I am very eager to start adding more raw foods in to my diet but it seems like all the recipes I come across needs a food processor. I dont even have a conventional blender. All I have is a submersion hand blender and it doesn't blend raw vegi's very well.

Does anyone have any recipes for dishes that DO NOT use a food processor?

I know you said dishes- do you do smoothies/green smoothies, sorbets, icecream?
someone in another post mentioned banana mash with almonds sprinkled on top, you could sprinkle sesame or sunflower seeds too.
pudding made with avocado, chocolate powder
dressings, nut cheese, cookies or crackers(raw, no dehydrator), to start out dehydrating if interested, use oven on the lowest setting with door ajar
salad (veggie or fruit), lasagna with zucchini strips and marinara or alfredo sauce made with your immersion blender from seeds/nuts, sushi, collard, cabbage, lettuce wraps (no food processor needed). there are many recipes that just use a knife and your skill. Do a search on the site for no equipment recipes and there are many books that addresses this question as well. Good luck and have fun on your journey to exploring this lifestyle. It's very rewarding.:D

I didn't have a food processor for a long time, once I got one, it opened up a whole new world to me. I think the term "processor" put me off  because the term is also used in "processed foods" - something we are trying to avoid. I think it might be better to call it a chopper.

If you can, get your hands on one, they cost $30-40. Or find one at a garage sale or a thrift store.

To add on to what cherries said- A magic bullet is okay and fairly inexpensive right now. You can online order it or buy it at the store.

This is a yummy, easy meal!

Lazy Woman's Sushi:

1 Cucumber
1 Sheet of Nori
1 Avocado
Nama Shoyu, Soy Sauce or Tamari
Black Sesame Seeds

Slice cucumber into rounds and put the rounds on a plate. Break sheet of nori into pieces (same amount as rounds of cucumber). Put nori pieces on top of cucumber slices. Cut avocado into pieces and place avo pieces on top of nori. Sprinkle with nama shoyu, soy sauce or tamari. Then sprinkle with black sesame seeds.

Enjoy!

Thanks, I will eventually get a food processor. I just dont have any money to spare right now. I have started saving for one though. I want to splurge and go for a good one. If I happen to see one at a thrift I will pick it up but I never see them there (I own a vintage clothing store and go thrift store shopping to at least 10+ thrift stores a week)

I already make smoothies every morning. (and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them)

Any more recpies would be much appreciated.

i like to make nori rolls, too =0) you can you avos/gauc, toms, sprouts, carrots, shredded beets, corn..the list goes on =0) you can also use collard greens instead of nori...
i also really like to make a simple salad of toms, evoo, fresh basil, salt & pepper...it's really refreshing on hot days;)

yeah, salads are the obvious option. I dont really feel like eating salads for every day for every meal though. I'll give nori rolls a shot though. I'm all about sushi. Lately I've been making a ton of fresh spring rolls which are amazingly delish.

You have a Knife, a hand Grater and you said you had a Stick Hand Held Blender........There is a Lot you can do with those items. You can hand Chop with the Knife, You can Grate, slice and shredd with the Grater and you can make Smoothies with the Blender or you can go to Target and get you a $20-Blender for NOW.

If you go to Thrift Stores that often, they should know you or I would make sure someone that works there knows and Remembers me, then I would tell them things I am looking for and have them call me or put them aside for me. Have a RAW Day.......

I'm very happy with my inexpensive HB food processor:

I know that's not what you asked, but I thought SOMEBODY might benefit from a "Best Buy" recommendation.

Wow, thats cheap! I was preparing myself to pay $250ish for a good one.
So it works really well? All the reviews are 5 stars. Gosh I'm excited now. I think I'm going to go for it.

I think it works great. Only thing you should realize is that 6 cups isn't huge. If food processors are small, medium, and large, I guess this would be a medium. But it was large enough to make the "Eggplant Parmesan" recipe in Alissa's book, which I did just yesterday. For that one recipe I made "breading", "cheese", and "marinara sauce", each using the food processor. The breading is basically salted pine nut butter. It came out like a nut butter. The cheese was pretty thick too, and in larger quantity. The maranara sauce came out great -- a little watery but maybe I used too many fresh tomatoes. Anyway, the HB food processor worked like a champ. I was surprised at the great performance on the thick mixtures.

I am mainly looking for "main dish" types of recipes. I can mix fruits with no problem with my hand blender. Its the vegis that get me. I would also love to have dishes I could make while visiting my family members who don't have a food processor.

Beware! All of Trader Joe's "RAW" nuts, seeds, nut butters are NOT raw. They pasteurize them and still call them raw and have done so for years!

It isnt needed, isnt an essential..

I made EVERYTHING without one for a year..and rarely use mine now apart from in the winter when I make bulk batches of sauerkraut.

Use your hands, knive, grater or blender..works a charm.. if not just use coffee grinder for nuts and seeds. I prefer back to basics...pestle and mortar or just my knife

Not had any problems making recipes without :o

Hey... I like the Nori roll idea... I am so going to get those this week.

I just wanted to say that if you have a regional freecycle group you can get stuff free!!!

I got my dehydrator and processor on my local freecycle!!

Google it and check it out!!! Lots of people have all kinds of stuff just laying around and love to send it off to a new home... I know there are groups online all over the world!!! It ROCKS!!!

Good luck and many blessings....

I was hand chopping vegis yesterday with my very sharp knife and I chopped the top of my thumb off. :/
At this point I don't know if its going to re-attach or fall off. A food processor seems a lot more attractive now, and worth some cash.

That is new to me too. I have always bought my nuts from TJ's because they are such a good deal. Dried fruits too.

Wow! Are you alright??? Did you go to the Dr's??? Need stitches????

I'm praying it'll re-attach for you! Keep it clean, k? & get someone else to do the choppin'!

And get a food processor QUICK, girl!!!

(I can totally sympathise, I stabbed myself almost an inch deep in my hand awhile back, & still get the willies sometimes when I hold that particular knife!)

Thanks Anastazia. Its healing pretty well. A little over half of it has reattached. I will only loose a little sliver around the edges.
I ended up finding a kitchen aid "food chopper" at a thrift store so I've been using that lately. Its basically like a food processor just not as powerful.
