I recently bought and used an organic Shea Butter shampoo from Whole Foods and it made my dull, oily hair shiny, soft and completely clean. I want to buy Shea Butter to use as a pomade to style with, but I'm not sure if it would work. Any experiences?

depends on the quality and purity of the product and the environmental temp plus your own body temp

Pure shea butter is a smooth solid at room temp.

Rubs easily between hands and provides non greasy moisture to skin, scalp and hair

in the winter I use pure food grade cocnut oil. Another solid at room temp. A bit oilier but it acts like a stiff styling gel w/ misture on my hair when I'm out a lot in the cold and wind

I mix shea and olive oil for spring and summer months.

I love it!!!

Cool, I'll have to try coconut oil. I want to replace my Sebastian Molding Mud.

I use shea during the winter months. Just a wee bit on the ends and then smoothed over my hair. My hair is about shoulder length, layered and wavy.

Shea only for the winter. I guess I'll use my Mud until winter if I don't get coconut oil.

Various oils and butters, especially coconut, olive, shea, etc., can be great if your hair is on the dry, naturally wavy-to-curly side! But if you have oily, straight hair, not a good idea. In that case you're better off with apple cider vinegar, baking soda rinses, etc.
Don't know about styling aids for straight hair, as my hair is naturally-curly. What I do once a week or two is to apply my own shea butter-coconut oil concoction to my hair as an intense pre-shampoo conditioner, after spritzing it with some water, scrunching it through the hair and leaving it in for a day or so. Has the added benefit of reviving curls!

I don't. I use it as conditioner. I put it in, let it soak for a few minutes, then wash it out.

that's my hair right there! http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q94/SHOE_tutorials/current%20emo/lovechan.gif i guess i'll find some other alternatives to style my hair with or just wait for my hair to behave itself.

for now, coconut oil is very good as a moisturizer. the smell is so heavenly! http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q94/SHOE_tutorials/current%20emo/thlove.gif
