I recently e-mailed a company called Melissa's (see melissas.com) regarding whether or not their Young Sweet Coconuts are dipped in formaldehyde. This is after reading here that many companies do this as a means of preserving them. Below is their reply.

Dear Andy,

Thank you for e-mailing Melissa's in regards to our Sweet Young Coconut.

Melissa's Sweet Young Coconut are not dipped or rinsed in any solutions. You can place an order for our Sweet Young Coconuts at http://www.melissas.com/catalog/index.cfm?Product_id=2117&Info=NO or contact us directly at (800) 588-0151, our office hours are Monday thru Friday 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST.

Once again thank you for your inquiry and please let us know if we could be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Hello,

Are your young sweet coconuts dipped in formaldehyde? If so, is it possible to buy them undipped?

Thanks,

Andy

Thank you for sharing that! When i do find a young coconut in my local store it is from the company you contacted. Now I don't have to worry about what it has on it!

Well, that's a better deal but still pricey. I don't know if I could eat 6 of them fast enough either.

HAHA, this is funny, because I just got my 36 young coconuts delivered this morning from a local organic delivery place in Los Angeles, but they do deliver nationwide, overnight, but Im sure shipping would cost an arm and a leg. But there so good.

ohh, i had a coconut from that company once when i was visiting my sister. it was delicious, tasted totally different than the ones we usually get which i think are dipped.

the best are the organic ones though. i was able to order them through our coop's produce distributor once but they only had them for a couple of weeks.
