View Full Version : July Exercise Challenge... did you work out today?

I don't see a thread... so I'm starting one. I'm ready, willing and able to get working out again! While I was juice feasting I simply didn't have the energy to work out daily - other than my yoga. So now... I've got myself a rebounder and some free weights (which were not free so why call them that???) - and I'm ready to bring myself into another level of fitness.

Who's in?
Let's post daily what we've done and support each other!!!

I just finished 15 minutes on my rebounder: http://www.qibounding.com/1718014.htm - I have the orange one... and then I did 15 minutes of weights. Specifically targeting my tricepts and my bicepts and my shoulders. Then I did some to target the muscles on my back (at the shoulder blades).

I'm ready for tomorrow!!!

Great thread, I'll work out today as well - I already took a walk with my lovely dog and later I'll do a small bicycle tour. :)

HOORAY FOR YOU ALEESHA.....

I was hoping someone would have started one. I might be buying a rebounder in the near future. I've heard sooooo many good things about them from people who use them.

I have 1/2 a year left and have been thinking about what I want to look like at the end of this year. I'm going to start tracking my progress with strength training again. I'm still in the rebuilding muscle phase after losing so much weight and muscle in that first year of raw.

Today is strength training....
15 min total body strength with medicine ball
stretching exercises
work on chest/arms/glutes/hamstrings/triceps/biceps

Have a great day!

I'm in My great new friend and I have made up this great work out schedule and finally having someone to help with accountablity is great. I took a ballet class with her last semester and it turned out we both were praise dancers--Praise God~~
Now we work out every MWF downtown, and every T,TH we dance
what a great blessing she has become
While doing our morning workout we are able to read a chapter or two of The Holy Bible while we are on two of the machines too.:)
I am very thankful that God has given me the motivation , strength and desire to be healthy!

I'm off for a walk with the dogs, then some rebounding before it gets too hot out (or maybe I'll do the rebounding before I walk the dogs... not sure yet).

in light and love,
Aleesha

THat is so cool that the Lord has blessed you with someone who can help motivate and encourage you to be healthy and someone to work out with. That is also cool that you use your gifts to glorify God! Good for you!:)

Aleesha - I am in too! I bounce back and forth between the two sites so I don't post as often here just cause I have regular workout buddies over there but I like the activity and people on both sites especially cause at the end of the month people's commitments seem to fall off the radar scope. So with that in mind here I am! My goals are posted in my signature!

Today's exercise: 30 minutes of rebounding/abs

Today Iwent to one gym and did a turbo kick boxing hour class. It was a killer and surely after the second class I still don't have the moves down. Tonight I went to another gym and did yoga. I didn't do my normal weight training and cardio so that's all I could get in . I decided I needeed a rest so here I am. Tomorrow back to gym however.

o.k. ~ last night I did 1 hour cycle, 1 hour sculpt and 1 hour Zumba. I didn't have my normal Zumba instructor so I didn't even break a sweat and it felt like a waste of time but I learned a new move to use in my own classes so it was worth it.

I am up now at 5:30 a.m. (still haven't morphed into human form yet) to workout again as we have prayer group tonight and can't make it to the gym. I am hoping to meditate to the sunrise before I start.... not sure what time sunrise is though. :o

For those wondering how I had the energy to exercise 3 hours last night I have two words for you: Green Smoothie (wink, wink Lucy) :D

What I learned is:

I am sooo not coordinated! :p

But hey, it's only my first time trying it......

Everytime I do Turbo Jam my back start to hurt, I think I am not in the right position I just stop using it. I got tired of having back pain... I might try again in a couple months...

Did your back hurt?

I also let someone borrow the tape, they said their back was hurting as well.

1 hour of strength training with bosu and weights

Worked out at the gym today and did a great class that was pretty hard. Did a ton of weight training, core work, pushups, squats, lunges, while balancing on a bosu.

Wow! Great job everyone!

Today I taught a 1 hr. yoga class & kicked it up a bit!

Morn - Yes, I did have a little fun, but still tried hard to do it correctly! Could you share where else you hang out? I'm always looking for interesting sites. Thanks!

Docsharp - No, my back didn't end up hurting at all - I was really trying to concentrate on my form - which is probably why I was off key half the time!

