We have three huge strawberry patches in our yard.
My hubby and I go out and just pick and eat, whenever we feel like it. Our dinner was as many strawberries as we chose to eat.
Fresh, red, ripe, warm from the sun, juicy delicious, succulent strawberries, are the best food on the planet.
I had a strawberry at a farmer's market the other day, I couldn't believe it was the same fruit.
It was red on the oustide, but white and hard on the inside. Way too tart, and not sweet at all.
Our strawberries are deep red throughout, and sweet, and absolutely the best in the world.
When we take them to friend's homes, they always run up to us, and say, "Are these from YOUR garden? Oh THANK YOU -- THANK YOU."
Strawberries are very easy to grow, and produce all summer long.
So, if you truly want the food of the gods, forget about cacao nibs, and eat strawberries, fresh from the garden, organic, ripe, raw, and grown with lots and lots of love.

There's a lot of that orgasmic word going around. I feel that I may have found everything I could ever want in a forum.
And yes, strawberries are awesome! I'm going to make a fresh batch of strawberry jam tomorrow morning.

LMAO Steve
RP, Oh I'm so jealous. I've often talked to hubby about starting a strawberry patch, but he's not really interested. We do have blackberries, grapes, pears, apples and peaches (along with the veggies), and he DOES like strawberries, he just claims there is no more room. I beg to differ and I WILL have my strawberry patch next year!!
By the way, with hubby reading over my shoulder-are your raspberries red or black?

Punky,
Does this help at all? http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/container-garden.htm#start
I don't know if you live in an apartment or what yet, when I lived in a 1-bedroom apartment we got 3 earth boxes and just ran them down the stairs. Pretty sure we have pics of them. Had tomatoes, strawberries, cukes, and more. http://www.earthbox.com/
Now we are growing with hydroponics and containers as we have lots of deck and pool yet, not much earth in the back yard.

Red raspberries, delicious, firm velvety and WOW, is all I can say, We now have almost 30 feet of red raspberries along our backyard fence.
We also have a huge (not on our property) blackberry patch, that covers the entire hillside by our home and up the driveway, about 1/2 mile of it.
So, EVERYONE come on over and pick some, they rot on the vine, as we simply don't have the time to pick them all.
Our neighbor says we have to hire migrant farm workers to pick our gardens.
We live on 1/4 acre, and it used to take my gardeners 2 hours to mow the lawn, then Dragggon moved in 3 years ago, I've let the gardeners go, and we have 9 huge gardens, it takes him about 1/2 hour to mow the lawn, we have so little of it, the whole place is a garden, he makes raised beds with huge blue stone boulders, then fills the beds with compost from nearyby farms, (all organic) NOT veganic, but we are okay with that.
AND, although his day job is my manager (I just got an agent, so he doesn't have to do that anymore) and he works in my office, he also takes care of the gardens. That is HIS job, although I do sometimes go out and weed when I want to stretch or get out of the studio.
I always think it is so ironic, I have 2 gardeners for 15 years, with no veggie gardens, when I put in veggie and fruit gardens, I let my gardeners go. What was I thinking? LOL

Thanks Revvell for the links for container gardening.
I do live in a house but don't have a lot of gardening space left.

RP-My hubby would be a full-time gardener/farmer if he could! I understand about the grass thing. We once asked a local kid how much he would charge to mow the lawn and he gave us this outrageous rate because he had to "cut all around your gardens and trees". He could have finished in 45 minutes at the most (on a riding mower) and wanted $75!
Mmmmmm I'm still craving strawberries! Hubby is on a mission after work to visit 2 produce places and see if he can find some really good ones.

YEAH the work part,
I used to employ two gardeners when I only had a regular yard, with some trees and some flowers, because I like a more formal appearance to my yard. So it was worth it to me.
NOW, we have NO gardeners and we have 9 veggie gardens not including our fruit trees and flower gardens, etc.
Dragggon works in our yard from noon to 4PM at least every day, plus from 10 am to noon he works in our office, then at 4PM he comes inside and works a few more hours in our office. He does this 7 days a week. The ONLY time off he gets is when we do shows or fairs.
And when I have a project like right now, that has a deadline, I'm not out there helping him, but on average I'm out in our gardens about 8 to 10 hours a week, every week.
But it is fun work, and beautiful work, and I get to play in the dirt, and get wet and have the sun on me, oh boy!!! Wheeee!
And Dragggon seems so happy when he's covered in dirt, then he gets to jump in the lake and play with our dog Draggon.
