate (or, inaccurate) and that about 350,000 people die each (an epidemic) from prescribed drugs, (3rd largest killer of humands), I think I'll continue doing what I've been doing for over 30 years now ~ taking care of me.

i'm young as well, but also don't plan on ever getting them. something i'm very much in favor of is breast self exams, being very aware of how your cycle affects your breast tissue, and breast/lymphatic massage.

isn't breast cancer usually related to the state of the lymphatic system and hormones? so for the majority of us if we eat raw and move our lymph, not sure what there is to worry about.

They're PAINFUL!!!! & I'll never get another one....had never had one, till I was diagnosed in November with inflammatory breast cancer, which mamograms & biopsies usually don't pick up, but of course they pushed to do them anyways...& kept getting 'blurry pictures' & ended up taking at least 10!!! {Until I finally said, 'ENOUGH!"}

The biosies were DEEP, painful & I read here recently can damage cells & CAUSE abnormal cell growth (ie. cancer!) I still have 3 red lumps from them.

I've heard that if you get all the recommended mammograms, by the time you're 60+, you've already recieved more than enough radiation to CAUSE breast cancer...yup, dumb...

(...by the way, in the midst of all this, I began to pray, in faith, & was totally healed!
Even my {non-Christian} Doctor couldn't deny it!!!)

The links for Dr. Lorraine Day have been posted here lots, she healed ber breast cancer through nutrition etc, & has a video called, "Cancer Doesn't Scare me Anymore!"

I haven't seen 'em, but having faced that monster, & having found victory over it, it doesn't scare me anymore, either~

i personally had a mammogram for the first time last year out of sheer curiosity. i was not impressed with the fact that after i disrobed, the technician walked into the room and immediately told me to get dressed! imagine my confusion..."why" i asked. apparently they thought i was small breasted and the machine apparently couldn't handle my size. so we had to go track down a bigger machine in another room, lol. i am not kidding. now imagine if i had issues with my boobs. i'm also not bringing having illness into my consciouness...i plan to have quite healthy boobies for life. :)

I will personally never subject myself to mammograms or any kind of test that can harm my body. I do not even carry managed sick care of america insurance. I carry insurance that will cover me if I break a leg, etc.

I feel that since I am taking excellent care of my body, I do not need to go to a doctor. I am my own doctor and no one knows my body better than me.

Our bodies actually cure cancer everyday!

I kind of struggled w/the same issue/ Should I have them pinched? I had my first one at 38 due to a lump that was found. Turned out to be nothing. My doctor said I had busy breasts whatever that means. About a 1 1/2 ago I had a bad case of mastitis. Lasted for about a day and people were telling me go get a mammogram-might be cancer. No, didn't do it. Technician did tell me a funny story though- During a routine mammogram the smoke alarm went off and the technician smelled smoke-she panicked and left the lady strapped to the machine. The firefighters came through to clear everyone out and surprise they found this lady still clamped down in the machine.:o

Great replies ~ I was not planning to further subject myself to the painful and toxic process.I think I have had a total of 3 ( too many ) . Getting the message out there is important and it always comes down to common sense and diet. Oh so pure and simple. [B]Raw Heaven ~ Yes I am joining the healthy boobies club being raw !
Smoothie Girl ~ Had to chuckle over the "busy breasts " but the image of being stuck strapped in that machine when firemen were on the loose is a hoot ! Yikes !
Down with radiation:eek: .

Have you heard of a GYN telling the patient that they need to get an ultra sound after the mammogram was negative, and that after the ultrasound, the patient must see the referring surgeon, even when all indications were negative for problems?? Isn't that absurd? This is what I went through last month. First, the mammogram was fine. My GYN STILL told me it wasn't, and that I needed an ultrasound. The Ultrasound Tech. said that there was nothing wrong with me, so did the attending Doctors. Notwithstanding, my ex- GYN would not take that for an answer and practicallly demanded that I see the surgeon!!

Needless to say, I am not a patient of his anymore. Just so crazy, it is.

I'm never getting another mammogram.

I've struggled with this issue myself. I finally decided that it isn't right for me. I just don't think I should subject myself to having my breast tissue squeezed and have radiation shot in them. It just doesn't sit right with me - doesn't feel like the right decision. Of course others tell me that I am crazy. "You have to have one so the doctors can help you if there is a problem." I've had several family members and friends die of cancer that were "helped" by the doctors. Not saying that those doctors didn't do all they knew how to do. I just don't trust the current method of treating such a disease. I've seen my love ones get sicker from the chemo and radiation than they were with the disease. Follow all of doctor instructions and never become healthy again. Most doctors don't believe that disease can be cured or at least have symptoms lessen by changing the diet. I've heard from some people who stated their doctors became VERY angry when they asked questions about alternative health or if changing their diet would help. I visted one women on the cancer unit of a hospital. They brought in her lunch from the hosptial cafeteria and right their on the tray was a pack of Sweet N Low and regular white sugar! This was included with each meal! These are the people we are suppose to put our trust in. I decided that if I was ever diagnosed with this disease I wasn't going to follow the normal standard of treatment for this. So why should even bother getting the x-ray? I'll do all I can to eat healthy and heal my body on it's own.

Has anyone heard of or had thermo imaging(I think that is what it is called). There was an alternative health doctor in my city that offered this as an alternative choice to having a mamogram. Of course they had to be soooo careful on how the advertisements were worded. It had to include a statement that it was not meant to take the place of a mamogram. Even after doing so the big wig physicians put up such a stink about it that I think the service is no longer being offered. Basically labled the thermo imaging as quackery. HA! and how many of their procedures, so called cures and expensive medication kill people every day! Don't know if it is true or not but I heard on a health TV show that the rate of cancer cures, that is complete cancer cure survival of over 10 years has not increased in the past 40 years. Supposedly earlier dectection is better but long term survival isn't. Yet money keeps pouring in to the research. IMO if it hasn't changed in 40 years sounds like what they are doing isn't working all that well. As one famous comedian said it's all about money and the money isn't in the cure it's in the treatment.

so for the majority of us if we eat raw and move our lymph

I am a bit new to this so please forgive me if this is a dumb question. Exactly how do we move our lymph?

