Hello all! I've been looking for some good forums and you guys seem like a good bunch ^.^ I am going to be starting a 40 day water fast in about a week or so. I did a three day water fast but stopped because I have long classes right now and it's near the end of term. I figured it would be best to start during my 5 day break I can get used to it in a calm non-stressfull environment. I have told my family and friends what I am going to be doing as well, just in case I need their help.
I'm going to try to eat just fruits and veggies before my fast as well. My main goal is to rebuild my body and mind not to lose weight. I realise I will lose some weight though, so I was wondering what the average weightloss in a waterfast is and how much of it is muscle and how long it takes to gain some of it back after the fast on a raw diet. Thanks. ^.^

IMO, that is way too long of a water fast to do unsupervised. I have read that anything over 3 days (I've also read 7 days) should be monitored by an experienced faster. Water fasting is way more intense than juice feasting.

there is no way for your body to rebuild on just water.

look into juice feasting. you need to drink green juices.

would it be okay to alternate between juice and water then or will that much things up? (thanks for the advice btw)

why are you so interested in drinking only water? fasting in general won't rebuild because you aren't getting enough calories to meet your body's daily needs nevermind rebuilding. i'm on a juice feast right now (day 21) and consistently building muscle... on water for the amount of time your body will deteriorate and start using your muscles and eventually your organs... and your brain... so definitely no rebuilding of the mind there. so IMO it's REALLY not a good idea and also not helping you to meet the goals you stated. you can certainly also drink water (i drink about 1/2 gallon to a gallon a day aside from my juices) but if you're talking about drinking a juice every few days or something... i don't know...

Livilla,

Ditto to BeckX. Water fasting is usually only for 2-3 days, because that is when most of the siginificant physical changes occur in the body on this type of fast..even then it's usually done as an extreme form of detox...not for rebuilding. If you are not trying to rid yourself of disease or illness, consider juice fasting/feasting. You will rebuild both mind and body in the literal sense, and detox at the same time.

Many times you will hear about people water fasting for long periods of time-usually for spiritual purposes (like Woody Harrelson). In most cases, these people have been eating raw (usually exclusively) for years prior to fasting Their bodies are quite clean & efficient and they require less nutrients to sustain themselves. Even then, long fasts are done under supervision.

i have no opinion on how long you can water fast. but... i do have some suggestions for you:

day 1 in Fruit for breakfast smoothie for lunch and juice for dinner
day 2 in juice for all three meals
day 3 only water. continue for as long as desired.
day 1 out - juice for all three meals
day 2 out same
day 3 out juice for breakfast smoothie for lunch and dinner
day 4 out juice for breakfast, smoothie for lunch and fruit for dinner
day 5 out fruit for all three meals
day 6 begin to return to a balanced diet including sprouts and fermented foods.

jeremy suggests that water fasting is the quickest way to cleanse and purify the system. be sure to do a kidney cleanse BEFORE starting a water fast. consume as much water as possible (within reason of course) to gain the greatest benefits.

here's an article which may assist you:

i've done a 14 day water fast before with no supervision. although it's not for rebuilding, it does accelerate cleaning your body out so that when you do eat again and healthy, rebuilding is much faster.

green juices would have a larger impact on a cleaner body. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q94/SHOE_tutorials/current%20emo/lovechan.gif

it's up to you. after juicing for a while and with raw and if you feel you are just not there (health-wise), try water fasting.

3 days is the safest bet. 14 days is safe as well without supervision but not guaranteed. beyond 14 days will warrant supervision.

check out some literature on water fasting at soilandhealth.com if you haven't already.

also, fasting and eating for health by dr. joel fuhrman.

I started my water fast on Wednesday. I think I might fast for a week. I am not certain beacuse I was moved by God to do my fast.

Good luck on fasting!

Thank you, Aleesha. I'll give the SWF a rest for the 3-4 days I'm on water. I do hope that 3-4 days will be enough for a good detox.

consider a water enema in place of the SWF.
