hi!
I am a student unable to shell out the $400 for a vita mix blender but still hoping to be able to make the recipes in Alissa's book without having to add tons of water to get it to churn (therby turning all final products into MUSH!)
I am looking for a cheap (ish) but POWERFUL food processor- any reccomendations? i am hoping to buy one asap so i can jump back into raw!!:)
thanks!!!

a food processor is very different from a vita-mix. I have a vita-mix which is a blender. for food processors i just buy one from target or something and it works fine. i am also a student and i was say save up for the vita-mix because it is so worth it! i've been going through about 2 blenders a year with the green smoothies etc i end up running out the motor so the vita-mix really ends up paying for itself in the end.

I just bought a Cuisinart at Costco yesterday... 11 cup capacity, came with a bunch of attachements, and was on sale for $129.99. That might be a little too big if it's only for you, but it's definitly a good deal.

Try Craig's list. you might be able to find a used one. I just got a cuisinart that retails for $100 for $50. Couple years old but never used. Also got a $200 dehydrator for $100... only used a few times.

I got my cuisinart at Costco for 100.00 but that was 1 1/2 years ago and it's the BEST. When I first started out I watched Alissa's DVD very carefully and found the food processor she had on her DVD and it was a 30 (maybe now 40.00) food processor, that I got from Walmart. She also didn't use a vitamix, it to was an inexpensive blender and in her book she says that it wasn't until quite a ways into being raw (it seems like it was years) that she got some of the nicer equipment. So go and get yourself a 30-40 food processor and blender and enjoy them until you can get what you want. Good Luck.
