I had two different kinds of "pot barley"? in my cupboard and didn't realize it. One that I used was creamy white and the other was definitely brown. Well they assured me at the two different stores that they were both "pot barley". I still am not sure if the creamy one is perhaps "pearl barley" which I understand doesn't sprout. But after trying to sprout the lighter one for about 4 days now, I know it will not work and besides it smelled very bad and I threw it out today. I am so glad I found the brown variety tucked away in my cupboard. It looks just like the stuff we pulled off the stalks in the fields when we were kids. (Wow, did I actually live in the country at one time?! - you bet, and that is why I love this earth so much - I remember the exquisite beauty of it when I could just suck it up every day of my childhood. I hate the city.) So, I think that I was misled by the store(s) where I bought this creamy colored stuff. Or maybe there are two kinds of "pot barley"? Anyone have anything to add to this? I am so looking forward to Alissa's chili when this stuff sprouts. I managed to make those crackers that are supposed to taste like "Ritz" crackers courtesy of the mattson (mindy) family. They are just great. They took about 13 hours in the dehydrator, if I remember correctly. I will definitely make these again. I have just had a tiny taste of them. Can't wait to have more later today. Have a healthy happy day all you rawbies!:)
