Hi all!
I purchased some raw oats from Alissa's web site in hopes of using them to create some sort of dehydrated food bars. I figured I would need to use some type of fruit & nuts to do so. Does anyone have any recipes for such food bars? I am going camping and thought this would be a handy food item to have on the hiking trail.
Thank you so much in advance!
Denise
Banana Cookie Bar
2 cups raw oats
2 cups raisins
1 cup nuts (walnuts or pecans)
1/2 c ground flax seeds
2 very ripe bananas
a touch of cinnamon and salt if you want
about 3 T agave nectar
Blend everything in food processor. Form dough into square loaf and slice loaf into bars. Dehydrate overnight if you can wait that long to eat them.

Can I assume that the oats are steel cut? If so do they soften up some while dehydrating?
When you say overnight, is that 6 to 8 hours

The oats I got off Alissa's web site are oat flakes, not steel cut.

I'm curious as to how they get raw oats to be flakes. As far as I know to get the oat to a flake which is similar in shape to a grain of rice you have to steam it then roll and the heat of the steam they use would violate the spirit of raw

This statement is from Alissa's web site : "These oats are truly raw oats. They are freshly ground from whole oats in small batches".
Yes I have made the banana cookie bar recipe many times. It came from mawintheraw's blog. My 5 yr old loves them. She has some great recipes here

First, I want to say that I luvvvvvv this site and all of the hard work that Alissa has put into this site and her store.. it is a true gift to us all. But, I am a girl on a budget and figure most of you are too, so wanted to let you all know you can get the truly raw oats from Gold Mine Natural foods........ http://www.goldminenaturalfood.com/default.aspx for way cheaper than on Alissa's site. I *think* this is the same place that Alissa gets hers from I have spoken with the company and they assure me that their oats are cold rolled and are truly raw. If you soak them in water or nut milk they do get soft and taste very good with agave/honey and raisins. They do not form the thick gel type consistency that cooked oats do.
Hope this helps my fellow sisters trying to stretch their raw food budgets!
p.s. they have cheap really raw carob too!
