I dont have a dehydrator or money i can spend on one, but i would like to make some things like breads, crackers, and just be able to warm some of the dishes i see posted in this section.
Can i use my oven just like a dehydrator if i monitor the temp?
Also, since i dont have a dehyrator, i dont have the screens and such so can i just use a baking sheet? like a cookie sheet?

I am in a similar situation. I use my oven at a very very low temp, around 42 C.
And I use baking sheets lined with baking paper.
I am going to get some of those teflex sheets, because they are pretty cheap and would work a lot easier than the baking paper to line the baking trays.

If you do a search on this forum with the words "dehydrator oven" you'll find many who have asked ~ and received responses ~ to just that question.
Personally, I wouldn't use the teflex sheets in an oven.

I did this in the beginning, I bought an oven Themometer(sp?) and it worked well but I got tired of checking on it so finally purchased a dehydrator but it works...

My oven is a fan oven. Works exactly the same as a dehydrator. I do want a dehydrator, then I don't have to take my stuff out when my partner wants SAD food. But, barely have enough money for food right now, so I will have to wait.

Ok thanks girls! I assumed you could do this, but just wanted to make sure.
does it cut the time down alot?
should i do it with the door open a bit when i have it on the lowest temp?

Well I can't say it cut time because I had to keep monitoring it because the temp goes up and down because the stove is constantly trying to keep the right temp. I would leave it cracked.
