Sometimes when buying lettuce and spinach, we get them in the clear plastic container with lid. I saw on an organizing thread here that someone was using them to store her veggies in (sorry I can't remember who). What I am wondering is...not that long ago they came out with the news that some plastic was unsafe to use with food. Does anyone know if these are in that catagory...or if they are safe??

Thankyou

Nope, they're not safe.
We're one of those families that avoids plastic like the plague. All in all, the softer the plastic the worse it is. They've created corn containers, containers that looks like plastic but are biodegradable and made out of corn...we only carry those at our HFS. There's also BPA free plastics which are supposedly safer. We just put stuff into glass. Pyrex containers are great plastic alternatives and are made in the US so you know they're lead-free, unlike the glassware sold in China.

re: the "corn" plastic......there is no pure land... i used to work for an organic produce delivery service and we used regular plastic bags. i had a discussion with the manager about why we didnt switch to the corn ones. while the corn ones are nontoxic for us, the problem is that the making of them uses GM corn...so its like trading one problem for another. reduce the toxins going into your body but increase the GMOs in the environoment.....cant win.
