Okay, I have been on an off again RAW for a year, but the more I go at it my consumption of raw in percentage has gone up. Like last year I was like 40% Raw but not I am about 80%.

So I still consider chicken noodle soup as my comfort food when I get sick and I can't seem to find something raw to replace that. Since I haven't been raw long, I don't have concept of "comfort" foods with Raw.

In about 2 weeks I will be getting two of my wisdom teeth extracted with just shots and topical anathesia. And the thought of it makes me crave for chicken noodle soup already, because I am scared. Never had any type of surgery before. Yeah, I am acting like a baby. Dentist refused to put me to sleep! What an evil human being. When I start slapping him when I feel him yanking out bone out of my head....I just hope he has a good life insurance plan himself. :D

Can someone give me some comfort food ideas. I am doing smoothies right now, which doesn't feel like comforting to me at all.

Why do you feel you need a comfort food? I can't think of any raw foods that are comforting by any means, not even desserts. I find that raw foods don't cover but help you face whatever your dealing with.

Avocado chocolate is my raw comfort food (agave and cacao mixed with a mashed, ripe avocado). OR just agave and cacao mixed together to form a chocolate dip -- for dipping strawberries in. Heaven!

Hey, when I think comfort food I think "rich and creamy"....and I think that, for that, avocados are your best friends!

Skybarr's idea for avocado chocolate sounds AMAZING. For more desserty-stuff, make banana ice cream, or mix up some raw honey/nut butter and sprinkle with chopped dates.

For savory, make thick soups. I love to blend spinach, 1-2 avocados, 1/2 red pepper and 1/2 cucumber. Add in some sea salt and seasonings and its thick and soooo creamy.

Also, try out some various pates and dips. Make a soft walnut taco meat.

OOH, and look what I just found on the internet!!

UNchicken Soup

Blend:
2 c. water
1/2 c. shredded coconut

Blend for 1-2 minutes.

Add
2 c. chopped celery
2 T. Bragg's
1 clove garlic
pepper to taste, if desired.

Grate:
1 medium carrot
1/4 bunch parsley
2 medium size potatoes

Add grated ingredients to blended mixture and add sliced mushrooms, if desired. Enjoy!!

I find that heat can also be part of the "comfort" factor. Take a bowl of the soup and warm it in a dehydrator, if you have one. If not, take a large bowl of warm water and hold your bowl down in the water until your soup is warm. (you may have to replace the water several times.)

Use this time to comfort and pamper yourself. Don't worry about calories or fats--just focus on staying raw and avoiding the temptation of traditional "comfort."

Are you looking for something that's similar to chicken noodle soup? You could try miso soup -- it's got that saltiness to it. It's not really raw, but it's much closer than chicken noodle. :) To me, "comfort" foods are things that I'm really familiar with, so finding something new to substitute might not do it for you. My raw comfort foods would be avocado, raw applesauce, bananas with carob and cinnamon, strawberry-banana smoothies, green smoothies with plenty of fruit, and sprouted buckwheat "oatmeal". But that's just me!

Good luck with the wisdom teeth! I had mine out a couple years ago, and it wasn't too bad. Make sure you have a couple non-leaking ice packs on hand; it's not comforting at all when they drip all over you. :)

When I'm stressed or otherwise feeling a tensy bit sorry for myself, I love having frozen banana icecream --with cacal or carob mixed in.

Okay, it seems like the new comfort foods for being RAW is creamy foods. Like ice cream or puddings?

Would avocado make sweet things taste funny? And does avocado go with juicy fruits like apples, watermelon, or just pulpy fruits like bananas? I don't know what to mix avocados with since I just eat them sliced only.

Thanks for the un-Chicken Raw soup!!! Yep, I have dehydrator to "heat" it up.

When making puddings or ice creams, do you need a special freezing instrument? I don't have anything like that. I suspect my gums will be hurting and I need something cold to eat to soothe them.

Docsharp, well as a kid chicken noodle soup always seemed like the remedy and soothing. Plus something to look forward to getting when sick. Maybe because chicken broth has medicinal purposes, plus it being a psychological thing to do culturally when Americans get sick. I need to learn how to find a new comfort food to make me feel better. I just want to try something different.

hm. try juicing celery, a little garlic, a little onion and maybe a cucumber... add some hemp oil and salt if needed and whatever spices you want... then you can add veggies, zucchini or kelp noodles, etc. soup!

Good luck on your surgery! I had all four of my wisdoms taken out about 4 years ago. It can be scary and it will hurt, but when it's over--that's it! Be sure to clean your mouth, too. My brother's fiancee got hers infected because she wasn't careful about rinsing her mouth.
You probably won't want to eat anything afterwards for a while. I wasn't raw at the time, so I had some SAD frozen treats.

That is understandable. For some reason I think I'm weird I can't find a raw food that is comforting.. Well I love Almond Butter balls, those are good, nothing like soup though.

Cooked always seem to ring a bell as comforting, it's good that people are giving you some good ideas.

I like raw ice cream made from bananas and I put my raw chocolate pecan bar on top of it yummm.
