Half my freezer is full of bananas for this very reason. There are so many combinations you can experiment with. We loved rice & soy ice cream before raw, but now we can eat without the guilt. That's the best thing about raw... all the goodness, none of the guilt! My kids' friends even ask for it when they come over. So I go through hundreds of bananas a week. It's a job in itself keeping the freezer stocked. :)

Jenifae, banana ice cream couldn't be easier...take 2-3 really ripe bananas, peel and freeze them. Once frozen, put bananas in food processor and whirl until creamy. If your ice cream is grainy, process more :p - it will become creamy.
I've heard of people adding a drop of vanilla and some pecans on top. I like mine with cacao nibs. :) Enjoy!

All I do is use already cut up and frozen bananas and put them in a food processor. You have to let it go for awhile. At first they look like sliced up nuts then all of a sudden it goes into a creamy ball and it's done. I use that as a base and if I want to add anything else I add it before it's blended. I use mac nuts, frozen strawberries, whatever. It's really good and the texture is very much like ice cream.

Well, I just experiemented and put Banana's in the food processor with 2 tsps of vanilla (couldn't find my bean), Cocnut shreds (my raw coconut oil/meat looked green in a spot :( ), cacao powder, and agave. Just put it in the freezer.
I'll let ya know if it's any good.

Hey Jen~
Did you use frozen bananas?? That's the key.....then it is ready to eat straight from the food processor...no waiting required~
Let it thaw a bit...chop and put back in the food processor and eat after you reblend it.

Rawyogini...you made my day. I usually do pecans or other fruits. Never even THOUGHT of macs. I may sprinkle with coconut and pretend I'm on a tropical island too. Thanks!:) (Jammin to the freezer to pop the bananananananas in right now)

I usually add a drop of vanilla and some chopped walnuts but the strawberries sound like a wonderful twist. Mmmmmmm!
Jenifae - you freeze the bananas first THEN blend it and add the extra and eat right away. You don't mix it up then freeze it. I'm sure if you let it sit for a few then blend it you will get the ice cream consistancy though.

I went to the HFS today. I go through the same checker's line with my fruits, soft as can be not in any bags. She has to be so careful or she will end up with sticky fingers. She said today I am the only customer who comes through with soft fruit. I wish I can have them all for a discounted price too. Today's hunt was white organic peaches and apricots. Both were so sweet. I bet they would go great with banana ice cream. I do have some frozen bananas waiting for me. I don't eat that many any more, but sure love them when I do.
Thanks for sharing today. It's fun reading!
OT: I'm busy making raw pickles using Boutenko recipe. http://rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=32376&highlight=boutenko+recipe+carolg+pickles
Last year had a few jars that had some scrub wrote about, but maybe it was too hot in the kitchen or something. It ended up working out all great however.
This year I already made 4 1/2 gallons of same recipe and absolutely delish. I never even added pickling spices to any of my previous batches either. Salt, water, garlic and horseradish leaves.
Getting read for kraut too: Garlic, salt, pinch water in food processor or by hand slice thin.

I am getting ready for chiro appt. so thinking of what to bring him: maybe it will be cut up fresh veggies and call it quit with my pickle juice brine (from my Boutenko pickles) I have decided to save and use as a dressing with some hemp seed oil. Wow, did that taste great last night over my salad. Nothing added either.
