I've been trying to come up with a subsitute for hummus -- I was making it with sprouted chickpeas for a while, but I just don't like that wierd beany flavor. And I miss the texture of cooked chickpeas. I like to eat it in nori rolls, with alfalfa sprouts and avocado... has anyone found anything that has a similar texture to cooked beans but isn't based on nuts or avocado or lots of oil? I read a suggestion here about adding mushrooms, so I'll try those with lentil sprouts.... any other ideas? Thanks!

How about sunflower seeds?

I have purchased "Matter of Flax" brand dehydrated hummus (you just add water) and the main hummus ingredients are sunflower seeds and tahini. Then they add a variety of spices depending on what flavor it is. They are expensive, but good, so I have been wanting to make my own at home for awhile. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but you might just want to give it a try.

Good luck!

Hey there,

This is a pretty popular recipe I have had versions of it not sure if it was this one but YUM

Special Hummus
2 cups peeled zucchini, chopped
1 Tbs. olive oil
1 and 1/2 lemon, juice of
3/4 cup sesame seeds (hulled)
3/4 tsp. sea salt
2 garlic cloves
1 tsp. paprika

Blend all of the ingredients in your Vita-Mix or food processor. Be sure that you use hulled sesame seeds, which are white. If you use a food processor, you should grind the seeds beforehand in a coffee grounder. Serve with vegetables.

i stumbled upon this great little cafe called citrus last week and they had raw hummus. i usually make mine from sprouted chick peas but i'm kind of tired of the flavor. this cafe made theirs with zucchini instead of beans. then just add tahini, garlic, braggs or whatever else you would put in your hummus. i haven't tried making it yet, but have a zuke in my refrigerator waiting.

I make all kinds of hummus. Chick peas, zucs, and this one I'm using now.

1 cups fresh green peas (I use frozen), big hand full of spinach, 1 cup broccoli flowerettes, and 1/2 cup of the stem (rough chop). Use a food processor and blend until smooth. Then enjoy a yummy taste.