I'm going to try it again tomorrow & see how it goes~

Happy 4th everyone~

that bosu is hard...that's great to do an hour of strength training including the bosu; i tested it out one day for about 5 minutes and was sitting there laughing at myself in the gym because i was so wiggly...thought about buying one in the future though

Doc- I've heard that about the rebounders-not to buy a cheap one

Justine- go head with your bad self (3 hours)

Aleesha-
I wish I could give you some of our rain....we've had so much the past 3 or 4 months that we have flooding in quite a few areas over hear in the midwest

oh hey we've had our share of rain as well. this is the first week of sun we've had all year! so i'm not really complaining. it's just harder to work out when you are in a hot humid house (with 6 large fish tanks to increase the humidity even higher) LOL

did a little Nia tonight but i have a terrible pain in my ribs so i had to stop.will do more tomorrow if it's not too hot here. :)

The bosu can be a challenge to balance on so I know what you mean. We used it like an aerobics step in the beginning then we did a bunch of squats of of it and pushup on it and all of our strength training it it which was a real challenge pumping iron while balancing. The class is called FIT. Not sure I will be rushing back to that class any time soon. I am still so sore 2 days after the workout. IT was good though a real challange!

I think I last posted Wed.'s workout and before that Tues.'s.
Thursday's workout was taken from a thread on here of Cheap Workouts with lots of links. So, from youtube, I did 10 min pilates sculpt, 8 min. arms, 8 min legs and 8 min taebo. I used to have the taebo tapes and loved it. So was glad to find this on the utube.

Missed working out on July 4th. BUT this Sat morning, the 5th, did Turbo Jam Punch Kick & Jam and then 8 min arms again, and found a 5 min arms.

That's 4 workouts this week. So part of my challenge has been met this week. May try to do a little something tomorrow just for grins!!

Also did 26 minutes on stairmaster and 15 on treadmill (walking fast).

Today, I hope to go for a walk or go do some more cardio at the gym.

Not a problem. I just know how sensitive the moderators on this site can be and I don't like to make anyone upset. In all fairness to them they really don't want to promote other raw sites here which I can understand. But I like both sites and enjoy going to both. I hope you like the other site too. Ok here is my day! All I did was about 15 minutes of hola hooping. Bought it last night at meijers when I saw someone hola hooping in the aisle.

I am a bit preoccupied because I am having a party for my daughter on Saturday so I need to get the house together and I am struggling. I slept in late cause I worked until 3:00 a.m. in the morning. IN the afternoon I got the dreaded phonecall that I lost my job today. Nothing I did - it just comes down to dollars and cents and because I am contract they want to go with all inhouse people going forward (at Comcast). So after 5 years I am done. I am a bit bummed and not sure what to do with my life so I have a lot to contemplate. Not to mention I need to financially look at everything which I am dreading. My kids are off school right now for the summer so I will take off the next few months and go from there. I am really bummed cause this was an awesome job! It paid extremely well and I had a lot of flexibility to take care of my kids, etc. Also the economy here in Michigan is extremely bad. I think we have the worst unemployment rate out of everyone in the U.S. so to get a new job won't be the easiest. But if God wants me to work HE will open the door for it. If you think about it I would appreciate the prayers.

I surrendered to SAD chocolate cake this afternoon (out of depression) and a glass of red wine. Hopefully tomorrow I will be more on track with myself.

Just letting you know I'm thinking about you....you said it best "HE will open the door" so celebrate that and try not to stress. Somehow, we have to surrender all to Him like the song says...which can be so hard but He's never let us down and so He is a sure thing in terms of trusting....I'm going to be fasting soon and I will say a prayer for you...you gonna be alright, I be praying that God will strengthen you

I like the Turbo Jam workouts so far - even though I've only done it 4 times - :p

I haven't used the gloves with them yet - I am still trying to get used to the moves - but what's actually cool about them is that.........I WANT to do them! Sometimes I walk around with songs going in my head & I think where did I hear that? Oh yeah, TURBO JAM - too funny!

I don't have a lot of endurance at this point - just getting started. Also did a 15 minute ab workout this evening using my exercise ball. Wanted to use my exercise ball again for these more intense exercises but too sore from yesterday and couldn't. Stuck with working those muscles today but not as intensely. THey needed a little rest. Need to do more stretching probably.

Ok I am back. Sorry I was MIA for a few days. I just recoved from having My daughter's 6th birthday party at our house on Saturday. I would love to count all the cleaning I did for my exercise since I had no time exercise. I had to plan 2 different parties for my daughter. One on the inside and one on the outside due to all the rain. We had to barbeque in the rain and move the party on the inside but for one hour the rain went away so they were able to go out and swim and we did the pinata outside and then moved the party back indoors. It was a little mermaid swim party so it would have been a complete bummer if they wouldn't have been able to swim at all. By nighttime the weather broke and we had some friends over and had a nice fire outside. Sunday I spent most of the day cleaning up after the party and then we took a family drive to a nice boating community. Where one day I would like to move to.

