Want to get some information on proper technique so I can attach it to a brush to give my sister for her birthday. I haven't printed out what I follow. And also would like to see if my way is anywhere near what others are doing. I've just started doing it again and I want to make sure it's right so I don't give her some misinformation.
Thanks all!

i've read you are supposed to spend 5 minutes doing it. i don't spend that long.
start on the bottom of the feet... top of the feet, up the calves, thighs and buttocks. then up your back to your heart, up your belly to your heart.
now the palms of your hands, tops of your hands, up your arms (all sides), shoulders. now your chest in downward strokes and your shoulder blades.
all strokes are towards your heart.

I dry brush several ways depending on the time I have. For both, I follow the sequence Aleesha mentioned above. For a thorough DB, I do small, circular motions, several passes each section. That takes me about 15 minutes.
When I don't have a lot of time, I use brush strokes. Again, I do several passes each section, and that takes me about 5 - 7 minutes.

Thanks!! I also forgot that I had a Marilu Henner book, and she advocates the skin brushing.
Benefits: aids in digestive process, stimulates lymph glands, tightens skin and helps reduce cellulite. "Also helps your body along during a healing crisis."
I knew I loved the way it felt and I am doing it exactly like ya'll!
Thanks again!
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q94/SHOE_tutorials/current%20emo/thlaugh.gif i just make sure i at least do it for as long and as thoroughly as i can. i'll usually brush up.
i think i read that misslinda, the fasting queen, skin brushes for about 15 mins. or more.

Do you do this once everyday before you get in the shower?

I do this before my morning shower. I also read where Marilu said she brushes before she exercises so that toxins can be released more easily thru the skin via sweating.

 I could never spend 15 minutes....
You do not need to take this long.
I have read that you should pick a number of strokes in multiples of 3 but I do not know why. I do 9.
I stroke 9 time in all of the areas mentioned.
When I have the arms done I do upwards on my underarm with my arm raised and then inwards underarms towards the heart with the arm still raised and then in a simi circle under the breast and then inwards over the breast.
I then do downwards on my neck.
It does not even take 5 minutes.
One other thing that I do is that while I am doing my lower leg I balance on the other leg and I am hoping that doing this every day will help to maintain my ballance as I get older. I would forget this exercise otherwise but now it is routine.

lmao. that's what i wrote to misslinda! http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q94/SHOE_tutorials/current%20emo/thlaugh.gif
i do try to skin brush as thoroughly as i can though. somehow i feel better, and i'm pretty sure it's not a placebo effect. because i would read often that just going raw is good, but damn... i really felt the bloating, when i didn't combine my food right. http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q94/SHOE_tutorials/current%20emo/confused.gif

Pumpkin: What colon cleanse are you doing? I am on day 2 of the Blessed Herbs brand---I know nothing about this at all!
Also, why does the brush have to be dry? I've been doing mine in the shower, is that not as effective?

You say that I need a natural bristle brush--but I'm a vegan and really don't want to use boar or horse hair brushes, that thought just grosses me out. I don't want to use natural sponge, either. Is there another kind of natural bristle? I'm using a softer plastic bristle at the moment but its still pretty scratchy on my skin.

most natural bristle brushes for skin are plant fiber. I purchased mine at whole foods and it is plant fiber.

Oh, goodie! That makes me happy. Do you know anything about if its still effective whilst I do it in the shower?

No, it needs to be on dry skin.

Okay, good to know. Do you know why or the theory behind that or do you have a link to any articles about why it needs to be dry? I'm a very curious person and I just love to know about the human body!

I think it's just so that all the dry dead cells fall off...they probably wouldn't if they were wet b/c the water would just make your body slippery.
Anyone else think it hurts like heck? It really hurts me...it's like I'm giving myself a rug burn...and yes, I got a natural skin brush at my food co-op. OUCH!!

The brushes vary a lot so maybe you need to start with a softer one and build up to the hard one. That is what I did and find the hard one great now.

Hmmm...I have a coconut bristle "foot" brush that I use all over my body - would that be too coarse for "dry" brushing? I do come out of shower all red, but the bumps on the back of my legs and rump have diminished...sent to VA in July, and with the humidity down here my skin got wonky! (plus, I was not used to wearing my Navy uniforms on a DAILY basis) so I had to do something!
