what do you consider you STAPLES besides fruit and veggies?
what recipes do you find yourself making over and over again?

Still trying to figure this out....

hmmm , olive oil guess , I don't eat nuts (maybe once a month) ...the other one might be flax (if you consider 2x a week a staple?).....salads DEFINITLEY!

Almonds, Thai coconut, olives - I don't eat them everyday, but I do like having them on hand.

There are so many wonderful recipes out there that I'm trying a variety, but I guess gazpacho (different variations), tomato soup, pear compote, zucchini soup and fudge are some I've made more than once. Oh and mango lassi.

Not including fruit and veges I'd have to say fudge balls would be one of my staples. You just never know when that sweet craving may hit.

I also make up Alissa's marinara sauce quite often. I use it either on spiralized veges or I layer sliced veges with a nut cheese and then top it with the marinara sauce (sort of like lasagne). As I'm the only one eating raw in my house, the sauce lasts me about 4 serves.

The only other staple I have at the moment is a salad of some description that I've made up at the beginning of the week that I know will last for several days. (For those times I really couldn't be bothered making something fresh). I like the KFC coleslaw recipe on this site (but then again coleslaw has always been a favourite of mine), Alissa's waldorf salad or I make a salad of corn, deseeded tomato, and zucchini and then just add spinach/rocket/avocado when I do serve it.

Sometimes I also have a nut cheese/pate dip or something in the fridge as well as I find they are so versatile (serve in a nori roll/ lettuce leaf, as a dip, in a scooped out zucchini etc).

wow thats a bit of stuff I have as staples and on top of fruit and veges no wonder my fridge is always full of food.

other than fruit and veggies, main staples I always "have" to keep on hand are:

almond butter
oat groats (to make my raw oatmeal which I eat almost daily)
dates and/or raisins

Staples in my cupboard and fridge:

---> I wouldn't have known where to start without *Alissa's book*. I keep on hand just about everything that she lists as staple in her book!

Plus -
agave nectar
Herbamare
Nama Shoyu instead of Bragg's

Staple foods that I make and always try to have available:

granola
crackers
bread (onion, pizza, or Alissa's burger bun recipe made into bread)

Well, I may be bringing down the wrath of the Feelings Police, but, I suggest that you search for this on this forum. The reason I say this is because there have been some really great threads where people shared their favorite recipes (especially from Alissa's book - but also others) and I'd hate for you to miss all those suggesitons, too.

I like that you say you're "still trying to figure this out", Animlover. Too many people give up before they succeed in being 100% and reaping the amazing benefits that are available.

But, I tend to be a pack rat and have food issues, so I think I NEED a lot of food around, just in case there is a famine of any sort. Probably why I weigh over 200 pounds. LOL

Hmmm...staple foods. Well, I'm staying pretty basic with this lifestyle, so here's my short list:

Seaweeds (3 types usually)
seeds for sprouting (6-8 types, like alfalfa, fenugreek, mung, adzuki, radish, cabbage)
kale, spinach, collards - some dark leafy green always in the fridge
bananas (can do without almost every fruit but MUST have this one all the time!)
nuts (in the freezer - almonds, walnuts, peanuts - available when needed, not often!)
wheatgrass (in some stage of the process, either soaking, sprouting, or in trays)
carrots, celery, apples for variety daily
flaxseeds

That's about it.

I do buy seasonal fruits, and different veggies weekly, but if the next hurricane hits, and I have just that stuff, I'm eating high on the hog, so to speak.

That really isn't a good metaphor for this message board, is it?

Ha Ha Ha!!! ;-)

At the moment my favorite prepared food is not really a recipie but flows and changes with how I feel.

Start with about 4 ripe tomatoes blenderized with some cilantro leaves then add minced sweet onion and sweet banana pepper. Serve as a soup.

If I want something more substantial I might add some avocado chunks.

Or I might only blenderize 2 of the tomatoes and chop the other 2 and add other chopped veggies like: celery, mushrooms, minced carrots, and green onions, then put this over spiralized or shredded yellow squash.

Tonight I made a blenderized soup with 1 large cucumber, a small handful of hazel nuts (maybe 6 or 7), 9 or 10 hand sized kale leaves, and a couple of big handfuls of spinach leaves. Mmmmmm it was sooooo good. Only made about 20 oz. Typing this is making me hungry again maybe I'll go make some more.