Which brings me back to today. It is weird cause normally I would have to work today - but no job! So I filled my day with more work around the house, juicing, exercising, and now we are off to write thank you notes for the party.

strength training with medcine ball, body strength, free weights and machines (I'll add specifics later if I get a chance)
cardio with treadmill/bike

Yesterday I went into the gym and really kicked butt--it was fun! I did my weight routine after a warm up jog on the treadmill, after all that did 30 minutes on stairmaster, another 20 on elliptical, and capped it all with another sprint on the treadmill. I dont think it was a full mile the second time, but I just wanted the feeling of running. yeah!

Today I may go back and do some cardio after work, or a may just go for a stroll on the waterfront (dodging tourists is calorie-burning).

Yesterday I took a "rest day" - was having some eh hem digestive issues (trying to trace it back to something my dbf & I ate - only thing we can think of - nectarines)......my rumbling insides would not have made it through the abs routine I was going to do from Turbo Jam -

Today I taught a one on one - 1 hour yoga class - it was fun & we did whatever we felt like.

My system is still not 100% better yet.....off to take some more probiotics....

I say don't take a risk on that knee...

Maybe you could focus on ab work that didn't engage your knee or strength training moves that could be done while sitting (lots of upper body stuff)...

I've never had the detox horror stories I read about on here but just eating something -even cooked vegan - will cause my body to have such a strong reaction ...always wondered how some people eat what they eat and not get bloated, constipated, or anything...

yesterday I made myself go to the gym earlier and do some cardio--fewer people before the "rush hour".

I did:
20 minutes on the treadmill, going between speed walking and sprinting.
20 minutes on elliptical course.
30 minutes on stairmaster (meant to do 10 but got carried away with one of revvell's podcasts).

Just didnt feel like lifting though, so I'll go back tonight and do that part and a little cardio.

Its been over 2 months now, and although I can see more definition in my arms, and feel a little more muscle in my legs, Im not seeing as much of a difference as I had hoped for at this point. Feeling a bit discouraged today.

I know "throw away the scale", right? But, I still cant fit into that truer-measure of fitness, my own pair of "skinny jeans". Perhaps if I did higher raw I could get there, but I just cant seem to reach that goal either.

1 hour and 5 minutes -

30 minutes stairmaster
5 minutes of abs
30 minutes of swimming 50 laps

Heading out to gym tonight, doing weights and some form of cardio. I can count on about 2 hour workout.

Last night "cooked" in a Turko Kickboxing class at 24 hour fitness then weight training. The Turbo class had problems with air, and I sweated like I just came out of a shower dripping wet. This class is NON stop 60 minutes. This cute instructor has no mercy for breaks, but I love it that way. I bet I am the oldest of the bunch, but hey it feels so good to be in shape that I can keep up like all ages.
I love Turbo, the music and the moves. The faster the better and this is what this instructor offers.

Keep working out regardless of the form.

Morn,
OMG--the stairmaster. That is so so hard especially with the wrong shoes like I learned the hard way through injury. Now nursing with chiro help back out of wack, hips, pelvis, knee and you may wonder how I can still workout like a mad woman. My workouts don't aggrevate these injuries and the chiro said it is okay and showed me some additional stretches as a must do like runner's stretch.

Wow sorry to hear that! It is one of the few machines that can get me up to a sweat pretty quick that is why I do it. I can do the eliptical, treadmill, etc. and not get up a sweat but within 20-30 minutes on the stairmaster I am pretty sweaty so even though it is extremely boring I do it. I would rather do an aerobics class though!

Yesterday was a long day...didn't start my strength training until about 11 p.m. last night. My strength training very challenging last night (guess from all the work I did up until walking into that gym)...I ended up knocking off about 4 sets of exercises. I ended up doing way more cardio than I planned on (about 1 1/2 hours) ...so the cardio with the hour of strength training has me exhausted now and just now walking in the door at 1:30 a.m.

Hey All,

Today is my day off, but I started swimming everyday for 1 hour this week (Monday). It's so relaxing and fun because despite my fear of sharks (I swear I hear the Jaws theme everytime I get near the ocean  ) I LOVE the water!

Next week I'm going to try still swimming an hour 3-4 days a week and the other days half hour swim and half hour walk on the treadmill. I'm trying to stay in the weight-loss zone for now, so I won't be doing my favorite eliptical machines as they put my heartrate out of the zone (though I love to sweat... <sigh> I'll save it for when I'm maintaining my goal weight or training for something specific)