I have had 2 mammograms and they hurt like HELL! But.. then again: my breasts are full of cysts, so I am sure they hurt more than average.

Also.. since I am doing the Master Cleanse, I wonder if my cysts will lessen in size, or even go away completely. I think there is a good chance of that happening.

Has anyone here ever had cysts that disappeared when doing the MC?

Move our bodies. Unlike the circulatory system which has the heart as a pump, the lymph system has no pump except movement which is why anything that moves the legs and arms is good stuff ~ rebounding, swimming, etc. and why not wearing a bra 24/7 is also a good thing. The weight of the breasts, no matter what size also assists in SOME movement.

Moving your lymph is good but you have to chuck the bra, I don't wear bras unless I have too, I used to wear them 24/7, I wear camisols mostly, but then I'm a size A so no one really notices:

http://www.007b.com/bras_breast_cancer.php
Singer and Grismaijer then studied 4,500 women in five cities across the U.S. about their bra wearing habits and later published their findings in a book Dressed to Kill. Though the study did not take into account other lifestyle factors, the results are too striking to be denied:

3 out of 4 women who wore their bras 24 hours per day developed breast cancer.
1 out of 7 women who wore bras more than 12 hour per day but not to bed developed breast cancer.
1 out of 152 women who wore their bras less than 12 hours per day got breast cancer.
1 out of 168 women who wore bras rarely or never acquired breast cancer.

Jumping on a rebounder is one of the BEST ways to move/drain your lymphatic system...& there's a lymphatic massage technique you can get done, or learn & do on yourself, as well...

...I'd love to join the club...I was sneak-brrowing my mom's bras at about 11, they were 38DD's, & too small...{...my brother used to tell me,"Don't run! You'll give yourself black eyes!" Took me awhile to figure out what he meant!}
...& now, I only have a few left (hard & expensive to find in my size) that I tore the tags out cuz I didn't want my hubby to know my size (like he didn't anyways! but I mean the numbers!) but I DESPISE wearing them, & only do when I go out, usually just wear sports bra type tank tops (but not as tight) for a little support with no compression or binding, usually 2 at a time...works for me....but my back hurts if I don't wear a bra at least once in awhile...

I have a friend who was never near as Dolly Parton-ish as me, & brings up how glad she is she got breast reduction surgery at least weekly as she suggests I consider it...I finally had to get blunt, told her I saw one on tv, & NO-ONE is cutting off & repositioning MY nipples!!!
YUK!!!

So I just have one question before I sign up...
...do we have to burn our bras to join? (Even if we're not feminists?)

Yes, my great great aunt taught me how to rip that bra off without taking the shirt off. Houdini magic. lo.

I can do that too! Maybe we should go on Dave Letterman for the Stupid Human Tricks! I taught myself how to do this in high school because I didn't like taking my clothes off in the locker room before and after PE. I had a method for changing into my gym clothes in such a way that I never exposed anything! I could do it quicker than those that stripped down to bra and panties and then into the gym uniform. I hate bras! I can't wait to take mine off as soon as I get home. If I could I probably would live without shoes or a bra for the rest of my life! Morbid subject here but...while making final arrangements for someone that died I learned that it is a funeral home requirement that women must be burried with bra and panties! Ok the panties are fine but I don't want to spend eternity in no damn bra!:p

Okay you must be kidding...that sounds pretty awful. When the archaeologists start digging they're going to find all of these strange chest contraptions, unless they're biodegradable by then. I would say more, but it would no longer be PG. :p This is another reason I can add to the list of getting cremated.

Here's my take:
I've had only one, and that was maybe 20 years ago, never again, especially with all the info out there in the alternative health community. I had a scare with a lump, that turned out to be nothing. Like Revell here, I will keep doing what I've been doing for years and getting a whole lot healthier even. Mammograms don't prevent cancer like they say in the public service announcements. They only detect some of the cancers, and there is some speculation that the pressure of the plates can be sufficient to crush a small tumor and help its malignant contents spread throughout the body as well as the serious radiation issues, no matter what they tell you. I'm 61, had a mother die of breast cancer 30 years ago, and have been very careful of my diet anyway and increasingly heading to raw over the last 15, with more of a commitment since the beginning of this year.
Thanks, but no thanks on mammos!

I had my first mammogram at 42 because I felt a suspicious lump. Very small. The lump did not show up on the mammogram (pretty common I hear). So ultrasound was next. Technician got agitated because I watched the screen as she did it. Strange--since it's my body and felt every right to know what was going on with it.

Well both were inconclusive so open biopsy and lump removal, which was sent to the lab. Early breast cancer. Sadly, bought into the chemo scare. The oncologist could never look me in the eye at office visits knowing I really didn't need it. I no longer trust allopathic doctors, although the few interactions I do have, I work with them and take the most natural path possible. My insurance coverage is sloooowwwwllly getting more toward naturpathic MD's.

I do not go for an annual mammogram--have done 3 in the last 10 years since my diagnosis. The affects of radiation are cumulative and have had more than enough exposure over the years for diagnostic procedures. This is my choice and works for me. Each person has to make their own choice on what tests, exposures they are comfortable with.

I am not overly endowed (medium 36 C) and have been transitioning from bras to natural camisoles for comfort. Like many have stated, I too enjoy the freedom at home without either.

Be well, be healthy raw.
